Reaction To Clindamycin

I got this for tooth infection and slight body rash and started on Friday night as eagar for relief. I took 3 pills yesterday as what I am to take. Getting ready for breakfast today and my first dose this morning I coughed and felt like a piece of skin not mucus or any liquid was coming out from the back of my throat. I tried to hack up but couldn't or not wipe out of mouth so I swallowed back up. Anyone else have this feeling and what can I do about. I am to take pills for 10 days.

I am allergic to penicillin and normally get hives all over. Now, I'm starting to hives after taking clindamycin. Do they have some of the same ingredients?

I AM ALLERGIC TO BOTH PCN & CLEOCIN/CLINDAMYCIN.
BOTH RASH AND SWELLING.

I too have a very bad rash on hands,neck,face,and entire back from 5 days of clindamycin.
My doctor told me not to take the antibiotic anymore,and take benedryl every 4 to 6 hours.
So far the benedryl isn't helping. I feel like i'm being pinpricked all over my body :(

Yeah, I have a acne type rash all over my face and above my breasts!!! i am still taking it, because the tooth/gum infection is way worse!! Eeekk!! This stuff sucks

i had a bad tooth/gum infection the first day i took this meds and i could feel the difference with in the first hour, i have been take this meds for one week and no rash so far. but i am worried about any later side effects. i hope all you guys get well soon.

I took 2 capsules as prescribed by my dentist for a tooth infection and was supposed to take 2 tablets three times day until gone. I took 2 tablets and my face broke out in an angry rash. Needless to say I stopped immediatly my internal medicine doctor prescribed prednisone low dose 20mg three tablets for three days and then 2 tablets for three days and then 1 tablet for three days. I start the two tablets tomorrow. My nose has now started to peel.? The tooth problem doesn't seem to be healing.

My twelve year old has been on an IV drip of Clindamycin for a bone infection. Three weeks into his treatment he developed severe hives all over his body. Benadryl does nothing! Prednisone for two day has not improved it either. Any suggestions?

OK I joined the group today. Ive been on this stuff (300 mg)3 per day. Yep, hives. Any idea how long I can expect this them to last? I topok my final Clindamycin about 10 hours ago.

I too have a rash all over my chest and face following a dental procedure. I have to take Clindamycin prior to apts because of a heart defect. It has been over a week. I also have tested postive for an allergy to metals so I had certain material replaced in my mouth now I am not sure what is causing the rash. Did your rash eventually go away? Have you been tested for an allergy to dental materials?

I am not sure if I am covered in spots on my face and chest because of the Clindamycin I took before my dental apt. or if it is something they put in my mouth. Does anyone know if a rash can still be on your face from clindamycin 1 week after taking it? Can it possibly still be effecting me?

Have you been tested for an allergy to dental materials? I had the same problem and found out it was not the clidamycin but was the mercury and the crown in my mouth. I had blood tests run through Clifford Consulting that proved positive to allergies to dental materials.

Took clindamycen for 7 days starting Oct 16 and on the 7th day almost died. Severe allergic reaction and am still off work. Severe complications as a result of the reaction. Will look into possible dental allergies since the presc was originally for a supposed dental infection.

I was prescribed Clindamycin to prevent a sinus infection after having a wisdom tooth removed. 3 days after I stopped taking the drug I developed a rash over about 80% of my body. The worst of that went away after about 2 days. Then 5 days after I stopped taking the drug I developed nausea, abdominal cramping, and colitis like symptoms. I'm now in my second day of that. I am not having a fun time.

Mary Sue. I had the same reaction and it was very severe. Still not completely over it more than week later. I stopped taking the drug on day two. I thought I had developed food poisoning until I read about the drug and found out this was a side effect. Don't take any antacids or things like Pepto as that can make you sicker. My dentist put me on it, but my doctor is now monitoring me. I have other drug allergies and my doc was concerned that this drug was prescribed in the first place.

Advice for people taking the antibiotic, the first time I took it I had the terrible lower side effects but I learned some ways to make that part more manageable.

Make SURE you drink a LOT of water with the pills when you take them, and do NOT lie down till 30 minutes after you take the medication, I have done this the second time when they gave me this antibiotic and I have had NO Diarrhea at all!

Just some gas pain and other annoying symptoms like the heart burn, chest pain and weird throat and dizziness.

BUT no horrible Diarrhea which I am relieved not to have because I remember it the first time and it was HORRIBLE.

As for the allergic reactions, you can't help those, I'm just glad I don't have any of that, but the nausea sure gets annoying.

I've been on Clindamycin for 10 days (tonight is my last dose) of 2 150mg pills 4 times per day for a staph infection. Developed a rash on my chest and back this morning and is a bit worse tonight. Staph Infection is 80% gone and doctor says I should continue the Clindamycin beyond the 10 days to get rid of the infection.

But, after this final dose, I don't think I should keep taking it. No stomach problems. Sort of spacey.
