started taking this clindamycin 3 days ago and this morning I woke up extremely dizzy. When I try to lie down everything begins to spin out of control. I dont know how long this stuff stays in the system or if this spinning out of control will end soon.

I went to the dentist today for a tooth abcess and was prescribed Clindamycin 150mg 4 times a day. I popped one in my mouth and swallowed and then, because I had never heard of this antibiotic before, I decided to look it up. It's like a horror story. I promptly called my dentist and asked him to prescribe me a different antibiotic and I have taken 2 acidophilis tablets and eaten 2 probiotic yoghurts. I am hoping and praying that the one tablet I took does not have any effect on me. Why is this drug still on the market?!

This Drug sucks...trusting my dentist I took it for a tooth infection.

Mid-end of treatment I started to get a Pimply rash on my body, I finished treatment the following day and saw a physician. The doctor explained I was having an allergic reaction to the drug and to never take it again. I am a healthy normal 30 year old woman.

I started having a lot of stomach pain and gas and bloating ..as well as dizziness.

Approx 10 days AFTER treatment was completed..I developed Severe Diarrhea (good thing I had a few days off) I went to the bathroom in excess of 50 times in two days..I still have diarrhea and bloody mucus stools, now anal itching and a yeast infection I was told if it doesn't go away I should go to the hospital for a colon scope.
I know have headaches I feel like I cannot complete my bowel movements and have had to alter my diet due to stomach upset. I ate food and yogurt during treatment and rested and all the things your supposed to do. I am afraid of the damage that has been done and its now three weeks since the end of my ONE week treatment I just feel sick.

I don't recommend this drug to anyone..there are many different anti-biotics that will help you NOT THIS>

Now I have to live like this?

To go round telling people NOT to take a drug because of a reaction someone else has had is dumb darling. If you read all the warning labels on clindamycin your pharmacy should have provided you with, you have known this is a possible side affect. It does not happen to everyone. I take clyndamycin a lot for a chronic condition and have NEVER had this. Also being a Paramedic I will tell you clindamycin is a drug and all drugs come with risks and side effects. If we ran around telling everyone not to take a drug because of what a drug has done to us or someone we know, no one would take any type of drug at all.
Yes there is a a risk when taking clindamycin, but something your uneducated self should know is doctors chose benefit over the risk. Meaning if the benefit of the drug outweighs the risk... you get the drug.
You should ALWAYS educate yourself when taking a new prescription before popping it in your mouth anyways. Many people get a pill and will take it and will not read all the warnings, and inscriptions on the packaging.
Well here is a drug fact for all drugs you can take with you on over the counter and prescribed... all drugs can cause death! Its a side effect and risk you take every time you take a drug!!
Get a clue and stop being media like causing mass fear and paranoia to people. I have been taking this drug for years off and on multiple times and the only side effect I have ever experienced is severe weakness, nausea, and fatigue. I am willing to risk it because I know what this drug can do for me. I also know that the colitis it can cause is rarely fatal, severe, but rarely fatal!
I personally appreciate these informative posts. I personally am going to tell everyone I know NOT TO TAKE THIS MEDICINE!!!!!!!!!! And I am not trying to cause mass paranoia. My heart has been racing for days.. My head feels woozy and I'm really out of it. I'm swelling. I feel like I can't breathe. ETC. So just because you're a paramedic, don't feel entitled to go around calling people dumb for just feeling the need to get the word out. I knew I wasn't feeling right after 5 days on this stuff, and it was this forum that encouraged me to call my dentist and tell him I was no longer taking it. Oh yes, and my ears are ringing and ache inside. So yes, this medicine is AWFUL!!! AND I DON'T CARE WHO DOESN'T WANT ME SAYING IT. ASK FOR SOMETHING ELSE, AT LEAST AT FIRST!!! PLEASE!!!!!

Hi, i took oral clindamycin(42 pills, 3x per day) for a week for a pilonidal cyst. while taking them i slowly developed diarrhea during the treatment and had some gas and cramping, which i figure is normal for diarrhea (i had an intestinal parasite for 6 months last year with diarrhea pretty much every day so it was something i got to know very well). i had very, very bad diarrhea one of the days, but i am also lactose intolerant and had some dairy, so i figured that was the cause. one of the days i got severe heartburn for the first time in my life but thats something i dont really care about. i started taking 2 acidophillus pills every day halfway through the treatment and eating large amounts of yogurt. well its been 2 days since i finished the treatment, and my regularity is slowly coming back, and ive lost much of the extreme urgency to use the bathroom that i had while on the antibiotics whenever i do need to have a bowel movement. i am however mildly lightheaded, still semi-bloated in my intestines with gas and less-than-regular bowel movements. im on here with the hope of someone being able to answer whether on not these kind of symptoms will go away eventually/soon (since my prolonged intestinal issues last year ive become paranoid of having more issues that dont go away easily)

I took 300 MG of clindamycin three times per day for 7 days before a tooth extraction/placement of implant. I was scared after reading all the posts here, but the only problem I had was a feeling of fullness (gas?) and a little more looseness than usual. Not diarrhea. As a preventative, I drank 1 cup of Kefir each morning and ate 1 cup of organic yogurt every evening. After I finished the antibiotic, I have cut back to yogurt or kefir once per day. I had the procedure one week after I finished the antibiotics. Now I'm on ampicillin for 1 week.

OMG... You guys just make the other person more paranoid than the next. I have been taking this med for 4 days 300 mg's for a severely infected Wisdom tooth and I am fine!! It's not the anti-biotic doing ALL these things to you. I think a lot of people just LOOK for things to worry and/or complain about. Worry warts as they call them. The Clindamycin is FINE and if you ARE having diareah issues, then take some Acidophilous as someone above mentioned while you are on it. Don't just make others paranoid when the drug is doing the job it is suppose to do. Which is GET RID OF THE INFECTION IN YOUR TOOTH. Do you want to get rid of the infection? Or possibly die from the poisons from the tooth absess etc.? Think about it!!

I've taken it as a pre-med prior to dental visits for years now. I have no side effects like those above. Just shows that everyone reacts differently to medication. Remember, this is a small sampling of comments, so don't judge too quickly. But I agree with everyone here, if it did cause problems, I would call my Dr. and get prescibed something else.

Did anyone notice any yellow left on towels when taking this medication? We have noticed when she washes her hands and dries them off on a towel, the towel has a yellow hue on it. Same thing when she dries off from a shower. She has been taking 300MG every 6 hours for 10 days now.

I was prescribed this medicine by IV two months ago for a dental infection. Two days after coming off I had a severe dizzy spell and landed in the ER. They told me it wasn't the medicine and continued to take it. I couldn't handle the dizziness any longer so they switched it. After 6 weeks and the infection not responding to any antibiotic I had dental surgery. Again three days into the second course of clindamycin, after surgery, the dizziness and headaches are so severe I landed in the ER again. My family doc finally says I think your onto something and stop taking it. Im interested to hear if anyone has had severe dizziness with this med and if you have how long does it take to go away. It's been two months and I am still dizzy. Had CT, MRI blood work and all normal, but I am so dizzy from this med that I can't even sit up. Help!!!

Ask for something else. Im 28 years old. Very health. I contracted MRSA at a local gym. Went to the doctor for something that look like a spider bite. Found out it was MRSA and there had been an outbreak known at my gym. They gave me clindamycin. Within hours I had major diarrhea. I never have stomach problems. I eat very spicy food with no effect. With this medicine I was using the bathroom 10+ times a day with very little warning. After the course of the medicine it still effected me for 7+ weeks now. Things are just now starting to improve. I developed a hemorrhoid because of this. And now rectal itching and sever pain when using the bathroom. Ask the doctor for something else!
