Has anyone had diarhhea using clindamycin?
|
||||
I have not had diarrea yet but am just halfway through my prescription of 450 mg 4x a day for 10 days. The Doctor did tell me that it would probably give me diarrea but to not worry about it and take it all. |
||||
Yes - almost immediately after starting 150mg every 6 hours. Gas/loose stool/diahrea kept me pretty busy looking for restrooms on a recent road trip. All this for an infected tooth. It is vital for me to take with food or plenty of water or I get a burning sensation in my stomach. |

You should ofcourse continue taking your mediciation, if you are using clindamycin. The sideeffects from the GI-tract is well known, a perticular form of colitis may form caused by overgrowt of clostridium difficile-bacteria which clindamycin is "selecting"-ahead. This is treatable and very very rare. Do not confuse this with diarrhea in general which also is a common sideeffect.

I had the same experience after a tooth infection. I still have to get a colonoscopy, but surprisingly my bowel movements are much more regular than before. The clindamycin must have killed off a lot of long term bacteria that may have caused previous bowel problems. There was some rectal bleeding and stool discoloration (probably from blood) at the time of the clindamycin but not anymore. There is also rectal itching caused by something there when irritated by residues, I haven't figured out what it is yet. Someone suggested a hemmoroid. But my greatest fear is that the clindamycin experience will make a colonoscopy more difficult to differentiate between a clindamycin/colitis induced thingy and a real dangerous colon cancer thingy. Apart from the itching from the irritation, it took two or three months for the bathroom to seem like normal again. There had been like a yellowish fluid associated with the stools during that period. |

I was prescribed this anti-biotic in 2005 after a root canal. 4 days into this I noticed small red splotches on both arms. I promptly called my dentist and the pharmacists and they both told me I would have had a reaction in the first 24 hours, so I continued taking it. Well, they were wrong but I was stupid not to take further action. I also experienced diahrea and still today I wonder if the bowel attacks (which are very soft) are a permanent side effect. I've heard it can be. I also get bouts of nausea now and again. I know it's not from the flu. I am going to see a doctor about this I am quite upset.

My husband finished his prescription of clindamycin over 3 weeks ago. During the last few days of taking it, he started with diahrea. Now, he has cramping, rectal itching, and his stools look nothing like a stool. They are pale (sometimes white) and have no real shape to them, like shredded cotton balls. We will be going to the doctor this week to have it checked out. I recommend anyone prescribed clindamycin to inquire about a different antibiotic. There are plenty of others out there that work just as well, without the added burden.

My dentist prescribed clindamycin for a gum infection. I am not impressed. Only have been taking it for 24 hours and my chest feels like someone is tightening a turnbuckle in it. Dizziness set in around 10 a.m. this morning and I can barely stay standing up for longer than 15 minutes at a time. The diahrea I am having is like no other I remember in my 50 years of living. If things don't improve quickly, I won't be taking the next 150 mg.

Do NOT take clidmyacin. This is a very dangerous drug. I took the medication for an infected tooth, six weeks later I still have severe diahrea. I often use the bathroom up to 40 times a day. There is not much that can be done about it. Keep hydrated and eat yogurt with live cultures to regain some "good" bacteria in your body.

diarhhea is a common side effect but rarley can cause colitis in some people. i highly reccomend getting a bottle of acidophilus and taking it while you are taking the clindamycin and up to two weeks after stoping clindamycin. clindamycin destroys bacteria, including the good bacteria flora in your intestines which is what causes the diarhhea and what eventually causes colitis. acidophilus replaces the flora and other good live bacteria back into you intestines. my wife did this and didnt even get gas from it. i started clindamycin 150mg 3x daily for 7 days for a tooth infection and when i take it with acidophilus and something like pretzels or crackers...i dont really feel a thing.
best of luck and when in doubt consult your physcian |

I was also prescribed Clindamycin after a root canal just recently. The 4th day after taking it I woke up very dizzy and it took me over an hour just to get out of bed. After that the diarrhea started in and didn't stop for 4 weeks. I have been taking acidophyllis since then and it has helped but am nowhere "normal". I also experienced nausea sometimes but thought that was from sinus. I will never take this antibiotic again and have since then heard from several other people who have taken it and having major problems. I hope you are doing better.

I too have had diarrhea and cramping since using DUAC, a facial cream with clindamyacin. I have had c-dif and the associated pseudomembraneous colitis that goes with it. I ended up in the hospital. I am taking a huge dose of probiotics (make sure they are refrigerated when you buy them) and it seems to be helping, but I am still not (going on two weeks) back to normal. I may end up calling the doctor and having to take some Flagyl. I think it helps. Watch out for Cleosin and Clindamycin.

1 SOUNDS LIKE YOU WORK FOR THE DRUG COMPANY WHO MAKES IT. I've only taken it for 3 days, and I'm sick as heck! I'm sorry; but the has to be something better! |

I was given a clindamycin six weeks ago and I wish I had thrown it all away. I have constant diarrhea and fevers since and I am waiting for a hospital appointment so they can look at my colon.
Do not take this medicine, it simply isnt worth it, it can ruin your life. |

I had a root canal 3wks ago and was initally given clindamycin. Initial diarrhea kicked in after the 1st day & in the next couple of days it turned severe. I checked with my doctor and was switched to amoxicillan, but the symptoms persisted. After about 5 days I was told to stop taking all antibiotics & chk for improvement after 3days. It took about a week and bowel movements improved somewhat, but have yet to be normal - the diarrhea still comes & goes. As of this posting, it's bad again. I had a check-up with my primary doctor & he also suggested trying the active yogurt (he didn't mention the acedolphilis, but I'll plan on adding that if things don't improve). Also, another post mentioned a salty\metallic taste and I've experienced that as well. I asked the dentist about that and they didn't have an answer. I thought maybe it might be the temp. filling compound breaking down, but they said that shouldn't be the case.
