Man! I put this medication down after 8 days! I felt like I WAS going to die!!

I felt sharp pains in my left side under my breast and I couldn't figure out why and at first I thought it was my spleen enlarging, then I found out it was my stomach and then I looked up hydrocodone and clindamycin and boom clindamycin was the coprate for my pains..

Now I have diarrhea and indigestion! This is not good! Not at all!!

Im flushing these devil pills and asking for penicillin on MONDAY! Atleast you can smell the penicillin working when you urinate!

Some advice... Vicodin isnt easy on the stomach.. well either is clindamycin.. It isnt a devil pill... And lastly you might stop sniffing your urine in the bathroom.. Thats kind of weird dont you think?

Please, please please, to anyone reading these posts -disregard the comments from JJT of Colorado. I took 150 mg of Clindomycin 4 x daily starting 12/08/2008 for a severe gum infection. From mid- January, until now,2/22/09 I have had all the symptoms described EXCEPT nausea. I am in the bathroom 8-10 times a day, with the runs, and for 2-3 hours in the morning. I also have cramps, heartburn and no appetite. And, anti diarrhea drugs WILL NOT WORK. I am starting to eat yogurt now, but will be going to see my doctor this week. I now recall that my doctor refused to give me clindamycin for a UTI a few months earlier, because of what she said it would do to my stomach ! Please, check with your own doctor if a dentist prescribes this for you !
Marianne... If you would have read the package insert... if you get the runs you are not to take anti-run meds.. So you are a Dork in the first place..and hopefully the doctor explained to you what a WACK HEAD you really are.... lol

I am on day 4 of this and I feel like my throat, stomach and chest are on fire. I have never experienced anyything like this. Two minutes after taking it, my throat started to tingly and feel like it is on fire. I drank a glass of milk which did not help. This pill suuuucks. No diarhea for me yet, but this heartburn, or whatever it is, is disgustingly painful.

This drug is very dangerous. You need to start eating yogurt with live cultures to stop the diarrha. Also take acedolphillis, a form of "good" bacteria you can find at the health food store.

STOP TAKING IT IMMEDIATELY. There may be issues tha may lead to fatalities.

SPEAK TO YOUR PHYSICIAN. REFUSE TO TAKE THIS.

This is concerning my daughter who had an oral surgery (pulled wisdom teeth 2) last friday. Oral surgeon prescribed her this antibiotic Clindamycin 150 mg 4 times /day with 20 capsules.
After taking it for 2 days she was complaining of her stomach pain, then her chest now her throat. Until I read all this comment about this medication.. I would never give this to my child again EVER!!! this antibiotic is very DANGEROUS!.
Now I dont know if my child's (17 yrs old)stomach lining or kidney or liver is damaged!... Please dont ask for this antibiotic or refused it if MD prescribed you....it's not going to help people.

My dentist prescribed Clindamycin 300mg x 4 times a day for 7 days. However, since the second day, I started dysphagia, swollen pain, then to forth day, I started heartburing pain and could not sleep. I stopped clindamycin and went to emergency room, but the ER physician could not solved the pain. The pain was severe and I could not drink and eat until two days ago when my family physician prescribed my a anti gastric acid agent. The symptom is much improved, but still remaining swollen pain. I think I have esophagus ulcer. I don't know the damage to my esophagus is unhealed and if it may develop to esophagus cancer. Quiet worry...

I was on clindamycin for 14 days for an infection, and have been off of it for 2 days now. I was taking 600 mg 4 times a day for the first 3 days, then 300 mg 4 times a day for the rest of the duration. Had diarrhea for the first several days, which has subsided a little but not entirely. It caused a funny taste in my mouth, and made me quite sick to my stomach. When I took my last dose two days ago, it felt like they got stuck in my throat and even though I know they aren't, it feels like they are still there. Also, have had some pretty bad heartburn. I will never take this medicine again.

I meant to say to be SURE to take a good yogurt ( organic like Stonyfield) a few times BETWEEN your capsules...this should help with the tummy problems...also some wrote that they are taking an antacid...which is a good idea...Clinda..is the best "tooth/ mouth" drug but of course there ARE others

I just got prescribed this medication due to the dentist pulling my teeth.I have only taken one dose so far and didn't lie down for an hour.. Now I tried to lie down and I just start feeling like I am going to be sick. As soon as I sit up and drink water I feel fine again.. Haven't tried lying down yet. After reading all these horror stories I am scared. They were going to give me Amoxocillan but I am allergic. If any of these symptoms arise on me what should I do? I will be checking for updates frequently...

I took it a few years ago and finished my 10 days of it without problems.
My dentist prescribed it to me because she thought I had the beginnings of a tooth infection. I got a root canal done but from my experience I felt I didn't need to take it. I went against my better judgement and started taking about 4 days worth of it. On the 3rd day or so I started feeling horrible heartburn about 15 mins after taking it. I had to eat something to help. I called my dentist and told them I'm stopping the medication. They agreed. It's been 4-5 days now but I'm getting worse heartburn, especially when I swallow and food goes past the part of my esophagus that got damaged. I hope this goes away. I also started eating a lot of yogurt.
DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICATION UNLESS YOU ABSOLUTELY NEED IT!

I'm taking clindamycin 300mg 3x daily for possible abcess. I've had a low grade fever for 3 days(which I didn't have before) total loss of appetite with horrible waves of nausea. Haven't been able to eat in 4 days. No energy.

I just finished a 10-day cycle of clindamycin, which was prescribed for a tooth abcess. I finished the cycle three days ago but, like several others here, I am still experiencing a mild stomach pain, mostly when eating. The pain only becomes evident when the food hits my stomach. Otherwise, no other symptoms.

I've read that a tooth abcess alone can cause esophageal and stomach irritation, but I am suspicious of the clindamycin as I had no such discomfort prior to taking it and did experience significant acid reflux whilst I was taking it.

Clindamycin is a very strong antibiotic. And it, like other strong medications, can cause stomach irritation (gastritis). Dentists shouldn't be so nonchalant about prescribing it for everything, in my opinion. There's the whole issue of resistence as well, which is important

Wish I'd never taken it.

I posted last month about esophagus pains when swallowing food after taking only 4 days worth of the medication. The pain lasted a good 2+ weeks. However, it finally went away and I'm back to normal now. Thank God!

I have to say it was a very humbling experience to not be able to eat anything I want. I had to stick to only soft food, and even when I ate soft food I had to drink A LOT of water to get the food down past the part of my esophagus that got damaged. Even drinking juice or other non-clear liquid caused major discomfort.

I hope all you other suffers eventually heal up like I did.

I WAS CURRENTLY PRESCRIBED CLINDAMYCIN FOR AN INFECTION FROM A TOOTH THAT I HAD A ROOT CANAL DONE ON FIVE YEARS AGO WHERE ONE OF THE ROOTS WERE MISSED. THE FIRST 3 DAYS WERE OKAY BUT ON THE FOURTH DAY IMMEDIATELY AFTER TAKING THE MEDICINE, I GOT THE WORST PAIN IN MY STOMACH. IT FEELS LIKE SOMEONE HAS PUNCHED YOU IN THE STOMACH AND THEN YOU HAVE A FEELING OF SEVERE HEARTBURN. USUALLY DIARRHEA DOESN'T HAPPEN UNTIL THE AFTERNOON BUT THEN STOPS. THE PAIN IS WORSE THAN HAVING DIARRHEA. I HAVE TRIED DIFFERENT APPROACHES WITH DIFFERENT FOODS BUT RESULTS ARE THE SAME. I THOUGHT AT FIRST MAYBE IT WAS MY GALL BLADDER BUT AFTER TALKING TO MY SISTER WHO IS A NURSE, SHE SAID IT WAS THE MEDICINE. AFTER TAKING MY DOSE TONITE AND IMMEDIATELY FEELING LIKE I WANT TO DOUBLE OVER BECAUSE OF THE PAIN, I THOUGHT I WOULD LOOK IT UP ONLINE AND I'M GLAD I DID. I SEE NOW THAT IT HAS THAT REACTION ON OTHERS AS WELL.PRETTY SCAREY!! I STILL HAVE ONE MORE WEEK BUT I AM GOING TO TAKE THE ADVICE OF THE ONE MAN WHO TAKES THE ACTIVIA YOGART AND SEE IF THAT MAKES A DIFFERENCE. ALSO, DOES ANYONE SEEM TO HAVE A PROBLEM OF GETTING ALL FOUR DOSES IN WITHOUT HAVING TO TAKE IT EITHER EXTREMELY EARLY OR EXTREMELY LATE???? ANY ADVICE IS MUCH APPRECIATED.
