I am stopping this drug today. The first RX made me vomit, so Dr. called this one in. Take four/day Can't stand it. Was on Amoxicilin for Strep throat. No sidie effects w/ that . Taken off it by second Dr. Now being treated for Cellulitis. Since Dec. I have had five different antibiotics? What happened to the times when they gave you a shot of Pennicilin? All these ones I 've been give are "to kill bacteria"....so why not stick with one that doesn't give you side effects? I think they own stock in Pharmacy and just love writing Rx's. My stomach is upset, I have heartburn and my swallowing is already in trouble from the Strep. Not worth chancing........I'll just die from the Cellulitis then.....

If you please let me know, cause I went to the dermatologist and nothing seems to help me. Thank you! I've got the rash too. It covers an area about the size of your hand. had it for about two months now all over my left thigh and it has turned dark (bruise-like) and developed plaque. The skin is scaly white and cracking. Kinda hurts. Looks like its morphed into psoriasis now to me. I've been applying coal tar and salyclic acid to it for the past week. It is helping. The rash still itches though but it is diminishing. I've made an appointment with my dermatologist. This drug cured my infection but the side effects are ridiculous.

I posted this messgae elsewhere, but it might help here too.
I was prescribed Clindamycin (300mg 4x daily for four days, 150mg 4x daily for 10 days) to fight a bad infection after a failed root canal and prior to the subsequent tooth extraction (not fun). I had many reservations after reading the bad experiences posted. My dentist asked if I had stomach or GI issues in the past - I hadn't, and he assured me that his other patients did very well on Clindamycin.
I just finished two weeks on the medication. The infection was knocked out and I did not experience any bad side effects. If I had to find something, my face was a little itchy for a couple days and my stools were a bit softer – but I doubt I would have even noticed if I wasn’t on the lookout for side effects.
Based on other posts and my own experiences, I followed this basic regimen (please note that my methods weren’t groundbreaking but weren’t all necessarily doctor-prescribed either - check with your physician). - I drank 16oz of plain water with every dose and LOTS of water (and some Gatorade) in between (and peed a lot) - I stood or sat upright ½ hour to an hour after taking the meds - I took a probiotic/acidophilus tablet 2 hours after each dose (and am continuing for a couple weeks now that I’m off Clinda) - I refrained from milk (except for yogurt), meats, heavy food etc while on Clindamycin - I kept my diet plain, mainly soup, rice, crackers, probiotic yogurt, peanut butter - I resisted ‘regular food’ while on Clinda even though I felt better - I didn’t vary my routine
I hope others have a better experience with Clindamycin as well.

I took clindomycin for an abcessed tooth as well. Had no problems while taking it. 300mg 4xa aday for 7 days. As soon as I stopped taking it is when it all happened. I have all of the side effects as well as others not listed. Major heartburn, pains in my head and ears as well as blurry vision. I was just fine before taking this poison. But i trusted my dentists judgement. Stay away from it!

I am taking clindamycin for a sever sore throat and I now have a sever rash that is not going away. Stopped immediately taking this. I found out though that childrens motrin in liqiud works very well. I just doubled the dose. That worked wonderful. I dont know why I bothered with the stupid clindamycin in the first place. This rash is horrible.

I took this perscribed poision for a spider bite. One week afetr finishing the perscription had severe diarrhea and cramps, loss of all appetite, general misery. After a week of laying on the floor in pain I wnt back to the doctor and they perscribed Flagyl. This time I did my research and chose not to take the second round of perecription poision. It has been three weeks now and I have been taking probiotics of several sorts and garlic pills as a natural antibiotic. I am showing some signs of improvement but I am in no way better. Moral - NEVER trust the mediacl establishment and at all costs DO NOT take this medication. I cant even imagine how sick I would ne right now if I had taken the Flagyl - I have heard horror stories aboyt that medication as well. Probiotics, water and Gator Aid mix and very mild foods have helped for me, good luck to all those poisioned by this medication.

Well after reading this I am suprised I lasted this long on this poisen! I had a Strep Throat infection, and i was prescribed this medicine 300 MG 4x daily. When i stared it i had trouble swallowing, but after thaty, it seemed to take away my Strep fine. I was told to keep on it as prescribed until it was gone and just yesterday, i woke up with a horrible rash all over my thighs, hips, arms completely covered and my feet are bad too. I called my doctor and they told me to take an oatmeal bath so i did. i woke up today and it's WORSE! I dont know what to do and if ANYONE has had this reaction PLEASE help me out!! thank you so much and anyone reading this.. STAY away from it! it's not worth it.

my son took clindamycin for a sinus infection we could not get rid of. He suffered from colitis terribly for about 5 mos. before someone (not his doctor) told us to remove all traces of dairy products. He cleared up after about 3 days (we read every label!) we introduced very little dairy back and he took all meals with a lactaid pill. 7 years later still struggles with dairy products. God bless you all as this was a very difficult time for our family. Wish we had known to stay away from this drug.

Probiotics, strong ones not available at drugstores. About 15 billion/ dose content, start easy up it to three times per day.
Yogurt - make sure it's an active culture, several times per day.

I'm Kevin from Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada. After being diagnosed with testicular cancer and having my left nut amputated, my urologist prescribed antibiotic to me... I guess it worked in regards to my incision etc. not getting infected, but after taking the prescribed 21 pills, a week later I began having severe diahrea, including blood and mucus in each stool. It's now been 3 weeks since I had a normal bowel movement, and I've been to the local hospital emergency, and just today had a colonoscopy and gastroscopy done. I too wish I would've seen this website earlier, because I'm sure this antibiotic is the problem, since I've never had issues with indigestion nor with bowel movements in my life (I'm 40 years old).

I took this stuff for 3 or 4 days, 150Mg 4X a day. The diarrhea started pretty quickly and kept getting worse where I was just passing water along with intestinal lining. The last straw was when I left a trail across the house trying to get to the restroom.
The dentist then prescribed flagyl, which I am leary to try, at least until the diarrhea goes away. It's been almost two weeks.

I had a side affect that no one seems to complain of, but I know it was this antibiotic, which is very strong and usually given for bad infections. I was given this intravenously and the following day had a migrance the entire day. I tried all kinds of pain relievers and nothing worked. I was given tablet to continue taking but those are going in the toilet. Good luck too all the consume this. It has it's place, but should be reserved for the very ill.

I was prescribed 300 mg pills of clindamycin for an infected finger and took it for about two days. It turned into a horror show. I was standing at the security section wating to board a plane (with my shoes off) when without warning I started vomiting all over the place. This went on for hours even while on the plane.(To my suprise they let me board). It is now the 3rd day and the nausea and diarrhea are gone but I'm weak as a kitten. Good medecine !!

I have been taking Clindamycin for three days now, 300 mg 4 x day. Although I do have tummy ache and cramping and a horrible taste in my mouth, I am grateful for the drug!
I had dental implants and a root canal. I was on antibiotics (amoxicillin and then augmentin) for 19 days and it just did not work. I was miserable, and ready to break out the Craftsman tools to extract any teeth remotely sore. I had an infection below the tooth in my jaw and it had spread to my ear.
By the 6th dose I was able to think again. I was also on pain meds so perhaps the diarrhea was abated. I would rather have the diarrhea than a swollen face and perhaps sepsis. I do not have a spleen and I can't afford a serious infection.
I totally agree with post #44. It has helped me tremendously... especially more fluids and staying upright for at least 30 minutes after taking it. It is in the literature that one must remain upright. The literature is really helpful as they explain the reason some diarrhea can be due to a certain bacteria that can flourish during the course however it is rare. It is important to let your doctor know about it. I was impressed that this drug can have a high concentration even in bone, that is good news if you are sick!
In my case the medication side effects are minimal compared to no sleep, constant pain, fever, delirium and the fear of "it getting worse".
