Walmart and Giant Eagle have a new generic prescription plan. There is a list of qualifying generics and the cost is $4.00 Celexa(generic)is on the list. For someone who has no insurance that is a bargain. Check with your physican to see if your prescription is avali'able. Even with co-pay it may be cheaper.( they get no kick back from either business) So you help no one but your self.
I use this myself and its a wonderful price. I lost my job and about three months ago (and insurance) and have been on Celexa (generic) since that time. But.....I've gained about 30 lbs. I've stopped drinking and am eating very carefully now, in an attempt to figure it out, but I'm about convinced that it is the Celexa. I don't know what to do. I've been on depression meds for 25 yrs.

Just took my first Celexa last night and I know it wll take awhile for it to work, I have never been on mood drugs before and am very nervous. I have been avoiding this for years-did not want medication-thought I could fight this on my own but have given up and will try the medicaition but am very nervous. Hope I do lose some weight but just want to be my normal self. Will try to post again in a few days.

Celexa has not made me lose or gain any weight. I'm on 40 mg of Celexa and 300 mg of Wellbutrin. Neither have made me gain weight.
However Zyprexa and Risperidal made me gain 25 lbs. in one month, so approach these with caution if your doctor prescribes either of them!
I lose weight when I started taking Celexa/Cetalopram. But I thought it was a coincidence. Then I was off Celexa for awhile and gained weight. Now I started taking it again and have lost weight again. Not sure how it happens, but it does.

I lost weight initially on 20mg and have been on Citalopram for a year and have gained 45lbs. My eating habits haven't changed and the weight gain has not been good for my arthritic joints. I am thinking of cutting my pills in half and weaning myself off of them over a month long period.

I have been on Citalopram for 3 weeks now. I have lost 7 pounds (yay!) and remarkably lost my cravings for sugar and carbs. I eat better. Initially I lost all appetite, was nauseated, had diarrhea, extremely tired (this was the worse side effect for me). I read that it takes weeks for your body to become used to the medication, so I stuck it out. I am so very glad I did! I have resisted taking anti depressants for years and years but when my stress level was too much I decided to see my doctor. I am only on 10mg a day, which I take at night as it makes me tired (a nice side effect, I sleep much better!). I find that negative thoughts don't stick in my head like they used to, I don't obsess over 'what if's', I enjoy life and am able to socialize without anxiety and naturally. My sex drive may have decreased a little, but my overall happiness and self esteem has improved - I feel better about myself and I feel physically attractive to my husband. So our intimacy has actually improved. It's changed my life, and I wish I had gone on it years ago. I would encourage anyone to stick it out to see if it will work for you or not. Don't give up too easily. If it's not working after 4-6 weeks (I have read even up to two months) then simply see your doctor and maybe try something else.

I have been on celexa for 1 month and have lost 15 pounds. I have not had any cravings and when I eat a meal I get full on very little. I have mainly lost in my belly. I needed to lose weight but I am beginning to be concerned at how much and how fast it is coming off. I am now llosing about 2 pounds a day. My doctor can find nothing wrong with me. He said it is the celexa and he has seen a lot of this.

I got prescribed the generic today by my doctor, and I am terrified to gain weight. After having an ED for years...I've just started to weight train and come to terms with my body. I'm terrified to gain weight, but because I emotionally eat at times...im determined to not let this allow me to gain weight. Hopefully it has an adverse. My happiness is more important.

I have been taking 10mg of Citalopram for a week now, and so far I have lost 5 pounds. I am not unhealthy whatsoever; I'm a runner and I exercise (almost) daily and watch what I eat very closely. With that being said, I have an endless apetite (until starting Citalopram). I was always hungry and always snacking on something. The first day I began taking the meds, my cravings completely vanished. I also feel great; witty, talkative, bubbly, which I have never, ever felt like in my life! I'm almost scared that once my body adapts to it, it won't have the same affect on me anymore.

I too have noticed a great improvement since taking celexa. I am less stressed, less anxious, less parinoid, and have more energy and don't cry as easily. I had noticed a decrease in my appetite, but didn't even think about the fact that it could be because of my emotional eating. Been great-Thank God!! By the way I am on 40 mg.

I found that I lost weight while taking celexa. Like a previous poster, I think this medication keeps me from impulse eating due to stress.

I have been on celexa generic for about 6 weeks. I am very surprised that it has helped even out my moods. At only a 10 mg dose, I no longer sink into deep depression and do not feel tired. I have stopped over- eating and feel thinner. I do not use a scale, so I don't know how much I have lost.

I have never been over weight in my entire life. I CANNOT lose weight. There is no reason I should gain weight or be the same weight as I watch everything I eat. I eat very low fat foods, walk a mile every day, lift weights and eat small portions. I have always ate this way. I have also stopped eating anything after 6:00 at night. No snacks, etc. I started thinking that all of the AD I have been on affect people differently but I also think thatt all the ones I've taken sabotage my ongoing weight battles. On vibryd now. Bloated, puffy. :(

I took Celexa for right at a year and a half. At first it was great. Took about 3wks for the dizziness and tiredness to go away. Didnt have an appetite so started losing weight. Not sure what happened but started gaining like crazy! Im an active Mom of 2 and still gained almost 45 pounds. I took myself off in fear I would keep gaining. Not for me!!!

I was just given celexa for anxiety and PPD, i am worried about weight gain. Anyone experience weight loss or gain on celexa. I was given 20 mg.
I have been on celexa (20MG) for about 18 months and gained a total of 40lbs. I'm short (5'1") and used to weight 135lbs. I eat right and exercise 4 to 5 times a week. It is very frustrating lose 1 lbs. and next week I would gain 2 lbs. and so on, you get the idea. I never had any trouble losing weight in the past.
Can anyone tell me if once you are off celexa if the weight will come off? Thank You.

Daily Horoscope for June 19

Sagittarius

Don't be surprised if a member of the family is unpredictable or does things on the spur of the moment today. There's nothing to worry about because they won't do anything too alarming or disruptive. In fact, their actions will be like a breath of fresh air and they may even help you to escape from a current rut. So don't hesitate to be that little bit different yourself, either.
