31 year old female on Celexa for 3 months. Started at 20mg, but had zero sex drive and was really groggy. Then got moved to 10mg, which has been fantastic for my anxiety and depression, but I am running into the problem of not being able to orgasm at all. Great sex drive, no orgasms. My doc gave me 100mg of Wellbutrin to use 30 minutes before sex, which has sort of helped. I can orgasm, but it now takes me 2-3 hours and requires multiple stimuli: boyfriend, toys, wine, etc. I get very excited and sort of just stay there for hours. Can't take more of the wellbutrin b/c of the possible manic side effects. So now I've experimented for two weeks with augmenting the Celexa with Buspirone. After getting over the initial nausea, headaches, etc. I find that I’m STILL not able to orgasm in less than 2 hours, and some of my anxiety is now coming back. So my questions: Has anyone had success with using the Buspirone (Buspor) with the Celexa over time? My dr suggested augmenting Celexa with Viagara, but insurance won’t cover it for women. Anyone tried that?

My husband was placed on celexa about 6 months ago, and sex was alright. Now sex is almost nonexistant. Even when we try its not any good, because he can't get hard enough for me. Its frustrating!!!! We are currently trying to have him take half the dose one day and the complete dose the following day to see if that makes a difference. We tried having him go off of it completely, which worked great for our sex life but not for our emotional life. He went back on it a few days later. Incidently I recently was placed on the same drug, and am having a libido issue myself maybe it will even us out. Hope this helps someone. |

I was on celexa only 10mg a day and I was able to ejaculate but it actually hurt and came out with little to no power. I have since been off, with horrible withdraws, but now my senses are out of this world I have developed premature ejaculation problems. I want my wife every second of the day it's all I think about. I've been trying to deal with anxiety with the Clair Weekes book, which really helped but my anxiety is worse than ever before. which is better? |

I started Celxa about two weeks ago. I was prescribed 20 mg a day. If I take the 20 mg, I am fine. I have taken anti depressants before and know a little of how they work and feel. So I know if I am having a bad bady day I can take 2 and it will be stronger. My sex drive is gone. I have no physical desires what so ever, however because celexa has calmed me down so much and my husband and I are getting along so much better, emotionally we are better than ever and that makes sex easier. My husband started to take Celexa but he said he was unable to ejaculate, as if he lost feeling, is how he described it, he got this side effect almost immediatley, with in two days, his sex drive, however is high when he takes celexa.
Since it has been only two weeks for me, I am a little scared, I do not want to gain weight and I do not want to lose my ability to want & enjoy sex and achieve orgasms. |

It just took me 2 weeks to come off Celexa cold turkey. It was hell on earth, but beleive me, whoever does this should look at it as an experience that will make you a stronger person. BTW; i started having sexual problems which finally told me to get off Celexa. After about 7 days i had THE BEST SEX IN MY ENTIRE LIFE!!!! It was like i was emotionally open and it was literally like breaking a dam wall. Stick in there, life will get better.

my advice is, the anxiety is part of the withdrawals from Celexa (Citalopram). The anxiety or depression does not "return" as such during the 2-3 weeks it takes to actually get over the withdrawals. The Celexa withdrawals actually cause Anxiety, depression, mood swings, nausea, etc etc. Read up on the symptoms of withdrawal from Citalopram; i personally went thru every single symptom. on the sex side, i am now recovered and have the best sex of my life. good luck |

I took Celaxa 20 mg for 6 years and quit cold turkey 18 months ago.
Just started taking it again this week. Too much depression in my head right now. Before Celexa and after getting off Celexa I had insomnia, very high sex drive, lots of stress, and bouts of depression. My sex drive was a 10 and my wifes is a 2. I thought about sex all the time. I needed sex 4-5 times a week and my wife wants it every 10 days. We probably had sex 2-3 time a week and I was always wanting more. While taking Celexa my sex drive was still higher than hers. But I only wanted sex once a week. The Celaxa actually helped our relationship in this regard. Not getting enough sex was part of my my stress. Difficulty achieving orgasm is a bummer, but for me it just takes a lot longer. I can still do it most of the time. If I cant I try to make sure that she has one. It is a side effect she is willing to accept. She does not get pressured for sex as often but it does take much longer now. I remembers skipping some Saturday Am pills and I think that helped on Saturday night. I might try taking Viagra to see if that helps me achieve orgasm faster. I sleep better and don't get all stressed out when I am on celexa. Did not have any real with drawl problems. |
