I have been reading all info on this forum which is really helpful and it makes me feel better knowing their are plenty more people in a similar situation.
I have been on Citalopram prescribed for Postnatal depression for about a year. I tried several other antidepressants first before settling on this one.I think part of the problem with the others was not sticking to them stopping/starting them and not giving them chance. I also suffered with really bad sweating with all off the Tablets at was so embarrasing walking into shops being able to smell the sweat on me and my face sweating was the worst. Even the strongest of deodorants did not work and it was a different kind of smell than that from sweating normally.I felt as if all the evil was sweating out of me haha.
I felt very tired and couldn't be bothered to do anythingor get out of bed whilst depressed but when i started to feel better i still just felt tired all time and still do even though i dont feel depressed. I feel dizzy when stand up alot of time and even though ifeel happy enough i still feel very lethargic. I am13wks pregnant so some of it is down to that but it obviously wasn't b4 that.
I've had blood pressure checked with feeeling dizzy, getting black dots in eyes few times and thats fine.I am a diabetic on Insulin as well as being on other meds and have been reducing CItalopram. I have reduced to 10mg from 40mg graduaallyover last 2 months on GP's advice. Does anyone else think this could have anything to do with Citalopram or maybe it just i'm a Lazy person??

I have been on the drug for 6 months. However I feel so tired all day then I am still insomniac at night. To be honest the treatment is worse than the original symptoms. I feel that I am going lower as I have no energy and I have put on massive amounts of weight over the past 3 weeks. I initially started on 20 mg and have been upped to 40 mg (about 12 weeks ago)
Anyone out there think the treatment is beneficial.

I have been checking out websites about Citalopram to see if I want to start taking it. I was put on the antidepressant Effexor about 6 years ago. My doctor recently told me that I had to get off of it because my blood pressure was uncontrollable, even on 2 b/p medications! I had told her for years that I sweated like crazy all the time and gained weight at the drop of a hat, but she never considered it was the Effexor. Now she has me getting off of it and wants me to start Citalopram and I'm saying HELL NO! For the first time in 6 years I don't feel like a freakin' zombie! I actually feel like DOING something besides sleeping and sitting on my butt watching t.v. I think the FDA needs to check out these drugs more carefully, instead of taking probable kick backs from the drug companies to get people like us hooked on this crap and our doctors pushing it on us all the time!

Joanne,
I most definitely think it's the Citalapram. I think most antidepressant are hard on our kidneys', but you don't hear about that when the doctor wants to put you on them. My doctor had me take a 24hr urine collection test and my results came back critical. That meant my hormones for norepenephrine, dopamine, etc were through the roof. She had me get a CT scan to see if I had a mass on either of my adrenal glands. Thankfully, I didn't. So, she told me it definitely was the Effexor. After the total hell I've been through trying to get off Effexor I adamantly refuse to take the Citalopram. No way,no how. I actually feel human again instead of damn zombie. Be your own advocate and ask your doctor exactly how much he/she knows about the drug, because a lot of doctors only know what th drug reps tell them. Best of luck to you.

OMG! I thought I was the only tired Zombie... I am so tired all the time. I can sleep like a new born baby. And, I am only on 10mg of Citalopram and WILL NOT increase my dose. I have not gained weight. I actually have no drive to eat AT ALL. I actually lost weight. I have been on the medication for 3 1/2 weeks. I actually take an energy pill in the morning to get me through the day. But, wouldn't recommend it unless you talk to your DR.

Thank god i am not the only one!!
I get really tired thru out the day and even when i first wake in the mornings! At first i thought it was because i worked to hard! So i decreased the work load of a day but it didnt make a difference, i have also tried hard at eating a balanced diet trying too boost the energy but like most things it didnt work!! I have been on Citalopram for 2 years now and i still get really sleepy thru the day, but i struggle on! I to have asked my doc about the tiredness but she seems to dismay it! So it makes you think it cant be that bad???? Take care and Good luck to you all!

I feel so tired and lethargic throughout the day and at weekends i spend most of my time sleeping on the sofa. Been on the meds for 5 months started at 20mg and reduced to 10mg at my own request. Each month at my GP visit she asks hows things and i reply good other than the tiredness, give it some more time she then says and i agree. However i do not think this tiredness is going to go away whilst i am on this drug, unfortunately i know my options. HELP!!!!

I've been on citolapram for about 5 months and the tiredness I experience with my long term condition has been made ten times worse with the drug. I commute to London and sleep like a baby on the train yet my night sleep pattern is really bad. During the day at work, I could just fall asleep in front of my PC. Tye upshot is, these drugs are sheep in wolves clothes and do more harm than good. Even as I am writing this I feel lethargic. I am half way through my drug reduction and at the same time have been taking the Eye Q pure fish oils and amino acid to boost my brain development and serotinin levels and I must say in the mornings I feel clearer and more alert. Hoping the continued use of the fish oils will contain my depressive thoughts. It worked for a friend of mine.

I agree. I went off the wellbutrin and now I think that I need to talk to my Doc about changing. I sleep till 1pm easy. I need to take adhd pills to get a boost. I cannot get out of bed for anything. Futhermore I don't care about anything at all.

I do not feel happy.

There is one plus to all of this but not worth it. My acne is gone.

Yet, laying in bed all day watching TV and not doing my work is not worth it. I think that I am going to switch back to wellbutrin.

I have lost tons of weight also. Not bad but everyone keeps saying I look sick. Getting annoying.

Don't want to repeat what everyone has said but its so good to find out there are other people with the same problem as me! I am on citalopram and have been for 3 months. After the first couple of weeks I started to see an improvement in my moods and everything but now I'm so tired I can barely function. I dream very vividly at night and even when I'm really tired it takes me a long time to drop off. I also wake up at least once in the night. Is this the citalopram? I'm starting to feel a little down again, lack of energy and not wanting to do anything but sit at home and either read or watch tv. I'm hoping this is just the tiredness but should I consider that maybe the citalopram just isn't working well for me?

I went from Paxil to Celexa and had to decrease paxil and start celexa at the same time. During the time I was on both medications to make the change (ie: 40 mg paxil + 20 mg Celexa for one week) then (20 mg paxil +40 mg Celexa for one week) and (10 mg paxil + 40 mg Celexa), I felt pretty good. Now it's only 40 mg celexa on my 4th day and I'm starting to feel tired. Did anyone else have this effect when changing from one to the other?

I started off on Zoloft in February and became allergic to it (I'm allergic to lots of drugs0. Went on Citalopram in late March, started off on 10 mg then went ot 20 mg to handle my depression. Now I am tired all the time, in bed the last six weeks by 7 PM most nights and sleep 'til 7 AM. I get nervous leg at night, I'm demotivated (that's not me) and I am a writer and am having serious problems with the creativity that flowed before the drug. I am also experiencing low sex drive (that's really not me) and I am going to quit this stuff. I have a dozen 20 mg tabs left any tips?

Does anyone also have recurring nausea with Citalopram?

I've been on it for about 5 weeks now and think that the therapy is doing way more for me than the drug.

I'm tired all the time but sleep at night is troubling. The nausea that I experienced early on seems to be coming back - when it's not there, my stomach is upset.

I think I need to see the doctor and taper off.

Looks like this is a very common trend and I think I may need to come off it. I'm unemployed right now and 2 or 3 days a week I'll get up only to go back to bed a couple hours later and sleep for up to 5 hours more. I started on 20mg Citalopram and up'd to 40 about 2 weeks ago. Depressive thoughts seem subsided, but I think this is actually worse. I'm calling the doctor tomorrow as I've read enough to realize this has to be caused by the drug.
