How do you keep the compounded formula cold when you travel? Im going to Florida.
Incidentally, I have a diabetic dog and the vet tells me to warm up the insulin vial in my palm before injecting because the cold solution can be uncomfortable. Seems to me if cold insulin can affect a bullet-proof lab, cold joy juice is certainly gonna be an issue where I'm putting it! As to "effectiveness," that is purely a matter of the correct dosage. Poster #80, you stick it in a cooler! Or buy one of the packs used by insulin users...Ebay! |

One other comment on preserving the life of the prescription up to 90 days. A typical prescription gives you enough for 10 injections. Set up a couple of syringes and leave 'em in the refrigerator. You can freeze, and re-freeze, the rest. Just adjust that pattern according to your use.

I was using Caverject Impluse. All ready mixed for using. I am now going to use Caverject in which I need to mix for the strenth. I am using the 20 microgram of power. I also using the 30 ml Bacteriostatic Water. With a 3 ml syringe. I need to know or understand. How much do I mixed the Bacteriostatic Water to the power. With the impluse I use to use all of the Caverject of 20 microgram. Do I put 3 ml of Bacteriostatic Water to have the strenth for 20 microgram. The way I do understand is that I do use the full syringe for 20 micrograms. Please tell me that it is right or wrong and tell me that 3 ml is 20 microgram. If you would like you can email me at c.duffy2@roadrunner.com

The amount of water has nothing to do with the strength. This is prescription medicine so I'm puzzled as to why you don't have clear instructions about how to mix? In any case, you shouldn't be looking for answers to this question on a message board, for God's sake...that's dangerous. You should be asking your pharmacist or doctor.

Hey HVG,
Where do you purchase your Trimix? What is the price? |
It's not Trimix...it's ordinary alprostadil, which is the active drug in Caverject and which any doctor can prescribe. I take the prescription to a local pharmacy that does "compounding"...in most towns, that will be a local pharmacist not a chain. "Compounding" is just custom prescription-filling. Runs me about $9 a shot...a vial gives me 10 shots. |
Thanks for the info HVG.
Does anyone know the cheapest Compounding Phamramcy that compounds Trimix and delivers via UPS or Fedex? |
What is Tri-Mix?
Trimix is an injectable three-drug cocktail used to treat erectile dysfunction. The active ingredients in the mixture are usually alprostadil, papaverine, and phentolamine. The injection must be compounded by a pharmacy and administered via intracavernosal injection into the penis. Trimix is typically compounded by a pharmacy.

Glad I found this info. My pharm told me they could get the powder at $250 a dose. Apparently I look like I am made of money. Actually am made of fat.

Do you think EDEX is a good solution? I used to use/like Tri-mix but insurance says no, the refrigeration (traveller)/expiration was a hassle but the product was great!

Now I am really up a tree. My urologist flatly told me that he didn't have time for stuff like this,(prescribing a mix). Next nearest urologist is 50 miles away. Pharmacy is now trying to help, but they don't seem to know much either. Any advixe short of changing doctors?
Your urologist, in addition to being unprofessional, is an asshole. He doesn't have time to scratch out a prescription? And you want to stay with him? Why???
In your case, try a non-specialist....your regular doctor can prescribe just as easily...start with minimum dosage and work up until it works? Or drive the 50 miles to see another...once you have the prescription, it's not like you have to drive every time. I'd drive a lot farther than that to retrieve that part of my life though. |

I have a question. My boyfriend is currently using this....and it's awesome. However, the pharmacy will only give us 2 20mcg vials of powder. The first time he used it, he used 7.5mcgs and it was WAY satisfactory, so he wants to try 5mcgs to see if it will be just as good but won't leave him not able to leave the house for 3 hours after being satisfied more than once, if you catch my drift. BUT, you are supposed to throw the leftover mix away right away after you use it. So, essentially, we are paying for what could very well be 8 doses, and can only safely take 2 doses. So why can't we get the powder in smaller vials, like 5mcgs? I asked pharmacists at both walgreens and cvs and was told they just weren't getting them in any size vial but 20mcgs. So essentially, is it safe to use it after it's been mixed 24 hours ago? If so, should it go in the fridge?
Thanks. |

I spoke to Pfizer today August 7, 2009. They told me the liquid form will not be available until 2010. The prescribing doctor has to say which is being prescribed. Evidently Boston Medical Group wrote me a prescription for the liquid form - so I cannot get it from my pharmacy. I phoned BMG without success. They would not give me a prescription for what is available.

This is nuts. You need a prescription for alprostadil probably, which any doctor can prescribe and which is readily available in liquid form. I got some a few days ago. Pfizer's caverject is (or was) simply a delivery system for the dry version of alprosatdil. Pfizer does not "own" alprostadil.
BMG is a firm that exploits folks with ED. They use alprostadil and some other medicines in the "vasodilator" class to create various ED "cocktails." You need a new mortgage to buy them. For god's sake, if you really want a solution to this problem, do your homework properly...sheesh. |
I got the alprostadil script from my Dr and got it compounded at a local pharmacy that compounds. It works GREAT and is a hell of a lot cheaper.
Bravo, Rick....pretty simple, huh? Can't understand why some others insist on corkscrewing themselves into the ground over this issue. They'll probably be the first ones in line when Pfizer shows up again with a pricey Caverject replacement. |
