I took Buspar on and off for a few months. I know you're supposed to take it constantly for it to build up and for it to work. At first, after taking it steadily for a week and a half to two weeks, the side effects would lessen, but then grow worse again, and did not diminish after 4 weeks, so I stopped completely.
The worst for me was 30 mins to an hour after taking it, light headedness and as best as I can describe it, little 'shocks' radiating from my chest down the undersides of my arms. These would last from a half an hour to two hours and were somewhat scary and unpleasant. I miss the reduction in anxiety I saw for a while, but those messed with me too much.

Uh-oh! I read alot of comments on here, and everyone seems to have started at the 7.5 dose. Why did my family doctor prescribe me the 15mg? Hah anxiety-ridden already.

I've been taking Buspar for Panic Attacks and mild anxiety for about 12 years. Getting the dosage right is sometimes tough. I settled on 12.5 mg twice a day. I have been able to pretty much eliminate the panic attacks, and anxiety for many years. I still occasionally get the "Buspar Buzz" about an hour after taking a dose. Seems to happen more often in the morning. Try to take a dose just after eating a meal to reduce this. This is the only significant side affect I have had.(I'm a pretty horny guy anyway so it's hard to tell if my libido increased much). Recently I have been working with my Dr. to adjust my cholesterol and lipid blood levels. He has me taking a high dose of Niacin, which has dramatically helped my lipid levels, but seems to be interacting with my Buspar. After several weeks on 2g if niacin per day I now get the Buspar Buzz every time I take it. I also am having my anxiety come back several days at a time. Has anyone else had any experience with Buspar interacting with any other drugs? I have not found any info on Buspar+Niacin.

i had that problem with lexapro when i was on it, particulary on the back of my neck, but that too eventually went away. i switched to buspar when i wanted to have kids, but did not experience that. however, everyone's body chemistry is different.

Started Buspar 2 1/2 weeks ago and am feeling less anxious. The only thing is now I find myself waking at night with night sweats. Anyone else experience this? This is making me more anxious, I can't win!

yeah, i started it couple days back at 10mg straight. light headedness though a slight euphoria or should i say a certain and slight lessening of depression due to lack of job, chronic disc pain and no social life at age 33.

taking 2mg Klonopin+10-15 mg Buspar daily now. will give it at least 3 weeks.

I am also switching over from Klonopin to Valium because benzos have given me short term and some long term amnesia. I dont want to be vegetative at age 33.

I will be back,

Good Luck

Hi everyone. Originally I am form Ukraine. Sorry my English, but here is me story. I never had anxiety in my life. In June-July 09 I had some several problems with my health. I do not want to give you more details, but I was very scared. On the top of all I got surgery to fix the hernia. Once pain from my surgery disappeared I start to develop the anxiety attacks that gradually turned to anxiety disorder. So far I have no symptoms from my previous health problems. Physically I feel just fine except my anxiety condition. My doctor prescribed me Zoloft. After 2 weeks I stopped due to severe side effects. Then I found a book about “St. John’s Wort”, saying that it works just like Zoloft, but without side effects. I started to take 3 capsules a day. After 1.5 months – no effect. I increase my dose to 4 capsules (plus swimming and yoga 2 times a week) with unbelievable effect. For 3 weeks on the row I was feeling better and better. I thought that by Christmas I am going to forget about my anxiety. Suddenly my daughter got swine flu and I was very stressed again. Now she is absolutely fine, but I feel even worse then before taking Zoloft.“St. John’s Wort” does not help any more. I increase dose to 6 capsule a day (by book), but with out effect. I stoked. My doctor advised me to try Buspirone 15 mg. I started 2 weeks ago on Friday Dec-4. I was taking 7.5mg twice a day. My side effects were terrible. Very strong headache for entire day, I was very dizzy plus anxiety. In one week on Fri Dec-11 I stopped. Searching Internet about Buspar side effects I found that they would disappear within 2-3 weeks of medication. My doc asked me to decrease dose to 5mg twice a day. On Mon Dec-14 I started again. Today is my second day. I feel just terrible with the same side effect as first time. I never felt worth in my life. My doc asking me to wait for 1-2 weeks. I have no idea how can I leave 2 weeks like this, if I am almost dead after 2 days. Do I really have to wait? Can please somebody with Buspirone experience give me a little advice what to do? Thank you.

I have been on Buspar for about 7 months now...no more pounding heart beat & less anxious feelings. Just would like to know, if someone could tell me..how can you gradually get off this drug? I feel better now and I want to know when I can stop taking it?

Daily Horoscope for December 23

Taurus

Someone isn't mucking about today, and if they're annoyed about something they'll come right out with it. This means you could be on the receiving end of some zingers, but equally it means that you'll be giving as good as you get. Now, although it will be very tempting to let off steam by giving someone an earful, aren't there better directions in which to channel your energy?
