Yes, I have anxiety also, but my depression has been almost overwhelming, and my doc put me on Buspar to "augment" the Zoloft I am on. Problem is, I'm still depressed. And I'm seeing from this site that it takes a while to work, but has anyone seen any improvement in depressive symptoms with this drug?

I'll leave it to others to write with more authority, but my impression is that buspar is not for your depression - maybe to help you along if your Doc changes up your Zoloft?? It's not an SSRI so I guess it works differently. On the other hand, my doc /did/ make a pitch to me about the positive aspects of buspar, saying that he has patients taking up to 45mg a day who feel "renewed confidence" after overcoming the anxiety. So maybe it helps with depression.

Thanks for the input. Ya, I was skeptical. Nice to get someone else's viewpoint on it.

I've taken anti-depressants for a few years and I recently stopped taking prozac because of side effects. My doctor prescribed Buspar for my depression and it works extremely well and without side effects. She said that it has been used in Europe as an anti-depressant for several years, but in America testing was never done to classify it as an anti-depressant.

I have been battling anxiety and some depression for over 2 years. I am 51 yrs.old. I think that I fight this free floating anxiety and that it makes me drepressed. My Dr. is starting me on Buspar tomarrow I am sure hoping that this will work. I have been on lexipro, wellbutrin, remeron, and a few weeks of Prozac{did't like it}.

I had a horrible time taking prozac. It gave me the worst migranes I've ever had to the point I could barely get out of bed. So far Buspar has been working pretty well for me as far as anxiety goes and yes, I have noticed I'm in a little better mood these days. Not sure if thats related to the drug or just the fact that my anxiety isn't bothering me as much anymore.

I've been on it for 2 weeks now and feel really tired and increased appetite and my stomach looks bigger. weird. it seems like any anti-anxiety or anti-dep. med makes you tired and fat. at least when i'm nervous and anxious, I'm thinner. i'm going to give it a good 2 months before i decided anything.

Start putting God in your life and this will help with your depression. Follow His commandments, read about all the miracles down through the centuries in the Catholic Church, Eucharistic miracles, statues crying, incorrupt bodies of saints etc. Read Scripture and start going to Church every Sunday and go to confession and receive The Holy Eucharist where Jesus truly is present and take your medicine, eat well, and exercise and you will see a difference.

I also took buspar for one and a half years and I loved it. I am now on lexapro and have a terrible time with my weight. I'm gonig back on buspar this week. It does help with depression and axiety. I think you have to take a higher does for it to help with depression.

It may take 1 to 3 weeks before the anxiolytic activity of Buspar (http://www.originaldrugs.com/ buspar.shtml) becomes evident. This drug shares some of the properties of the benzodiazepines. Never heard that it may be helpful for depression.

I know that this is an old forum post but I just had to give a response to Maureen. I am a Catholic and I do go to church and confession yet I am plagued with depression and anxiety. Hmmm... so does this mean that I'm not religious enough? Maybe if I play with snakes or whip myself my depression will go away? Saying that the Bible and going to church will fix your brain chemicals is idiotic.
I'll stick with the combo of friends, family, church and wellbutrin/buspar, thanks.
