Pfizer marketed the drug RIMADYL for arthritis to humans but pulled it when it was found to cause death. Pfizer then marketed the same drug to veterinarians for arthritis in dogs and withheld the information that it caused death by liver failure. It also withheld the fact that Labs were 52% were more apt to die from this complication than other breeds. Pfizer has since been forced to release ALL of its findings but not before hundreds of basically healthy dogs have died from liver failure. My own precious baby has liver complications, but thank God not failure, from this drug. I think there should also be culpability on the part of Pfizer to the veterinary community, as well as compensation for loss of companionship to those whose dogs have died and for the medical costs for those whose dogs now have chronic conditions from this drug. Pfizer acted in an irresponsible manner based on greed alone and should be forced to pay for ALL of the damages caused by ALL of the drugs that they marketed in an unethical manner whether for humans or animals, who most of us treat as our children.
