dull headache is the only side effect i experience

I started taking Benicar last year, and a month or so after taking it, My vision changed in my left eye. Everything had a halo over it. At the time I thought it was because I had hit my head in sled riding accident. Stopped taking Benicar cause I couldn't afford it. Started taking it again about 2 months ago. I am now suferring from vertigo and the left side of my face is numb, including the left side of my tongue. I am going to stop it now, and call doc on Monday. I believe it's either Benicar or Coreg. The doc even sent me for MRI incase it was MS

headache has now lasted almost 10 days, doc told me to stop benicar and set me up for an mri, i have been off it for 48 hours now and still have a headache although seems to be getting better, anyone know how long to get out of system

I started benicar 40 mg 3 days ago, and within 3 hrs my pressure dropped to 93/65..I felt like crap the whole day..into the next day. I took half a dose at 630pm the next day and couldnt sleep, tossing and turning..pressure around 102/64. I feel very fatigued and lethargic, legs ache walking up the stairs..IM 50....this isnt right. After reading all these posts, Im going to stop NOW...Thanks everyone!

Can I stop taking Benicar without any problems? I feel the benicar is causing my muscle spasms, and stiff joints, being tired all the time, and causing my head to be very dry and itching.I take 40mg a day. coments please.

check your potassium
This medicine tends to deplete potassium which can cause a lot of the symptoms people are complaining about here.

Drink lots of water and eat potassium enriched foods.

but as it is said here also if your doctor doesn't listen it's time to move on because these side effects are serious if you ask me.

I took Benicar 20 mg for about 18 months, and had good control of my blood pressure. I experienced no side effects I can directly attribute to the drug, but have been constipated fairly consistently (probably due to diet). I was switched to Benicar 40 with 20 HCT when blood pressure was getting out of control. These are significantly cheaper -- go figure. No problems and feel great after 3 daily doses. Benicar works well for me.

I have just been put on Benecar with diaretic. My doctor told me to take potassium to offset the cramps and tingling in my legs. I have some cramping and some tingling but not as bad as it was before the potassium. I get the pills in the health food store because they do not have any additives and I eat several bananas each week. Suggest you try that. Good luck

I had no problems until I took Benicar. I have been off Benicar for 7 months and that's how long it's taken to get back to somewhat normal. I took it for 2 months and developed low back pain and muscle pain, swelling of my left knee joint and left elbow joint. It was unbearable. My doc. told me it was just getting old. I stopped taking it. In just 3 days, after stopping the Benicar, the joint pain subsided and is now gone. However, after 7 months the back pain is almost gone and the muscles in my upper legs still hurt somewhat but not nearly as bad as when I started to take the med. I had none of this b4 I took Benicar.

This is a great website, very informative, and helps to make me feel normal given what everyone else is saying. I started Benicar a week ago, Dr. initially gave me Benicar HCT, bad reactions. Lightheadedness, cramps, racing heart, switched me to regular Benicar. Have been better, but had high BP yesterday, was switched to 40mg instead of 20mg. Seem to be doing better in terms of BP and heart rate, but still feel tingling in left arm, a little tightness in legs, felt some tingling in face about 15 minutes after taking dose. As many have said, seems to do a good job with BP, but are side effects worth it. For those that have long term experience, does it get better or do you just live with these? I am trying to lose weight and change diet, hoping I only need to be on this for a very short period of time.

I have just been taking benicar for 2 days. I feel swelling in my throat. Could that be a side effect of Benicar?

I was so happy when I began Benicar (only 5 mg each morning, along with propranolol) because my BP dropped from the 130's over mid 80s (sometimes going up to 150 over 95)...down to 116/78 or so. But within a very short time I noticed I was tired, falling sleep on the couch, dizzy, nauseated, very anxious, could not eat, and depressed. I have honestly felt as if I had the worst flu or viral bug. I had some back pain but not too bad. But I am not willing to feel this lousy. Today I did not take my Benicar, just the propranolol. Still felt lousy but I noticed I was less dizzy and less nauseated. I would like to hear more about Benicar.
