bactrim allergy

bactrim changed my life forever. In addition to the Stevens-Johnson Syndrome, it also has caused permanent nerve and muscle damage to my lower extremities. I have 4 great kids and am unable to participate in their lives as I was prior to my use of Bactrim. Pain is my constant companion. Bactrim should be illegal in this country as there are many other substitutions available that don't have such serious side effects. Don't take this med!!!!!!~!

Same here with the nerve damage in lower extremities. We should put a law suit on the damn company. I dont take any pain meds every day I just deal with it. BACTRIM SHOULD BE TAKEN OFF THE MARKET.

My daughter also just had a severe reaction to this drug. What were your daughters symptons my could not talk or walk almost like a stroke but within 3 hrs the symptoms were all gone within 3 hrs. They did many test and found nothing and this is the only drug she was taking at the time.

Agreed! Both my mom and me were perscribed this antibiotic for cellulitis, and both of us reacted badly. Mom ended up in the hospital with kidney trouble and severe dehydration due to it. She was hosptialized for 4 days.

I didn't realize what was happening to me was a reaction until after I was finnished taking it. I started acting very strangely, then got a unexplainable rash all over my body, with fever and chills. I was on day 8 when this started so I didn't think it was a reaction, I thought I was just going crazy, then I looked it up, and it was a reaction.

Have had a horrible reaction to Bactrim. Started with loss of appetite, body aches and headaches within a week of taking Bactrim. Progressed into fever and the chills by a week and a half but just thought I had the flu. After taking Bactrim for 13 days I started breaking out with hives on my face, neck and chest which later spread to my arms and legs. I was diagnosed with an allergic reaction to Bactrim, pumped full of iv fluids, steroids and anti-histamines once they figured out what was going on. I had a fever of 101-102 for over 4 days. I was dehydrated and had a low white blood cell count. I'll be taking oral steroids and anti-histamines for 5-6 days. Such a horrible experience, I'll be glad when I won't be on any more of these medications!

I had taken Bactrim for years....then went to the doctor last week and they gave it to me for a lung infection and took one..5 minutes later started vomiting, then hives.They said it was a allergic reaction...My dad started taking it at the same time as me for a different infection, Then one week later became very ill with a rash all over,fever,vomiting..They think it might be Steven Johnsons...They don't know yet...I think it is weird that my dad and I both had a reaction in the same week...I think they should take it off the market.
