side effects

I have been considering Avodart for 12 months now. But I continue to be concerned about side effects, including decline in sex drive, breast enlargement, and dizzy spells. Comments on these appreciated.

I have been on Avodart for almost a year. My breasts have enlarged but its not enough to be concerned about. My sex drive has decreased, but with help from my spouse I do get aroused and do get an erection....and can maintain the erection through the sex act. Just to let you know the advantage of taking Avodart is probably something you need to do.

I took Avodart for about 6 weeks and quickly found that I had fairly severe overall body aches, especially in the kidney area. These effects went away as soon as I stopped taking it. I haven't heard of these being reported as side effects, but I'm pretty sure they were related. I didn't notice any significant decrease in sex drive, nor did I notice any enlargement in my breasts.

I have been experiencing severe anxiety after taking avodart for about a month. has anyone else had that problem. I had been feeling fine until I started taking the avodart. Now I seem to be anxious over everything.

I have been taking it for 3 months, no hair growth..I took Proscar for 7 years...no growth but my hair did not fall out
either as much as my brother who is 8 years my junior.
I am now getting severe hamstring pain in my right leg.
I do NOT know if it is related and cannot seem to get enough information to find out.

I have been on avodart for 2+ years and have not had any side effects. It has controlled (relieved) the BPH problem

I have been taking Avodart for about one week and now experience pain in the groin area on the right side. I have no way of knowing if it is related but if the pain continues, I will discontinue taking it and see what happens.

I have taken it for few days and started having more slowness and difficulty ejacualting. Is this usual or typical with Avodart?

Have you had any experience or professional input about not taking Avodart everyday?
What happens if you take it every second day? Or in other non everyday regoment?

I am wondering the same thing. The study I saw was a 25% reduction in the size of the prostate, but this was based on taking the drug for 4 years. Here I thought my workouts were getting me bigger pecs, now I find it could be Avodart.

I have been taking Avodart for a year. It has controlled the sudden urges, getting up several times a night and has made life better. The side effects are also dramatic. My sex drive has decreased, my lubrication has decreased, and it is much more difficult to reach climax. Many times I don't make it. A real downer. My urologist does not offer any suggestions. I just have to accept it he says. I don't know if it is connected but I am having pain in the groin area, right side, more in the leg. I just thought I had strained my leg. Not sure now after reading other comments here.

I took avodart for 3 months, and immediately developed an anal discharge. Been off the drug for one week and the discharge has diminished considerably.

I guess if it were me I would talk to doctor first!!! Let him/her measure the results/etc.

After taking Avodart for about two months, I find that my ability to urinate completely has improved. I still feel above average urges to urinate often immediately. I haven't experienced any sexual problems with erections. If anything, I think that my ability to sustain an erection after ejaculation has increased. Even the ability to obtain an erection might have increased. I am experiencing either muscle or tendon tenderness at the top of my thigh and in the groin area. I have difficulty at times bringing my knee up toward my chest either in the upright or prone position. This problem seems to disappear at times and may be connected with when I take the Avodart. I also am 64 years old and do Nordic Trak regularly along with stretches. I also golf but it does not seem to affect my swing. When I try to do leg lifts I experience increased pain in the general area of the groin up toward the hip. When I talked to my pharmacist and a doctor, neither indicated that there should be any effect on the muscles or joints of the legs due to the Avodart; however, in reading other feedbacks here, there may be some connection after all.

I have been on avodart for about a year or so and I dont think it is really helping, and the side effects are bothersome like I cant sleep a full night, I wake up in so much bladder or side pain it is very bad. The pain seems to go away when I get up. I spoke with my Dr. about this and he does not seem to believe it is from the avodart.If anyone has any input it would be helpful please write me at [e-mail] please put avodart in the subject line.

I am getting the same pains on the left side I cant sleep all night long cause the pain is so bad, but when I get up the pain goes away. I had a kidney removed on that side and I dont know which it is related to.

I spoke with my doctor yesterday. He said it sounded as if I strained muscles or tendons in my legs and that I should stop my Nordic Trak workouts; however, he also said to stop the Avodart for another week and see what happens. He said to also take an anti-inflammatory. I took two Alleve last night before bedtime. I slept well and do not have much pain in my legs this morning. I have an appointment to see my doctor if things do not improve. Note: I have been posting messages on this site regularly since I first read that others seem to have body aches of some sort.

I took Avodart for about three years. Reduced my enlarged prostate to the point that I have stopped taking it. It did lessen my sex drive and ability to maintain an errection. Stopped ejaculating upon climax completely during the time. Also, orasams were not as intent or pleasurable. Sometimes had trouble with maintaining an errection. Put up with all these side effects to avoid surgery. Just recently resumed ejaculating (after being off the drug for about 10 mos. and ejaculation is slightly painful. Also, oragasm is not intense or pleasurable at all. Hoping this will change. Again, put up with all this to not have one of the various surgeries or procedures that are used to reduce prostate size.
Anyone else with similar experiences?
