Avodart Side Effects

After reading all the comments about retro or no ejaculation from Flomax, I'd like to recommend this. I had the same problem on Flomax. Went to generic Hytrin and all the ejacualation problems disappeared but still have all the good affects on flow and frequency. It's also much cheaper as it is generic. They start you off with a low dosage but build up to 10 mg per day to get the full clinical affect for bph.

I took avodart for 2 months straight (July-August 2007).
I stopped taking it after developing severe pain in the penis whenever having an erection.
The condition still exists aproximately 6 weeks after stopping the medication.
I would be interested if anubody else experienced this.

yes, i have taken both for a year, the seem complimentary.

Problems,problems,problems...
breasts grew large like a woman, semen disappeared, ED, libido was gone, retrograde ejaculation, weight gain...turning me into a flabby woman...you will lose your male testosterone!
The worst thing...it didn't help my BPH symptoms.
Forget it!

I been taking avodart for about 2 years. I have not noticed the symptoms others have noted here, such as headaches, pain, in legs etc.
However, i have had extreme gas(flatulance) situation develop over past 6 months or so. i believe this may be related. Has anyone experienced anything similar?

Not sure if its the avodart but have had pain and stiffness in my upper leg muscles -- mostly near the groin but all around. I'm a cyclist and it seems to be aggravated by exercise. Was on for 30 days. Am going off to see if that helps.

AGE 61 I to am having what seems to be the standard sexual complaints by others...ed...low or no ejacualtion...less full orgasms...been on Avodart a year now...has anyone tried one of these semen volumnizers such as semenax...they are basically a herb cocktail in a pill that is supposed to increase your semen output...will they be contra to what I'm trying to accomplish with avodart?...thanx for any advice

I just found out that my PSA test is 7.94. I'v e been on avodart for the last 10 days. Can the drug cause the increase in PSA ?

Actually, Avodart is supposed to reduce psa in half. Mine runs about 3.5 to 5 when on Avodart.
My understanding is that it is the change over time in PSA rather than the actual number that is important.

Off avodart for almost 2 weeks and the pain is almost gone. I am not a doctor but after some study the symptoms at least appear to mimic osteitis pubis -- a very painful disorder that can be caused by injury or infection and that causes muscle pain at the insertions near the pubic bone. Could it be the effect people with a rapid change in the prostate can have inflamation of the pubic bone or that chronic bacterial prostatis spreads when the prostate starts to shrink? I also reduced my biking for 3 days because of heavy rain so I am going back on in 2 weeks to see what happens. If the pain returns I will see my doctor and contact the manufacturer, GSK, and make a post here.

Tried it in 2001....was useless but easy to go through. Immediate side effect was swelling of the prostate and had to go to hospital for catherization.

has anyone gone trough laser surgery and found that the tissue has grown back. I was told the other day that another surgery is needed.

i'm looking for alternatives to another laser procedure or a traditional TURP. Any thoughts!

Avodart .5 mg. Been on it about 1 1/2 years. Experiencing some ED. No ejaculate. Feels awful at climax. Doc put me on Flomax as well. I stopped taking it after 30 days. PSA down to 1.7 from over 5. No history of prostate C. However I've had enlarged prostate for years. It is normal but quality of life is not. 61 years of age and desire is there to be normal again. Avodart may be worse than the illness, or so my body tells me. Next appointment will talk to Doc about coming off.

I have been taking Avodart for about 2 months while have taken Flomxt for several years. I had no descernable side effects from the Flomax, but recently I've experienced considerable muscle pain in my hips and lower back.

I had turp three years back but prostrate grew back. I have been taking Avodart. ED and less sexual desire. lot of gases. Not very much improvement in urination difficulty.

I have been taking Avodar for 2 months now and not a thing has changed, Still going to bathroom 3 or 4 stings. I wonder how long it takes to kick in

Jim, I hope you're taking an alpha blocker like hytrin cause that will help you the first day you take it whereas Avodart may take 6 months and like me never make any difference. Go for the alpha blocker. That's hytrin, flomax and others. Hytrin is generic, cheap and less side affects for me than flomax. 10mg per day is the clinical trial amount. They will start you on less but build up to 10 if you need it.

I have followed my doctor's advice. I discontinued my exercise, other than golfing, and went back on Avodart. I have had good days and bad days with my legs. Today is a bad day. I started taking Avodart in August and in September I srarted having severe pain in my right hip joint. I could barely walk. I thought it was because of my age (66) but I've always been very active. I started taking Aleve and that has helped.I didn't bother to call my doctor as I thought he would put me on pain med. anyway. I awoke two days ago and right away it hit me about the Avodart. I looked online and immediately read about others having the same problem. I stopped taking the drug immediately. Be careful with this drug! Be prepared to read more about this in the future.

I may have had the same problem and also experienced shingles and they're slowly going away. I quite Avodart and generally feel better. I tried Flomax and it blurred my vision, made me weaker, and gave me back pains but it did seem to work to decrease my frequency of urination and help my ED.
