Avodart Side Effects

I am 50 years old, and I have been taking Avodart for almost two years. I have been experiencing many of the side effects listed in this forum (e.g. reduced libido, semen volume, back pain).

I lift weights, and I am fairly muscular. However, I seem to notice a decrease in muscle mass lately. In addition, I have more body hair than average men. Though, I have noticed a non-gradual decrease in chest, back, arm, and leg hair.(Though, the hair on my head and face is normal.)

I have not read anything relating Avodart to my symptoms. But, it seems that anything affecting testorone might be consistent with them.

I would appreciate reading about anyone other experiences similar to mine. I had a blood test recently, and my testosterone level was "normal".

I told my doctor that I was unhappy with the side effects of this drug, and permission was granted for me to stop taking it for a while.

I've taking Avodart and Uroxitrol combined for over a year. The only side affects I can attribute to the medication is moderate ED, lack of intense feeling when ejaculating and low semen output. I am 67 but it bothers me quite a bit. I am going to seek alternative treatments. I did stop taking it for about five days and was getting up to urinate every hour so, I went back on it immediately.

My partner is currently taking Avodart and has been for several months. We have decided to try to have a baby and were wondering if anyone has attempted or have had problems getting their wife/partner pregnant? BTW, his only side effect is less semen upon ejaculation. However, after reading everyone's posts to this site, I suspect his back pain could be a side effect of Avodart. Though he has had some back pain in the past, it is worse now and seems to be worse upon waking in the morning where before, a night's sleep seemed to alleviate the back pain he was experiencing during the day.

I have been on Avodart and Flomax for about 2 and 1/2 months. Previously Flomax every other day because it was making me feel so weak. When my prostate hit 93 on the richter scale I was given Avodart. For a while I was feeling a lot of discomfort in my scrotum, I attributed those feelings to the prostate. Now, I have painful erections and produce little or semen. I have not experienced any of the other side effects noted on this forum, but am concerned. I am 57 and pretty active, but my sex life is "ain't what it used to be" type stuff and while I know the age thing plays a role, this seems a little unsatisfactory. I don't know if this treatment is worth it. My wife suggest natural treatments. What is this Procsenat all about?

I have been on Avodart and Flomax for over 2 months after Flomax only for about two years. The Flomax was making me very weak. After a month of Avodart, I start feeling tugging pains in the scrotum. I think they are related to the recduction of my prostate as it hit the richter scale at 93 in May 07. Now I have painful erections and little or no semen. My sex life is not terrific for a 57 year old. I was wondering about the natural cures for enlarged prostate, someone mentioned Procsenat. Any more information about this?

I am taking Avodart and Flomax after being catherized 5 times. The main thing I notice is that my sexual climax sensation is reduced. Also the seminal fluid is more liquid and the quanity is reduced. Erections are not a problem. I am almost 72 years old.

After going throught these comments I am wondering whether to start taking Flomax and avodart together..I am leaning toward a natural treatment. The thing is I don't have the standard symptoms of enlarged prostate I have had a urinary track infection and I'm immediatly put on these drugs? I don't know

Since these symptoms appeared after six months on Avodart and not before with just the Flomax, I am discontinuing the Avodart temporarily to see if the arm ache subsides. Then I'll introduce the Avodart again and see if the arm ache again appears. If so, I'll drop the avodart for good. Has anyone experienced any actual heart-related issues since taking Avodart?

I was on Avodart for one month but had rawness or burning problems [either, or] inside the prostate area. Doctor did not know what the cause is ,as all side effects that are listed on the avodart pamplet did not show the one I was having. Now I wait, based on doctor
orders to stop taking avodart, to see if the problem goes away. I did not have the problem until starting avodart.Any comments?

I have been taking Avodart for 2 months. For about the same time, I have noticed a shortness of breath, which is listed as an infrequent possible side effect. Has anyone had a similar experience?

My partner has been taking Avodart for 5+ months, and within the last month, he has been having headaches almost every day. How do yours feel? He said his feels like a vice-grip on his forehead. He takes sinus meds, so we do not think that sinus is the problem. He already was concerned about an increasing midsection, though he works out 4-5 times per week, very actice as a patrol deputy, and has not changed his diet - in fact, is eating less because of the increasing midsection, but still, weight gain. He gets up less often at night to urinate, but overall, his urine flow has always been good during the day; no different with avodart (before or after). We are beginning to wonder if this is worth all of the side effects. His libido has NOT been affected; NEITHER has erectile function, ejaculation pain or orgasm intensity been affected. However, ejaculate volume has decreased dramatically. His mouth has a "tingling" sensation, if that relates to the burning sensation that some of the other gentlemen have experienced, I am not sure. He has a lot of aches and pains, but he is 64 years old, so that comes with the territory.

So Ted, and everyone, please let me know if you have had headaches, as this has become a concern because he has never had problems with headaches.

I'm 59 and have been on Avodart for a year. Reading everybody's comments I'm beginning to think that some of my problems are related to the Avodart. I realize the old body will change with age but the ED I've been experiencing is horrible - loss of sex drive and inability to get and maintain an erection. Ejaculate is sometimes okay and other times nothing. Prostate is growing in an asymetrical pattern and the ultrasound measurement was about "31". At the 6 mos. checkup after starting Avodart the size was guessed to be about "15". Doctor thought we should try to control the growth. Never really had to get up during the night and I'm wondering if I should try to get off this drug. My PSA is about 3. Rx is up for renewal so I'm off to the Dr.

i have been on this avodart for 14 days and after reading the side effects i have also notice loss of energy,sexual drive and most of all confusion with thinking. I have numbness of the head and legs and out of breath.

Because the prostate tissue is shrinking and less tissue means less fluid. This side effect seems to be classic with Avodart although most men notice decreased seminal fluid not complete absence. Each human is unique and side effects on one may not occur on another (eg. penicillin would kill my wife but my life has been saved by the same substance).

Adovart is terrible. When I ejaculated it hurt. My sex drive decreased and i got intense stomach pains.I am a 22 year old male. I am not saying don't take the drug but for me the side effects wern't worth try to grow my hair back.

i was on flowmax for a short time, i am a mechanic. getting up and down from under buses did my blood pressue in, all most passed out. now i need to try something else but avadart does not sound well either
