I agree with you a 100%. This Drug can Kill you, it not only reduces the muscles in the prostate, it also reduces all your muscles, including the Heart muscle, what I first notice, was I had trouble swallowing. Took me 3 weeks, before I got back to normal, there certainly should be a class action suite, to get it off the market.

I started taking Avodart for BPH. After 5 days, I began to have problems starting urination which I never had before. I told the urologist and he said to continue it. I continued for 8 more days and the starting urination got so bad that I was in severe pain. I stopped taking Avodart on the 14th day. After 2 days without Avodart, the problem started to ease. It has now been 4 days without Avodart and starting urination has greatly improved. It seems to improve each day and eventually I hope it will return to pre-Avodart where I never once had starting urination issues, just the other BPH symptoms.

I have been on Avadart for years and recently stopped taking it. I was having lots of joint and muscle pain. Nothing huge but always nagging and painful. I stopped 2 weeks ago and I feel soooooo much better. Joint and muscle pain is gone. The drug is highly toxic. Urination has not changed as far as I can tell. I'm still getting up 3 or 4 times per night.

Have a very large prostate and I've been on Avodart for 2 weeks. Can't sleep at night; up every two hours. Feel urgent need to urinate but can't produce any urine. It goes away after I get up and go about my daily routine. This is not one of the listed side effects and I will contact my doctor. Anyone else experience this?

ok...so my husband takes avodart and I wanted to find out what it was for. He told me "prostate health". When we first started dating/having sex, all was well. Now that he's taking avodart regularly, there are differences. He used to sleep with an erection. Not now. He used to be all over me. Not now. His legs hurt. He's tired/weak all the time. Rests quite often. Looks bloated (even working out everyday). Seems to have little semen, softer erection, and would rather watch tv than lay with me. We haven't even been together a year yet. I'm worried.

Flomax for 4 yrs, just started taking Avodart, no side effects yet. Will keep you posted! William L wrote: I've been taking Flomax for a couple of years and it works well. However I experience side effects including ED and low seamon production. I have Avadart samples from my doc but I'm reluctant to start them in conjunction with the Flomax. Anyone have any experience taking both meds?

In Sept 04 I had open heart surgery to repair a mitral valve defect I have had since a child. I was put on Avodart in June 06 and in Sept 06 Besavar (alfuzosin) was added. I noticed I was becoming breathless on the slightest exertion, a worry with my heart history. Also pains in hips and legs and a general feeling I was about to die sme time very soon. 3 days ago after consulting doctor I stopped both meds and all symptoms have gone. Go figure!! Hi I just turned 61 and have been using Avodart about 3 years. Just within last 6 months or so also been feeling short of breath at slight exertion. May have to discontinue use. Other than that no side effects.

I have been taking Avodart for about 3 months. I started to notice that nothing tastes very good. Everything is bland. Beer has a particularly bad taste, especially the first few sips.Almost like raw garlic. I can't tell the difference between good wine and b ad wine at all. Almost like raw garlic. Coffee has a bad taste and smell to it too. I am not experiencing the burned mouth sensation. Phil B Rockwall TX wrote: I previously posted the side effect of a sudden loss of taste and my question as to whether it might be attributed to a new prescription of AVODART which I had just started taking. I contacted my primary physician, my dentist, my colon-rectal specialist, my urologist and my pharmacist. Each thought it unlikely the prescription drug AVODART would cause the symptoms I was experiencing. My mouth felt raw and like I had burned it on too hot a cup of coffee and therefore no taste. As if that was not bad enough, beer and wine tasted like I could only imagine paint thinner would taste. Well, I quit taking AVODART and within a week my taste returned and my mouth was it's "old self". I continued researching my symptoms and found an article in the August 2006 Mayo Clinic Health Newsletter on "burning mouth syndrome" (where your mouth feels like it had been burned by a hot liquid or hot food). The article said that the symptom "may be linked to several medical conditions ...(including)... hormonal imbalances". AVODART as you know is a hormone based drug developed to shrink the prostate gland over time. My feeling is that AVODART contained enough hormones to "imbalance" me and hence was the cause of my symptoms. Just thought you would want to know in case this comes up with any others taking AVODART.

Have had nagging pain in my left elbow joint for a few months now, with no events to explain the pain....at first I thought it might be some sort of tendon issue from using my computer, but I know now that that is not the cause.... I've been on Avodart for about 3 years....anyone else experienced mysterious joint pain?

These were my symptoms BEFORE taking the Avodart. Just started on it. But I find that taking ONE ADVIL before I go to bed lets me sleep right thru the night about 80% of the time (not always). Don't know why, and don't care, but it has worked for me for months. Still have the same early-morning symptoms as you. Will see if the Avodart makes any difference.

My Dr said to take Flomax + Avodart for another 3 months and discontinue Flomax to see if my prostate has shrunk. I go to a clinic in Seattle that has one of the best urology depts in the nation.

Sure seems like more problems reported then what the research indicated in the research trial results on the GX website. My Dr. just started me on Advodart for enlarged prostrate causing frequent urination at night. She would only give me a 3 month supply to see if there are any bad side affects. I am going on 64 yrs old. I'll drop the drug like a hot potato if I get some of the posted adverse affects and just continue to get up at night. There must be a large number of people not experiencing problems but I guess they would have not had reason to post. It is concerning to see so many negative side affects.

I've been taking Avodart for about a month now. I have noticed a decrease in my libido and indeed my semen production is significantly down. No breast issues (thank God!). I do have pain in my testicles from time to time, this worries me. I'm taking Flomax in conjuntion with the Avodart. My next appointment with my urologist is in September. I have a healthy sexual appetite and don't want these drugs to change that. I'm 58 and in good health, could stand to lose a few pounds, but otherwise everything else ok. I continue to research natural remedies and will check out Frank from Toronto's Arnica suggestion. Arnica does indeed work well as an antinflammatory.

I have been taking Avodart for six months. I wish my doctor had preparded me for the shock of the decrease in semen and decreased duration when I ejaculate. I go back to my doctor in a few weeks and we will be looking at other options.

Larry Aside from the semen/ejaculate problems, has the Avodart helped you? I've been on it for a couple of months...before I took Avodart, I was on Hytrin and that also decreased semen and sex drive. So it's hard for me to tell if the Avodart is contributing, but I'm more concerned with the urination problems. Since I've been on Avodart, I would say I've been doing about 40% better than before, with the worst of it being in the AM upon awakening.

I was diagnosed with prostate cancer about in January of this year and have opted for watchful waiting, with my PSA checked every 3 months. A doctor in one of our cancer hospitals said that if this was my option that one of the studies that he is presently doing uses provantex which has lycopene, vitamin D , green tea , selenium, etc. Another doctor in another hospital recommended i take flomax in conjunction with Avodart. I am presently taking the three but have noticed a significant amount of pain in the knees. My main concern is that my PSA will not mean much since Avodart reduces the PSA levels so the only true way of finding real results is with a biopsy.

My dr said to stop Flomax after 3 months and see if anything changes. I did stop for 1 day because I wanted to have sex with my wife and was able to ejaculate well. The only symptom I had from stoping Flomax was more urgency to go and the "pause" before going. Will continue both for awhile. No side affects for me.
