Avodart Side Effects

I was taking Proscar for a couple of years with no problems but my doctor switched me to Avodart, I started last Saturday and on Wednesday I started to get abdominial pain and it has carried on through Thursday, my abdomin is also extended.

Anybody have similiar type of a problem?

I've been on Avodart since last August with no problems other than problems with erections. But, what the hey, I'm 76 going on 77

I was taking Proscar and had problems with it. I have been taking Avodart for about 5 months now and have experienced the same pain in the abdomen area and like bloating feeling. I had reduced my diet and started exercising, but no reduction. I discontinued Avodart recently and have notice a big difference. No more bloated feeling. I am in my mid 40's. Hope this helps!

One week update.

I have followed my doctor's advice. I discontinued my exercise, other than golfing, and went back on Avodart. I have had good days and bad days with my legs. Today is a bad day. I am experiencing that pain again in my ypper thigh, closest to the hip. Also soreness, stiffness or pain behind my knees.
No adverse sexual side effects.
Urination is easier.
I will continue taking the Avodart for a while and hope that the leg problems go away. My doctor said that if the leg problems persist, he will refer me to an orthopedic doctor.
Again, I am 64 years old. However, I did not have these leg problems prior to taking Avodart.

I have been taking Avodart for a month now and I am not experiencing any side effects YET. But when I ejaculate it hursts I am not sure of this is a side effect from the drug or something else is developing in that area. Does anyone else experience this. My next appointment with my doc is not till July 06.

I too am experiencing a slight bloated feeling in the abdomin. I'm also experiencing my genetals pulling up tight like when I swim in cold water (shrinkage). I have only been on advodart for a week, so I'm hoping the symptoms go away. Having no sexual side effects so far. Prior, I was taking Flomax, but experienced Prostititus discomfort at times, so my GP doc put me on Advodart. I have an appt with a urologist on June 6th and am waiting to see what he says.

Started to notice side effects and STOPPED Avodart. I was taking it daily for a month. I am 51 and in good shape.

What's happened in the interim, Ron? I think your physician is very wise in referring you on to a specialist.

I have been taking Avodart for about 3 weeks. I had read preivous comments, so I was looking for changes. What I am experiencing is the yellowing of my finger nails and the skin around the nails. I am a 70 yr old Black American with an enlarge prostrate gland. Any comment would be welcome.

I've had no side effects w/ Avodart. It's helped after 3 weeks.
Heard anything good about any of the microwave procedures to shrink the prostate, such as TUNA? [e-mail]

Yes, I experience painful ejaculation from time to time, but have never gotten a urologist to seem concerned about it. Of all the drugs, I've had the best results with Avodart - sensitivity during ejaculation has returned.

I have only been taking Avodart for 10 days and my only side effect has been itching nipples:^(
I am curious about the effect this med will have on muscle mass and if the reduction in testosterone will effect personality.

I've been taking Flomax for a couple of years and it works well. However I experience side effects including ED and low seamon production. I have Avadart samples from my doc but I'm reluctant to start them in conjunction with the Flomax. Anyone have any experience taking both meds?

Hey Frank, I also have experiencd excruciating ejaculations but it was not from the Avadart. It was caused by the enlargement of the prastate which constricts the blood vessels. After the 4th month of Avadart those symptoms went away although I am have dry ejaculations due to the decrease in semen production. However I am concerned because I read that if you stop taking avadart the prostate could enlarge quickly and cause major problems later on. I am wondering now will I have to continue taking this drug indefinitely? Does anyone else heard about this?

I've been on Avodart for a couple of months and have gained about 8-10 lbs (6'2", now 210 lbs), despite not changing my daily routine or food intake. Could be that the drug causes me to retain water, but I can't find that listed under any side effects. Anyone else having this problem?

After taking Avodart for approximately three months, I came down with a case of shingles. I have had them for about two months, but they are not completely cured as yet. I do not believe they were caused by Avodart, but it could have been a contributing factor.

The site www.mayoclinic.com has a great section on enlarged prostate. A procedure called PVP, which is a laser technique, appears to be the best procedure with the fewest side effects. You may want to check it out.

I have totally stopped taking Adovart and I did a lot of research on the net and found that taking ARNICA MONTANA 30C helped me a lot. Matter of factI do not urinate as often and sleep all through the nite. You can get ARNICA from any Health Sore and all you do is follow the instructions on the pack or you can dissolve 5 granulets in 500ml bottled water and sip that 3 times daily and it works. You should get relief within a few hours.
