Stopping Avodart

I have been taking Avodart for at least three years and my BPH symptoms have largely gone away. I am wondering if I can stop taking Avodart. Anyone have experience with stopping Avodart? Did BPH symtoms re-appear? If so, how long did it take?

My urologist said that the pharmaceutical rep. told him that it has the same effect whether you take it every day or every other day. Verify that with you doctor before you make a change.

muning444.....says who? My Dr. told me exactly the same thing. So I called the Mfg's 800 number and talked with their AVODART specialist.(She) gives a different answer, and I recommend that you all call and ask her ANY question you want. Not being a "shill" for GSK, I actually expected her to say that it was a LIFE requirement. But the answer I got was NO.

I have been taking Avodart for Three years (5mg per day) and decided Five weeks ago to stop taking it. I am enjoying an improvement in my condition.

I took 5mg Dutasteride a day for over a year. Within 10 days the side effects had hit hard, all were to do with my bodies sexual functions. As the BPH symptoms reduced so much I decided to stop taking the drug. It took around six months before the side effects subsided although I'm still not back to normal! However the BPH symptoms are coming back so I guess I will have to start taking it again soon. Looks like I will be doing one year on and one year off.

Even taking 50 mgs of Viagra on an empty stomach and I am useless. I am thinking about stopping taking Avodart. I get more relief taking one Advil before I go to bed. It cuts my times up to once vs 2-3. Avodart has really not helped me at all. Any thoughts?

I had all the usual symptoms related to the prostate enlargement: frequency, urgency, weak
stream etc. Strangely I never got up at nite.

So I started to take Avodart per my doctor.
My prostate continues to shrink and my PSA is
reduced. BUT..... I never found that Avodart
helped reduce ANY OF THE SYMPTOMS.... No help
at all. I stopped taking the Avodart and so
far, I have NONE of the symptoms ??????????
