I've read through all the posts and have this question:
How bad is it to take Ativan (1mg) once per week at best? I only take it when my anxiety gets really really bad. Honestly I think I wait too long to take it but I try to hold out until the last moment. I've been prescribed Celexa (citalopram) also but have not started taking that. Any thoughts on that would be welcome as well. |

I'm new here.. i'm Lauren everybody :) If you are not prescribed I don't reccomend taking it. I take 2mg a day to help my anxiety (I have it bad, and it runs in my family) It was that or Xanex so I chose Ativan. It calms my anxiety and nervousness and prevents the panic attacks I would often get. It is fine to take if you're prescriped by the doctor & you actually need it. Not a drug you want to take if you don't need it, very addictive. Same with Xanex.. Just be careful if you do.

I agree. 10mg a day? That's just a perfect example of abuse. I highly doubt your doctor said to take 10mg a day. I'm taking 2-3 my a day just until my 100mg a day of zoloft kicks in. Then I'm weening off of the ativan. Probably 1-2mg a day, then less over a month

No I haven't taken that much ever. There's no reason to take that much

I took ativan with lexapro for panic attacks. The ativan was hard to get off cause it is heavily addicting. It's very relaxing if you're a person with anxiety issues.

I have been diagnosed with postpartu anxiety/insomnia. I have been taking Ativan for my anxiety/insomnia after the birth of my daughter in July. I take it 3x's a day at .5mg. It has helped tremedously. I am worried about addiction since that seems to be a big problem with Ativan from what I've read. I have been on it for 1 1/2 months and I have a follow up appt with my GP on Dec 1st. How long would you have to be taking it to become addicted?
