I have taken atenolo 25 mgm. for app . 2 years. last summer I becan to notice my hands cracking and peeling. I finally was diagnosed with psoriasis. Soon the bottom of my feet began cracking and peeling, too and now I have psoriasis on my arms, legs and now starting on my mid back. I have been under th care of a dermotologist, reciving uv RX, many crams and ointments to no avail. My concern is I am 76 years old and have never had this problem until last summer. I recently saw an article that atenololmight cause psoriasis. Has any other patient had this problem. I am an RN, I am active and for years have takenn swim exercise 2 to 3 x a week and now can no longer go to the pool because of visible skin disease. Comments please! Sheila

I'm 38 and started taking Atenolol for HBP and migraines. About 6 months later I started developing psoriasis on my scalp, and it's gotten progressively worse (but only on my scalp). Does anyone know if I stop taking Atenolo, do you think the psoriasis will improve or go away? Does anyone have any experience in that situation? Thanks!

I too have been taking atenolol for several yrs. about 1 yr ago i had the same thing, on my feet & hands, nothing helps, its so awful! I am going to ask for another type of bp pill and also i take folbic tablet , it too seems to have something to do with this problem. so am going to stop it also. i am so happy to hear your comment. i was so lost, usually i can figure out what is wrong and what to do about it, but this has me stumped. sometimes my feet hand will crack open hurt so bad so afraid of infection, i started wwearing sneakers sock on feet and it helped some, but stress really makes it worse. keep me posted and thanks again!

I have taken atenolol 25 mg. for about three years. About a year ago I had a small scaly and itchy patch on my scalp that lasted for months. I used T-gel shampoo until it was gone. But about 8 months ago I started to have more patches like that all over my scalp. I have now been diagnosed with psoriasis. I also have it on my elbows and on tiny spots on different parts of my body. My dermatologist gave me a shampoo and some ointment that have not helped. She did mention that it might be caused by the atenolol and the next step will be to have my regular doctor change my medication within the next few weeks. I'll post the results if improvement occurs.

OMG! I can't believe that I found this. I have been on atenolol now for 4 years. I am 38 years old never had psoriasis until I started this medication. Usually psoriasis appears when you are a child or in your early 20's. So for me to be in my mid 30's and just develop out of no where it has to be this medication. I have been trying creams that a dermatologist prescribed but to no avail. I even have developed 2 seperate kinds of psoriasis. Plaque which is the most common and now I have developed inverse psoriasis. this is even worse than the palque was. I went to the DR yesterday and told him I can't do it anymore. He put me on Benicar. We will see if my psoriasis will go away now.

I have been taking atenolol for 20 years, but have just developed psoriasis in the last year.
My doctor says the atenolol has nothing to do with it. I have also tried numerous creams to no avail. The doctor says my case is not bad enough for injections or UV treatment. I don't know what else to do.

Its interesting to read your comment. I thought I was just falling apart. Istarted taking Atenelol 50 mg. twice a day. it hasn't helped my blood pressure at all, but I have developed Psoriasis on my eyebrows, elbows, now on my legsand is starting on my knuckles. I have never had these kind of problems in my life. As a young person my skin was very oily, and I didn't start to dry out until my late 50's. I am now 64. I stopped taking Atenelol about five days ago, and can see an improvement.

I have been on Atenelol since I was 25 for HBP. I am now 36. I started on 25 mg and thats when I noticed my first plaque. My dosage has been bumped up several times to 100 mg. I now look back and each time my dose was increased my psoriasis got worse. Has anyone had this problem and changed to another med with success. As you all know psoriasis is more of a headache than anything!!!!

When did you first start noticing it? It is so subtle. I was on Atenelol for about 3 months at least before I started noticing it. Then I didn't realize it was Atenelol until I ruled everything out. It just gradually got worse and worse until I couldn't stand it any longer.
