I have been reading some posts, and I have to say I must be lucky in that I had no side effects, no joint pain, etc., whatsoever. For the first 3 1/2 years, I gained little to no weight, but had a whopping 25 pounds come on in the last 18 months of taking the pill, which I stopped in May.
I have not been able to lose the weight, and I know it's the pill that made me gain it, as I had a gastric bypass 11 years ago, and had never changed my eating amounts or what I eat, nor ever gained a bit of weight in 9+ years. I am sick about this. It has affected me horribly, as I now feel so bad about myself that I am on the verge of becoming a hermit. I find myself isolating more and more from my friends and the public in general, as my disdain for going up two sizes has made me hate the way I look. |

Sophie,
Don't let the weight gain get to you. I too have a serious mental issue with being overweight, but I have found that you (as I was) will find yourself in a downward spiral. Don't you dare sit at home ... the more you do that, the less active you will be and the more weight you will gain and the lazier you get. You are a special woman to be at this 5 year mark and be able to write about it. Hold you head high, put on that RED HAT and get out and have a good time. Anyone that doesn't understand you doesn't deserve you anyway. Look around, there are more "heavy people" that there are skinny ones. Best of luck. |

I think that following the Professor Plant Cancer diet, which is basically a dairy free diet has helped me to keep the weight off and also made me feel that I am taking responsibilty for my own health. Although my oncologist is ambivalent about this diet another eminent oncologist has leant his support. You need to ensure that you have sufficient calcium of course.

I'm 56 and have been on it for 2 years, 9 mos; also gained 20 lbs. Weight was never a concern before, and now I'm eating less than I was and am still active-hate to see if I wasn't. I worry about how much more I will gain as I have familial high cholesterol and a family history of heart disease (not to mention how uncomfortable I am with the added weight) |

I, too, have gained weight since being on Arimidex. I have a mainly plant based diet--not really any sweets or "junk" food. Exercise most everyday. I am approaching the 5 year mark and wanted to get some feedback as to what others are doing regarding this. I have seen some stopping but seems others are continuing. |
