I am ordered to do the same , have you found out anything about being able to drink and take anabuse? I am not an alcholic, i am a social drinker, and I don't believe the courts have a right to tell me that I need to take a drug that in the long run will harm my body more than alchol will ...but it is either that or go to jail and that is aload of crap..any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated...even a way to start to fight the system on this matter ...last time i checked this was america and we had right s here didn't we??? |

If the two of you are actually court ordered to take antabuse, maybe you should take it to heart instead of trying to keep drinking. Alcohol has obviously contributed to your being in front of a judge. When you make poor desisions that affect the rest of society, someone else has to step in and intervene. If you can't stop drinking for the time period the court wants you to, believe me...you have a problem! What's the big deal, if your just a social drinker, stop for a while. I am so curious to know what happened for the judge to order that. If you don't want to say...at least YOU think about it.

The judge I went in fron of was apprantley having a bad day that day. I don't need to STOP drinking because she told me that is what her decision is.... I don't want to take this drug anabuse because of many reasons, noit just the not being able to drink...for one it DESTROYS your liver worse than if you were an alcholic....he has terrible side effects as very bad headaches nad makes you very tires and confused, and that is without drinking on it....I DON"T NEED TO DRINK OR WANT A NEED TO DRINK, but I do belieive that is is unfair for a judge or anyone (except a doctor or therapist) to make you take a drug without fully evaluating the person first , and what happened to to innocent before PROVEN guilty? That is my problem with this...I was sentenected to take this poison before I even went to tral for these charges.....sometimes the courts and judges aren't always right...maybe you should think about that...most of thie time itds all about the money |

You cant be sentenced to do something BEFORE trial even starts. And if you are on antabuse, usually its for society's good and not yours. Meaning its better that we KNOW a person isnt drinking than potentially have them on the road. What charges did you get? Did you enter into a plea with the prosecutor? if thats the case than you cant say youre innocent until proven guilty when you're entering a plea of guilty! And Im wondering how you can seem SO CONCERNED With the POTENTIAL side effects of antabuse and yet try to find a way to drink AND take antabuse even with the KNOWN Side effects of that (illness, vomiting, severe sickness that often leads to hospitalization?). If you dont think the judges and courtsare always right, you DO Have the right to appeal (that is if you didnt plea), AND you do have the ability to not listen to the judge and potentially justget jail time. Also, if you dont want to be involved in the criminal justice system, I suggest stop doing illegal activities.
PS Alcoholics are defined as people that continue to drink even with negative effects drinking has on their life (aka criminal conviction) |

just thought i'd throw my point in... You very well CAN be sentenced to something before your trail starts. On the hearing date it is not unheard of in anyway to be put on probation, sometimes leading to having to take antabuse. this is because sometimes the courts cannot fit you in for months, and they want you to be sober in the time between the hearing and the sentencing. I was ordered to take antabuse as a consequence of my probation. I had my hearing a month ago and that is when the judge told me this, my trial sentencing is not for another month. Just thought I'd clear this up so that the person that posted before me does not act like a lawyer.
P.S. I'm on this antabuse and I still drink. At first I tried giving the people in charge of making me take my pill aspirin instead of antabuse, but this only worked for a week before they caught on. after this i just try to not drink all of the water they crush up the pill in. Yes, I'm an alcoholic. I just got a public intoxication charge, twice. I didn't drink and drive or anything. I think my sentencing is a bit unfair, regardless of what you might think. I have just recently turned 21 so I have been looking forward to going to bars and such for about 7 years, and the courts took it away from me because I was drunk in public.. I think it is ridiculous. I learned my lesson not to act a fool but I love my beer. and Antabuse is a bullshit poison that should not be forced to take by anyone unless they have caused harm to someone or somethign similar due to alcohol. P.S.S. I can drink about 6 or 7 shots before I start getting the side effects of Antabuse (headache, increased heart rate, etc.). I have never felt sick to my stomach and I have never vomited, but I stop drinking once my heart starts beating quickly. I don't know if your body can build up a tolerance to Antabuse or if I have just beat the system for the time being, but I can still catch a very nice buzz and I have been following all the rules of my probation to the best of their knowledge =D |
