Amoxicillin side effects

I have to take antibiotic before dental appts and I took 4 giant amoxicillin today around 1 pm. Usually I have my dental appts in the am so that would give it a chance to wear off but here I am at 2 AM wide awake and freaked out from the amoxicillin. I already have a high state of anxiety going on and the amoxicillin was just what I needed to go right over the edge. I have taken 2 mg of ativan and it was like taking NOTHING. My gums hurt from the darned dentist to boot. I have had hyper reactions from antibiotics in the past so I shouldn't be too surprised but tomorrow is going to be one lousy day. Next time I go to the dentist they are going to have to give me something else plus an AM appt.

So thanks to everyone and I am so glad I found this site and realizing I'm not the only one having horrible side effects. After taking this drug for three days for sinitisus I feel tired, confused, very lightheaded, having stomach problems, and lots of anxiety. I was convinced I had Swine flu and found this website. Thanks guys!

For eveyone who is taking probiotics while on Amox. This is a GREAT thing to do, but you must wait till you have stopped the course of Amox until you start the probiotic or you will just end up with a load of dead, good bacteria in your gut. Amox will kill the good bacteria as soon as you ingest it. However, if you wait till after you stop the Amox you will replenish your good flora within a couple of days. Do not underestimate the debilitating effect of Amox and its effects on the gut. Your gastrointestinal/digestive system impacts your whole body and in needs to be healthy for you to feel healthy. Take the 'one a day' probiotic drink like Yakult, (supermarkets) or acidophilus bifidus and fos capsules (chemists or eBay) but remember...NOT at the same time as the Amoxicillin

Hi all.
I have been taking Amoxicillin for nearly two weeks due to a chest infection. I think I may have suffered some side effects but it is hard to tell when you have been sick anyway. After the first week I started to get a tight feeling in my chest and couldn't breathe in very deeply without coughing, almost asthma like. My cough worsened and I have developed flu-like symptoms. My eyes are permenantly sore and feel very gritty. Two days ago my tongue started to feel sore and swollen. I am permenantly tired and feel dizzy.
If anyone else has developed these symptoms I would be very interested to hear about it. Take care all.

My daughter is 5 years old and she has been taking amoxicillin for 7 days, and in this days she has been coming into my beddroom telling me she is having bad dreams and I actually though she just wanted to share my bed and have a cuddle with me, but she hasnt been able to sleep well at all i think max she has been sleeping for 5hours in the night.

I decide to do a such and see if anyone out there has ever had this strange side effect, I shall go and have a word with thr GP. thanks everyone.

I have weird moments when I get light headed and my heart rate increases. Then I start having weird thoughts and memories of stuff that never happened. I start thinking with the logic of a dream. you know how stuff makes sense in a dream but not in reality.

I'm taking ammoxicillin for a chest infection and i am having exactly the same problem! Also my head is slightly muggy (a bit light headed). Don't know whethr to continue taking the tablets or not.

Glad I found these posting. I just started 500mg amoxicillin for a sinus infection. took 1 so far yesterday, last night I vomited my food and vomited clear mucus slime for about 5 hours without rest until i passed out. don't know if that was a side-effect or if it was just my body clearing out. it was disgusting & exhausting. I have to take 3 a day. this morning i took 1 more.

I started on a 10 day supply for a throat infection. I have taken it before but for some reason it really made me feel crappy this time, literally. I had loose stool from the 3rd day on this medication. I had to stop taking this medication by day 8 (with only 2 days to go) because my stomach was really messing up on me. My throat infection went away by the 2 day but i continued taking this medication as instructed. I have now been off the medication for 6 days and my stomach has not gotten better. I still have an extremely weak stomach, no diaharria but I feel like if i eat anything i'd have to run to the restroom and i get colic quite often. I really dont know what else to do, my doc put me on maalox and pepcid ac. he said i needed to coat my stomach again. This sux and i dont think ill ever take amoxicillin again.
