I have always been very healthy and have a regular annual ECG and ful medical checkup withoug any problems. I have never had any problems with chest pains or problems breathing or heavy manaul work todate. 5 weeks ago I contracted the Cold bug that is abundant in the UK that disappeard after two weeks and then started again leaving me with a nasty chest cough and lost of catarrh. I have been walking miles with this cold to date with no problems whatsover in breathing of pains in my chest. Then......I visited my doctor to request antibiotics to shift my irritating cough so he prescribed Amoxicillin. Upto the day I visited my doctor I had no chest pains or any breathing problems and no problems with walking. I took one pill the first day, three pill the second day and went out for a walk. To my shock and horror, I could not walk more than 500 steps about 300 metres without getting agonising full chest pains and no breathe at all, the pain was agonising and the only way to alleviate this pain was to stop walking, could not walk a step more and lean over, doubled up in agony and chest pain. On the third day, I stopped taking Amoxicillin and immedieately visited my doctor who told me that Amoxicillin does not have any side effects. This is contrary to some internet site that tell patients that sever breathing problems are know when taking Amoxicillin. Amocillin, recently, nearly killed a member of my inlaws after he was prescribed this drug, putting him in bed to recover for 5 weeks. My doctor has now referred me to the rapid reaction chest clinic for Chest X-Ray, ECG and moving roadway test because my symptoms appeat to be Angina. Upto the poing of me taking Amoxicillin, I did not have this problem of sever chest pains or walking problems. I am worried. Have you had any similar experiences with Amoxicillin.

Yes I took Amoxicillin 875 for strep and within the 2nd night I woke up unable to breath. I sat down panicking with my Abuterol inhaler trying to calm down. I did get switched to Avelox which helped but my throat still hurts some. My chest pains went away also.(cold weather might hurt that also) Now I have 5 days of Amoxicillin sitting around with nothing to do with it! so disgusting!

It has been two weeks since my last dose of amoxicillin. I had hives for a while, but now am left with extreme pain in my joint areas, mostly my wrists and elbows. The symptoms seem to disappear some times, then come back even stronger. Wondering how long the pain will last?

My one year old daughter was prescribed Amoxicillin for a nasal infection. After about five days of a ten day dose she developed a bad diaper rash. Then about two days later she started to develop a slight rash on her torso. By day nine the rash was on her face, back, and her lips had started to swell. After speaking to my doctor, it was recommended I stop giving the medication and give her Benadryl. Unfortunately, the next morning she was covered in a bright red rash and her lips were severely swollen. The rash was also on her hands which also swelled. After a trip to the doctor, he prescribed a steroid and a new antibiotic. the reaction is taking days to clear up. There is a vast improvement in the appearance of the rash. However two days after starting the steroids the rash and swelling moved to her feet. This kept her up all night crying. How miserable to not be able to help your child. I will now be very mindful of the antibiotics my children are on.

i was given amoxicillin 500mg for a bronchial infection. during the night of the second day, my feet had become red and itchy. my husband bought me cortisone cream which helped get me through the night. the next morning, my feet were still itchy so again i applied the cream. i took the morning dose and took a shower. when i got out of the shower, i noticed that my chest and stomach were red and bumpy (no itching). i called the doctor and was told to stop the amoxicillin and to take benedryl. the itching stopped by that evening and the redness on my torso had subsided, but that took a couple of days to go away completely.

I was recently diagnosed with spontanious pneumothorax (Collapsed lung) in my left lung. It took two weeks to fully heal and during that time i got streap and was given Amoxicillin. Recently i have been feeling a weird and semi-constant pressure under my lung closer to my stomach and though i fear it is a complication of the collapsed lung, (i am a smoker and believe it might have irritated it) im begginning to wonder if the drug has anything to do with it as i think it is around my kidney area. Has anyone else ever gotten this kind of complication/.

Last year I have taken amoxyl due to an innocent flu. After two days the fever rose sky high and my husband found me in the corridor where I lay unconsious.I had a rash over my body and couldnt walk without blacking out. I was hospitalised with a 40C fever, a heartbeat over 110, almost unable to breathe and no vision anymore. Turnded out I had a severe amoxiciline allergy (I have taken 3 pills in total) which they treated with pure steroids. My body was totally swollen of this allergy and put on 6kg of weight of these swellings. Body, face, every part was swollen and became purple. Urine tests displayed my kidneys were not working properly and if it didnt show any progress they would have sent me to a academic faculty hospital. in total I was in the hospital for 4 days. They have told me that if I take these pills again they can be lethal for me. So in my case I had the following symptoms: -rash, followed by turning purple and body swellıng (my husband called me an 'aubergine') -fainting -high heartbeat (110 and im only 30 years old and ın good condition) -diarrea -severe breathing problems -total blacking out / fainting -kidney function problems -high fever In my case the side affects like fever, displayed within 2 day, but I mistaked it for the flu that I already had. The rash displayed after 2 days, one night later I passed out in the corridor.

I recently had a severe allergic reaction to amoxicillin even though I had previously used it. This time it was 500 mg, 2 times a day and unfortunately it took about five days to realize that the rash that was spreading over my entire body was being caused by the amoxicillin. I itched from head to toe, literally. The rash on my chest looked like a burn (with bumps) and I had bruises from my arms, throughout my abdomen and legs due to the incredible itching (and long fingernails). As soon as I started getting the rash I started with benedryl, with no success. Eventually the itching became intolerable and I went to emergency. Unfortunately, they miss diagnosed it and did not give me steroids. Four days later I ended up in a dermatologist and fortunately he gave me shot of prednisone right in his office and hooked me up with a compound cream with menthol along with a longer and stronger regime of prednisone. As a child I did have a local reaction to a penicillin shot and was told never to take it again. So, yes, amoxicillin allergies can be extremely severe, so use caution.

I took Amoxicillin for 2 1/2 days when I noticed rash on my arms and developed mild diarrhea. The doctor told me to stop taking it which I did. Four days later after not taking it I develop rash/hives from head to toe, my face and lips became swollen and I was miserable from the itch. I had to take steroids to help me get rid of the rash,,which is slowly going away 8 days later I am still battling with the rash,,which has a purplish undertone as it's slowly fading..

Last few days I've been experiencing skin rash and itchy that irritated on my feet. Now it's spreading all over my body. First I thought it was a side effect from my weekly allergy shot, however after reading all these comments I am suspecting that it's from Amoxicillin. It's very irritating!

i've recently taken a course of amoxicllin to treat a cold and possible chest infection. its been about 5 or 6 days since i took my last dose of 500mg 3 times a day for 5 days. I had a rash before i was prescribed the drug, and the doctor told me the rash was caused by my chest infection.
I'm still struggling with a cold, eating lots of fruit and veg but these past few days have been a case of small patchy rashes around my body, only aided by some for of antihistimin tablets. Mainly Zirtek.
I'm hoping this doesnt carry on much longer. Has anybody from the earlier posts had any more luck with ridding themselves of the rashes? I don't want to rely on hayfever tablets for the rest of my life!!!
Kind regards.

I had a mild but persistent cold and cough for a month so went to doc who gave me amoxicillin even after i told him i was allergic to it once. he seemed to think i'd have overgrown it as i had a pencillin shot after that incident. After two doses i started developing itchiness and mild rash. next day doc asked me to stop and take anti-histamines. Two doses of that and the rash spread and swelling began. So yesterday went to hospital where the doc asked me to take steroids and antihistamine. Took all doses yesterday. But last night was the worst ever - have not slept a wink and am suffering from a terrible rash all over the body, itchy feet, legs, palm, hand and vagina and swelling in lips, palm and feet mostly - pains to move them. Is this typical? Just wanted to share my agony! Would any of you know - Can the allergy get worse after starting steroids? Can you be allergic to amoxicillin and not pencillin? Can you be allergic to anti-histamines?! Can you be allergic to steroids!!! Thanks and all the best to all of you, Greta

i thought I would give some readers an update on my situation.
i have since been diagnosed with chronic urticaria, basically a persistent rash and have been prescribed a regular dose of antihistamine tablets. i think that this news will change my life at 21 years of age as I there is no known cure.
The cause of this is not known, it would seem that my body was very run down over a period of time and my auto-immune system has been infected. this is what the leaflet i was given suggests.

this if for ken - as you are young. some say homeopathy is good with allergies. why not check that out before getting hooked to antihistamines and or steroids for life.
