The first night I took Ambien, I didn't think anything of it and thought I slept good until I got an email from a friend whom I had emailed the next morning saying she was glad I was ok as she didn't know whether to call an ambulance or what for me. I didn't know what she was talking about until I checked my sent folder and at 2 a.m. I had emailed her saying I was having a terrible time and needed help. I have no clue as to what terrible time I was having and the words were all misspelled. The second time I took it a couple of weeks later as I had been afraid to continue on it, I must have gotten up and made spaghetti, taken it to bed and spilled it on my pillow and nightgown. A couple of monts later, over Labor Day week end I had had about 5 hours sleep out of 48 so decided to try it again. I wrote in my medicine log book, without remember writing it, that I took one at midnight. another one at 10:30 a.m. the next morning and another one at 11 a.m. on Monday morning. I knew I had taken the first one, but had no control over taking the next two and why would I take them when I woke up and not wait until evening? I must have called my neighbor and she didn't think I sounded good so came over and said I was doing all kinds of things and then I fell and hurt my back. These pills are dangerous and should be taken off the market. No matter what side effects the company posts, you have no idea what will happen to you or how bad it can be. What if I had small children and hurt them or anyone else or have broken a leg and just laid there until I came out of it? When I did come out of it, I thought it was Monday, Labor Day when it was actually Tuesday and I have no memory of Monday other than what I wrote down or my neighbor told me. I knew it could have side effects, but never expected them to be so drastic. I will never take them again. I took them according to directions and doctor's advice. You are stupid to think the way you do. You just don't know what you will do until after you take them. I accept responsibility for the first one, but had no control over taking the second and third ones in the morning no less. Why would I want to take them in the morning after sleeping all night??? If I could find a lawyer, I would sue, just for the scare of not remembering what I did and for injuring my back.

Class Action update

Apparently Sanofi-Aventis pharmaceuticals has won the first round, they convinced the G.W. Bush judges that there were too many, different adverse impacts from Ambien/ Stilnoct to warrant a class action suit. The victims, I guess, must all show exactly the same, single damage...

"Case Closed:

"After over a year of investigation and reviewing about 1,000 forms and other data from people nationwide, it was determined that there were too many different factual differences between potential claimants that would prevent a class from being certified by the court.* The law requires* common injuries and damages between everyone.* In this case, everyone had a difference, whether it was their being on other medications or how they took Ambien; it was different enough to determine a class action was not best.* Our offices always maintained from the start of this action that our goal was twofold:(1) to make people aware that they could suffer adverse reactions from Ambien that they did not know about and (2)to get stronger warnings about this drug.* We accomplished that when we put this issue out to the media and on March 14, 2007 the FDA directed the Ambien manufacturer* to provide the very warnings this lawsuit demanded.*No other office nationwide would at least take that responsibility.* We did, and we got a result, and we did not receive any compensation other than accomplishing what we promised."

I agree with you.... I took one pill and drove my car after I went to bed and was convicted of a DUI by a jury and it cost over $5000.00 + my license for a year for taking a pill and going to bed. So to the guy who wrote the last comment... You have no clue.

Oh for Pete's sake. Get off your high horse. That drug was advertised as safe and non addicting when it first came out. Over the years the information contained in the teensey weeny little print on the monograph changed little by little. I've yet to see a pharmacist fork over a monograph with a scrip other than birth control pills to begin with.
I am scarred for LIFE due to burns, cuts etc., from sleep walking/eating... you name it. I guess YOU'D say I got the life long punishment I deserve because I trusted a prescription drug.
Well, there are a whole bunch of us out there that probably DO deserve to get rich off that slime ball Sanofi company but it ain't going to happen (lawyers in C.A. suits get it all) but I, for one, will have scars forever and I know others who have ruined their lives in car accidents, etc. from this drug.
You are SOOOOOOO way out of line and off base it's almost sickening. Since the Ambien doesn't bother you why don't you take one, go to sleep and stay away from the puter where REAL LIVE PEOPLE are searching for help.

Gonna be honest, I'm not convinced.

I've taken ambien several times, and only happened upon this forum by trying to get out of the commercial paid advertising for the topic I'm researching.

Anywho, just like with many previous searches about various topics, the internet is full of people who complain. The problem is, your chances of running ONLY into people with negative stories is much higher here, because anger / frustration is probably the strongest motivator. If you've never had any issues, you won't be on these forums.

The general consensus is that the VAST majority of people who have issues with ambien (driving, doing illegal things, etc.) are found with much higher than prescription levels in their system, OR they are found to have other drugs in their system. Combine that with people like a previous poster who claimed he was a doctor, but apparently can't spell, and all of the rather amazing stories generated by completely anonymous people, and I'm not convinced, like the judges, that any truth can be gleaned from this thread.

Several of you have been taking it excessively for long periods of time, others have been legally abusing other medications, still others seem to be taking Ambien improperly by not getting in bed. If this much chaos existed, the FDA would be interested, and the media would give it more attention, not to mention more independent scientific opinions would be expressed.

I've taken it for my sleeping problems, but I don't take other drugs along with it. I've had hallucinations, impaired memory for the period I was under its influence (which is, coincidentally, at night, and I'm in bed, so I don't exactly NEED to remember the strange conversation I had with my wife before falling asleep), and I've done some strange things when I stayed up.

Not to mention I know several other people who have taken the medication with some strange incidents, or with no incidents. This is by far the majority of experiences with Ambien.

I find this eerily reminiscent of the anti-Effexor forums, where I went to find out about how to get off of the anti-depressant. Turns out it's not fun if you don't take it slowly, but most people bitching on the forums don't do things by the rules.

Quit imagining that the docs and the feds are all being bought and paid for just to keep you doped up and psycho, driving off of cliffs. Inside, most of you (not all, some of you may have had bad reactions, like an allergy or some contraindication) probably know that one silly thing you added to the equation, but failed to mention in your post.

Sorry for the rant, and I truly mean nothing against those of you who keep yourselves drug free and play by the rules, but still suffered a reaction. I hope your stories are persevered and abusers won't hinder your attempts to notify the engineers trying to help you sleep, so that they can work out these kinks.

P.S.-> What's up with writing an all caps message, "not knowing" that your doc upped your dosage, or an insomniac bitching about suddenly falling asleep after taking a sleep-aid that claims to take effect in around ~10-15 min.? You're an insomniac.

You are very lucky. The identical negative side effects are from LSD bad trips. That happened decades ago. totally unpredictable outcomes...and doctors not informed about the severe reactions.

I have been taking ambien off and on for years. I quite taking it when I woke up in jail, arrested for driving under the influence.
When I refused to do a breath test the police took me to county jail. I was verbally abusive to the telling one officer that "he is so ugly he must have fallen out of his mother's vagina onto the floor." It was on video.
The first thing that I remember in the jail was two officers sttrip searching me. When I was too slow in complying with their request to remove my underwear, one officer punched me in the face, spliting my nose and the pther slammed me to the ground. I was lying in a puddle blood that they used my clothes to clean up. When this happened I was in a room without video. In the previous video in the jail, where there was video I kept talking non-stop making fun of the officers. In my defense I was non-violent and most of the officers were laughing.
When I filed a complaint with internal affairs they said the assult was justified because I threw my pants at them. I remember throwing them in a plastic bag that they had for my clothes.
I also had to go to court, pay fines, do jail time, counciling, last my license and ultimitly my job due to transportation issues. My girlfriend broke up with me and I had to move in with my parents.
I guess it could have been worse. I could have killed someone and/or myself.

What? Society has turned people into a bunch of thieving bastards! Get off the drug and don’t think about stealing $$$...
So your life has been perfect you have never given of yourself to help another human. Have you ever served your country? I think NOT!

I have served and given of myself and when I find these medication companies, and people like yourself could careless because your only concern is yourself "How Pathetic" we are the guinea pigs that sacrifice our lives and well being so that COW-TURDS (cowards) like yourself who are safe in your little world because you have people like myself to PROTECT you unselfishly. GOD I hope you aren't able to reproduce, not that you would know how to do it so our society is safe there!

OH! by the way I corrected you pour illeducated GRAMMER not that you would notice mind you.

Bottom Line: these company's promise those of us that have suffered helping others that they have a cure for our injuries and our suffering only to find out down the road it isn't what it is all cracked up to be and you should know this. Someday you will suffer an injury due to your stupidity "not because you were brave and caring for others" just out shear stupidity and I will say "I didn't feel a thing, what a cry baby.

Choke on the pain.

Yours truly: Former U.S. Marine now being charged with multiple DUI's because of a drug that was suppose to allow him to get more than 1-2 hours sleep a night ZZZZZZzzzzzzzzz..........

Daily Horoscope for December 23

Gemini

You're in a very erratic mood today, making you restless, edgy and nervy. It may be almost impossible to settle to anything for long, because, as Mercury slows, you soon lose interest. If life becomes boring you'll want to liven it up in some way and it's likely you'll choose the most disruptive and controversial option you can think of, even though you know this will cause trouble.
