Tell you doc that a relative of yours takes ambien and that it works for them, that's what I did and the doc wrote me a script for it.

I'm coming off of ambien after a 7 year run with it. The withdrawal has been terrible. My sleep issues now are worse than the insomnia I trying to conquer in the first place.

Oh me too! Count me in on the NO side effects whatsoever user! I've been using Ambien for about two years now. Not every night, either. And just half a tab when I do need it. Makes me drift off NICELY instead of tossing and turning til 3AM. NO bad side effects at all.

I agree with the post that advised not to generalize personal experience. Ambien was a godsend for me. Fifteen minutes after taking it I can't even walk. Six to eight hours later I wake up, no side effects, no hangover, nothing. Ambien came out after I'd used dramamine for years. I discovered it while learning to scuba dive (on the boat trips to the location). It doesn't make me antsy like Benadryl et. al.

yeah, I have been taking ambien for about a year... just every once in awhile if I have a lot of trouble getting to sleep... like before a big exam (I am a graduate student) and really need the sleep. This helped me so much.. I never have weird side effects or anything.. it just helps me fall asleep about 15 mins after taking it and wake up refreshed in the morning.

To those of you trying to overcome addiction to this drug, I would like to suggest a website with relaxation and sleep audio files to help you drift off. I have issues with getting to sleep as well. Not insomnia but more-so restless leg syndrome.

Just to let you guys know, the FDA IS considering making Ambien over the counter by 2010 or 2011. That's not to say that it will be, but that it certainly might be.

doubt it, ive read a story where someone took almost 300mg (30x normal dose) and just woke up the next day.

Just saw a rerun of CSI on Spike in which one of the criminalists said that zolpidem was available in a number of OTC sleeping aids, which isn't true if zolpidem is still Schedule IV.
