'Low-cost' generic drugs not so low for all

Full story: www.startribune.com

Walgreens, the pharmacy giant that advertises hundreds of generic prescriptions at $1 a week, routinely charges Medicare and Medical Assistance more for the same drugs. The pharmacy chain excludes from its "Prescription Savings Club" anyone who has government-sponsored drug benefits for older Americans or the poor. As a result, the government -- and, in some cases, Medicare recipients -- pay more.

Stopping smoking, doing drugs, drinking, are free. Getting up and doing some exercices is free, but these freeloaders want cheap pills to wash down with their Coors and Krispy Creme donuts.

I switched my perscriptions from Walgreens to Target and I've been shocked at how much cheaper they've been.

The Walgreens is closer and the folks there are nice, but I'd just be a fool not to get my prescriptions at Target instead.

(I understand that proscriptions are also cheaper at Walmart - but there isn't one near me.)

If you go to Walgreens in my town, they match the Wal Mart price. You can get a 90 day prescription of generics for $10. That's less than the cost of the proverbial Coors and Krispy Kremes.

If they don't offer that price for Medicaid users, we need to build a bigger wing in prison for Walgreen executives to bunk with AIG executives.

I know what they guy meant but he doesnt understand the human suffering that corporate America is blind to, many people choose between food and medicine, and nether the democrats or the republicans can seem to shake the rich drug mfrs off their backs.
Its criminal that it costs 3cents to make a prozac and they want 3 , 4 ,5 6 each for them. and No i dont use that drug. I did use celebrex before my heart attack, but some fat cat political appointment judge says that didn't almost kill me. Lets talk about toprol where if you stop taking it it cloud kill you or how about plavix which is a budget breaker bar none.

Wal mart says a months Rx of generic drugs on their list is $4.00 a month. If your Rx calls for you to take one pill twice a day they charge you $8.00 a month. Even thought it's only a months Rx.If you do the 90 day for $10.00 they charge you $20.00. If you question them about they will flash a card chart at you telling them what to charge even thought it goes against what they advertise. There is something rotten in that.

Gotcha! And then theres Prilosec, which before it went over the counter I was paying 5 a pill! But over the counter it is 50 cents a pill! They say that it's to pay for the "research" But it insults your intelligence to think you'd fall for that!Just more corporate scamming! Lying S.O.B.'s !

The generic toprol(metoprolol) has been recalled. It seems not all places have given it up. I got some from Wal Mart last week in New Orleans. It's still not cheap. 90 days was $127.00.

Plavix is outragous. All those tv commercials must cost them millions a year. I refuse to take it. I take my asprin and hope it works.

The f-ing idiot strikes again! Choke any terminally ill cancer patients lately? YOU are not even worth the jism that ran down your daddy's leg! What a nice guy you are? Medicare is something you pay for your whole life with deductions out of ones paycheck! The majority of medicare recipients are disabled or over 65, you poor excuse for a human being!
Under 65 and disabled do nothing but eat and leach off of society. Notice how fat the disabled tubs are? See those 350lbs of blubber in their new(I paid for) electric wheelchair. When is the last time someone on disability told you thanks for working so they can get a check? Never. Nothing but pond scum is what they are. So are you one of those bums?

I agree, but until folks are not allowed to sue for 10 million dollars because the got some side effect from a pill, the drug companies will put that cost into the product.
The reason pills are cheap in canada is because you cannot collect massive damages from the pharmaceutical companies.

First of all slick, you sound like you need some xanax more than anything. But besides that maybe you should stick with some omneprozole which is otc? But I guess you want the prescription stuff so the taxpayer picks up the tab!

The lessons here are:

- it pays to shop around.

and

- you shouldn't assume that your pharmacy is automatically matching prices - they're not.

THERE NOT THE ONLY ONES. Theres doctors that do this too. Because they know the goverment going to pay it. What I mean is if a person has private insurance and that insurance tell that doctor an office visits only gonna be 65.00 then they charge medicade 85.00 then thats dumb on the goverment. If the goverment would go into these doctors offices and look into this and tell them well private insurance onlys pays you 65.00 then thats all were paying. Same way with drugs, hospitals, labs and all health care. If they did this they would save millions if not billions. just another example of more hands in the cookie jar. The only problem now is theres not enough cookies baking now to go back in.

I know one lady who walks up her 14 steps every day to get into her house. Once inside there are three walkers and one electric wheelchair. Her house is so cluttered she can't use the walkers or the wheelchair. She doesn't use any of that taxpayer funded equipment but took it all because it was free. Her doctor gives her a prescription for anything she wants. He gets paid by the taxpayers every time she shows up at his office.

These blood suckers are the true receivers of a "bailout" Take and take but never give. The losers cannot even volunteer to read books to kids at school. they are to worried about their next Loratab and prilosec.
