I have been on Ramipril fro two months and have the same dry cough that lots of you have reported - but is there a solution- I don't really want to come off as I am concerned about my blood pressure

I've been on Rampil for about 3 months now. I've noticed I have a cough that won't go away and my throat dries out to the point it makes me cough and I'm not sleeping very much because of it. I called my doctor and he told me to stop taking that medication. I've also noticed dry skin patches in the bend of my elbows and the back of my knees. Is anyone else having these symptoms?

I've been on Altace 10 mg for about 2 years now. I'm also Hypothyroid and take Synthyroid daily. As soon as I started taking the Altace, I started dropping much needed weight. I was watching my calories but still I believe it made it easier with the Altace. All in all, I lost 32 lbs. Well, about 4 months ago my Dr. changed me to the generic version. Immediately started noticing my legs, ankles, feet swelling tremendously but didn't make the connection about the medicine. Since that time, I have gained over 20 lbs., most of it in my middle area, even though I walk 2 miles per day and eat 1400-1500 calories per day average. I called my Dr. yesterday and told her my idea about the generic version and she switched me back to Altace 10 mg. Has anyone else had similar reaction to the generic version? I really hope that is what the problem is and that is the only common denominator I can come up with at this point. Each day that I get on the scales, I am up at least 1 more lb. I've gained almost 5 lbs. in the last week alone.

I've just turned 50 and the Dr has prescribed Altace for me and started me on 2.5mg/d to be increased to 5mg/d in two weeks. I'de like to hear other persons' experience with this. He did this because my BP was 140/90, but that really fluctuates. A recent reading was 100/60.
Diet, Exercise, and chiropractic care has been proven to help with blood pressure. Also blood pressure should be considered "high" if it is high for months before medications are used. Also doctors should seek alternative ways to decrease blood pressure.

I have been a Typoe I diabetic for 30 years. I took Altace for a number of years and was then switched to Ramipril. I have taken Ramipril for 2 years now and have had no side effects with either pill. My bp stays in the range of 122/70. I visit my diabetic specialist every 4 months and have never had any problems with my kidneys. I am 70 years old.

Hi, I was put on Altace 5mg for my mild blood pressure 135/86-88. I really do not know should I be on BP pills with 135/86-88. Anyway, after three days, my lips turned real red and my face skin looks dark red but no swollen and no cough though. The most fearful side effect is NOISE. Yes, I became very hyper sensitve to noise from far away. While having lunch at a local cafeteria, I could hear the guy a few tables away using the knife to cut his vegy-salad. Background noise becomes so loud and close to my ear.

I'm on Ramipril 2.5 mg. For the last 3 months I've had dry mouth, then there was tiny red sores and burning mouth felt like my mouth was on fire..For the last few weeks my mouth was so dry I startedt the biotene toothpaste and mouthwash, definatly helped...Anyway, after 3 month not healing mouth and tongue sores and burning I went to my Medical Dr. After blood test all normal, they said they will test me for some disease..And it wasnt' the blood presure meds..So i decided to go to my Peridontist, he also said it wasn't the altace..Anyway I stopped on my own yesterday the Ramiphil and omg!!! today i can swallow and I finally have spit in my mouth....After reading up i haven't really found anyone else having a SEVERE DRY MOUTH SORES AND TONGUE PAIN ..does anyone else have these side effects or allergic reaction to these meds??? I get the results of more tests on Tues..but I will let my drs know that I'm starting to feel better and my salvia glands seem to produce spit in my mouth since I stopped the blood pressure generic of Altace

I have been taking rampril for over 3 mos. and I did not connect that it might be causing the problems I now have. Went to my family doctor and a ear, nose and throat specialist, I have a strangulating cough and tickle 90% of the time, which drives me insane, can't sleep. It was diagnosed as a sinus infection, so consequently I have been on antibiotics for 30 days and now another 30 days, and everything is the same. Also have lost bladder control. Take cough medicine and eat cough drops by the dozen. My husband and I have been doing some investigative work ourselves and I ran across your comments. I have rheumatoid arthritis but have been on that medication for over 5 years. I am interested in knowing whether you have found a solution. I do believe I'm going to quit taking the rampril and see what happens. I can't live this way.

I have been taking Altace for about 3 months. Tried other blood pressure pills but could not work because of sleepiness. The altace works very well excpet for this terrible cough. I have now developed a severe sinus infection with a flu that has been going around and never have been so sick for a long time. I also because of the cough have no bladder control. I am 63 years old NEVER have been on medication during my life except for the odd time but prided myself in keeping healthy. This has a double edged sword. Good for the blood pressure but Really bad for side effects in regards what the coughing will do to you. Has changed my life considerably and will now try something natural and maybelose some weight.

I have been to be on Toprol 50mg for over a year and my doctor added Altcace 10mg about 1 week ago. Now I started developing intense headache right before reaching climax and it lasts for about a minute after. Has anyone else experienced this side effect?

Im 40 been on Ramipril for a couple of months at 5mg per day. Im desperately trying to lose weight which is probably the cause of my high blood pressure, stuck to my healthy eating plan (which I know works because I lost 2 stone a couple of years ago) religiously for 3 weeks and have only lost a pound - anyone else had this problem

I have been on ramipril for like 1.5 months. the side effects are leg muscle are sore and back is also sore. Dr refuses to believe this as side effect of the medicine. Dry cough sometimes. Increased bathroom trips during the night time. I am on 5mg and still have bp at 140/90. I might stop the medicine to see if the leg soreness goes away.

Hi I was on Ramipril for 4 years and then developed Angiodema. I noticed swelling of the lips and face hands, feet, torso in patches tounge and throat. This was coupled with numbness of the face and body and fuzziness in the head - could not think straight It was most distressing. Consultant put it down to Ramipril and took me off it. I have been off it for 3 and a half weeks now and whilst some symptoms have lessened I still feel very dizzy and numb in the head an tight in the thorax
Am worried that the symptopms will never go away. I also have the hyper sensetivity to sound - small sounds make me jump and tend to 'ring' in my brain. I wondered if these symptoms have gone away for you?
I would welcome comments from those that have had similar side effects and have come off Ramipril to see how long the effects last after dicontinuing the drug
Thanks
