My mother takes altace and has had a rash on her scalp, neck, and face shortly after she started the medication. The doctor said that altace should not cause a rash. Has anyone else experienced this?

I took altace for 3 months.. I too experienced the dry hacking cough.. To the point I could not sleep.. As soon as I fall asleep and start breathing from my mouth the cough starts. Nothing seems to stop it.. I have tried taking a drink of water each time I start coughing.. Watching the clock I wake up every hour. I have now lost work and have been off the med for over a week and the cough is persisting.. My doctor who said he had problems with the cough said it will continue for at least another month.. I have been coughing the entire time I have been on the med and advise anyone who starts experienceing the coughing to seek an alternitive as soon as possible.. There is no way this side effect could be worth the help this med gives. I am miserable

Regarding coughing, the paranasal sinuses produce a strong acid that runs down in the throat and causes severe coughing. To inhibit this cough put a heaping teaspoonful of soda bicarbonate in 500 cc. of distilled water. If sprayed in the nose and throat, this will neutralize the acid. For thick mucus in the nose, take the same solution and add 1 cc. of dishwater detergent, I like Dawn myself. A few drops of Neosynephrine may be added, if needed.

I've been on ramipril 5mg for nearly 2 months (used to be on Atenol) and I've got a persistent dry tickly cough and am waking up at 5.30am everyday. Coincidental that this started to happen since I've been taking ramipril

I have only been taking ramipril for a very short time and will definitely stop. I have felt ill since I started taking them. heartburn kidney pains etc etc. Yes I have high blood pressure but I think that its the lesser of the two evils.

Has anyone had attacks of canker sores while using Altace, especially if you never had canker sores before? What about fatigue? depression? a miserable, weak sensation in the lower gut?

I have taken Altace for several years without much problem, gradually building up to a dose of 10 mg per day. I have been at that level for a year now but during that year I have become tired, lethargic and depressed, hard to self-motivate, and most recently
had a very bad outbreak of canker sores (which I have not had before). Altace never really helped my blood pressure very much at the lower dose levels, and only moderately helped, I would say at the 10 mg dose. I admit I was getting some blood pressure lowering from it at 10 mg per day. But I am also wondering if I have been on it so long I've become sensitized to it because it seems like I am getting some bad reactions now and some of these things are actually listed as side effects. Also, my the bottoms of my feet are always sore now first things in the morning. Has anyone had any experiences like these with Altace or am I off base and these symptoms are caused be other things?

I am 63 and have been taking Altace (10mg daily) for over a year. Within the last 3 months, I have been experiencing anxiety, strong and irregular heart beat, sleeplisness, and tinitus (really bad). Today I have stopped taking Altace and will monitor my BP. Besides, I just taking a beta blocker (TOPRAL 25 mg) for migraine headaches. I hope and pray the bad symptoms subside soon.
I would question taking an ace inhibitor for blood pressure AND a beta blocker for migraine prevention. You may only need one that would address both problems. Be sure that it is OK to just stop either one. I know that with the beta blocker you need to wean off the medication. Good luck.

Did your pressure go down from the medicine, or wcan you attribuite anything from lifestyle changes?

I've just turned 50 and the Dr has prescribed Altace for me and started me on 2.5mg/d to be increased to 5mg/d in two weeks. I'de like to hear other persons' experience with this. He did this because my BP was 140/90, but that really fluctuates. A recent reading was 100/60.

I am 38 and have been put on Altace and a duritic in order to control my blood pressure. I have changed my life style completly. Daily monitoring suggests that my top number remains about 140, and my bottom fluctuates from 73 to 84. According to the 24 hour pressure cuff, I am as healhty as a horse. Any other 38 year olds out there with this kind of problem.
