the 1st thing they teach you about ace-inhibitors is that the main side effect is a cough... they should have advised the patient to find a new doctor... & then switch to an ARB...

Violent coughing can be caused by lisinopril. i was prescribed the medication and coughed continously. I had my doctor take me off the medication and haven't been coughing siince.

I too had the violent coughing fits from taking lisinopril for my high blood pressure. After suffering for several weeks my doctor changed my medication and it disapeared after a few days.

ACE inhibitors are wonderful drugs. They lower BP, protect the kidneys in diabetics, and actually help repair or remold the heart ventricle . Unfortunately, some patients do develop a cough on these products and they should be discontinued in that setting. However the majority of people have no problem tolerating them. They are much less expensive than their ARB cousins and for that reason remain an excellent choice of medication

I was on lisinopril for about two months and had an awful cough during all that time. when I had a dr. checkup I told him about it and he took me off for two weeks. cough continued. went to another doctor and he said two weeks was not long enough and said to stay off lisinopril for two months. the coughing has subsided, not completely, but not as bad. I am now on Avalide and that also is an Ace inhibitor. Any chance that also may induce cough?

Blue Cross/Blue Shield made me change to the generic Ramipril from Altace. Altace kept my blood pressure at 110/74. With Ramipril it's up to 154/92. So they say their the same ingrediants. Well, not by my experience! I do not have a cough, but I am constantly clearing my throat.
