Anthem Insurance, like most insurance companies, recently directed my pharmacy to discontinue my Altace prescription and replace it with Ramipril. Should I be concerned, and how do I know a generic is as potent as the name brand, Altace?

Yes, they are right, don't panic, look:

Generic Name: Ramipril (RA-mi-pril)

I am concerned about this, too. Lupin Pharmaceuticals and Cobalt Laboratories make ramipril. Lupin is in India, so it is cheaper for the insurance company. But is ramipril the EXACT replica for Altace? Who knows??

See my comments above. King might also make Ramipril.

Not only that, Medicare prohibits my MD from writing a prescription for Altace as DAW without a coverage review.

What non-generic drugs could substitute for Altace? I am afraid that the generics aren't the same.

Found out that the generics are NOT the same as Altace. They may have fillers, dyes and other inactive ingredients that differ from brand name Altace.

I have been on Altace for 6 years without a problem. Recently, my cardiologist switched me to Ramipril. Everything was fine for a few months but two days ago my blood pressure shot thru the roof. This is rare as I was told but some people cannot see any results from the generic. I'm going back to Altace.

Daily Horoscope for December 4

Libra

You're at your most idealistic and romantic today, which is saying something. You have no desire to come into contact with brutal reality unless you have absolutely no choice in the matter. Instead, you want to float away into a world of your own, preferably accompanied by someone utterly wonderful. However, don't fall into the trap of kidding yourself about something or someone, especially if you know full well that this will break your heart further down the line.
