My Mom used this with on a credit-card sized basal cell carcinoma that was too deep to remove surgically, and that couldn't be treated with radiation, since it was on the front of her forehead.

Although, it made her very sick, she vomited alot, it worked great. After 6 months she is still cancer-free.

I have dysplasia and i have had the cone biopsy done and a few years later i had Leep surgery, now its been another couple years and again a abnormal pap. I think in all this i have had one normal pap smear. I went to the doctor this week and the doctor reccomended i use this cream Aldara in my vagina at night 2 times a week for 16 weeks. Has anyone else heard of this procedure?

I read the package insert and it says its not for internal use:
"Imiquimod (i-MI-kwi-mod) is used to treat external warts around the genital and rectal areas called condyloma acuminatum. It is not used on warts INSIDE the vagina, penis, or rectum."

My Doctor told me it was okay to put a little right inside the vaginal opening as long as it was rigt next to the "mouth" of the vagina, but I was unsure since I read the insert also and it does say for External use only...so I don't think you need to put the cream inside your vagina.

I have gone through the same thing and was very frustrated as well. I went to a new gyno who was a women and she has been practicing the use of internal aldara. You should not apply it yourself though. You need to go to the doctor once a week for 6 weeks and have them apply it directly to your cervix (or paint it on your cervix as they call it). It creates a flu like reaction for about a day and makes you feel very achy. My doctor says they have done it on about 30 women last year and had about an 80% success rate.

oh i see thank you for replying. I am seeing my doctor again this week to get some more information on it and where exactly 'where' and how far to put it. I have had the perscription now almost a month. I know my pharmisist told me to be sure to consult my doctor again before using it.

DEE...are you using it now? My dr has me using it twice a week for 16 weeks at bedtime then washing it off upon waking. I haven't started yet. I have had it about a month now but i am seeing my dr again this coming week. I wanted to consult with him again before using it. If you are using it how long have you been? I want to thank you for replying. I have been told to get a 2nd opinion and been told not to put it 'there' etc... so it's making me feel better knowing other dr's are using it for what i was told to as well.

My doctor also prescribed aldara (inside the vagina) for my dysplasia and I am concerned after reading the instructions that say not to do so. Have you tried it internally yet? I am going to use it for the first time tonight.

my doctor took a biopsy of a skin cancer on the end of my nose toda.(it had all the appeances of being a skin cancer,as i've had many over the years which had to be surgically removed)

he said the lab results will be known within a few days. if positive for skin cancer, he said would probaby prescribe Aldara treatment before suggesting a surgery.

about july 15 he will call me and make a definite suggestion. as of now i dont know what the Aldara treatment consists of, how long you take it etc. certainly if it works it would be far preferred than an operation and skin graft on my nose.

i have been using it twice a week now for a couple weeks and besides being kind of itchy and sore in the area sometimes, it seems fine. i hope it is working and when i got back for a pap in october hopefully it will be normal. kelly i would suggest using the cream even if it does make you get swelled up, i think it will be worth it in the end, my gyno seemed to think is the best way to go right now. hopefully she is right!

My grandaughter 6 yr. old was diagnosed with Molluscum cont. She has warts in her chin, neck and chest and she is very concerned of the condition because everybody has something to say about her (she is very shy)
The dermatologist recomended Aldara 3 times a week for 6 weeks. Now is the 3rd week and some are larger and red in the chest, the ones in the neck are smaller and in the chin are the same.
If somebody has experience with this medicine in the children , please tell us how long it takes for a real improvement and if these tretment really is safe for kids.

sheri, i have not had a pap yet. my gyno wants me to come back in the end of october for one, she wanted me to use the cream for a few months first. i hope it comes back normal, but we will see. as of now this is the only treatment i am using. my gyno said it normally clears on it's own but she wanted to make sure. anyway if my pap does come back abnormal then i guess i will look into some other kind of treatment like freezing or a cone biopsy. anyway i would suggest that you start using the cream soon. it is really not a big deal, i was worried to but the worst thing is a little itching in that area sometimes, but overall it has not really affected me. i am using it twice a week but i dont really think it makes a difference, the gynos all have their own ideas i guess.
