My 2 year old son has severe eczema and molluscus contagiousm (viral warts) that are spreading pretty rapidly on his armpit, trunk and arms.
After trying topical steroids to control the eczema and beetle juice to treat the molluscus (they caused scaring) our doctor has us trying out Aldara on them. Has anyone had luck with this? Very frustrated in Texas. |

It says on the package insert that aldara is not for kids under 12. Did you ask your doctor if its ok for kids younger than that? What could happen if a younger child uses aldera? I would want to know that first BEFORE i used it on MY kid. Warts are nothing if this stuff will cause cancer or something horrible...

My 5-yr-old daughter also has Molluscum and her dermatologist prescribed Aldara. We've been using it for about 3-4 weeks and it seems to be working so far but could take several more weeks for the molluscum to disappear completely.
Aldara has not been approved for kids under 12 for specific conditions however from everything I have read, molluscum is not one of them. I have read in several places that Aldara has been shown to be effective in kids ages 4-12 for molluscum. |

My 4 year old has molluscum, very wide spread. Our pediatrician initially told us that they would go away by themselves and not to bother with treatment. He then prescribed Aldara which did not resolve the problem. An associate in the pediatrician's office recommended that we "pop the seed out" when it appears and told us that they would resolve. We have tried this and it is working. We wait until she is asleep, use a sterile needle and just break the skin. A small sore appears and when it heals the molluscum is gone.

My daughter 5 just got molluscus contagiousm (viral warts) that are spreading pretty rapidly all over her body, including her lips. I knwo scratching just spreads them more, but she can't stop. Today the Dr. prescribed something orally to deal with the itching and Aldara applied eery other day. It looks like the Aldara is helping them go away, but I think I may try the pricking them at night when they first show up and see if they go away faster. I'm just conerned the school is going to say something about her condition. Have any of you had issues with the school.

Hi - I have a 4 year old daughter with MC only on her face. She has 1 on each eyelid, a couple on the outside corner of one eye and the rest are all around her mouth. She has had MC for going on 10 months. We noticed 1-2 bumps last year that prompted our Dx visit. When they are so small and have not spread, unfortunately, the Dx could not accurately diagnose the condition. We were told after 2 doctor visits upon noticing a few more pop up that they just looked like pimples. After another month went by and we noticed one on her eyelid, I demanded to see the head doctor who had not yet seen our daughter and he immediately told us she had MC. Both of his sons had MC for 2 years before they went away on their own (he never treated them). Unfortunately, by this 3rd visit, she had at least 10-15 very small bumps that had sprkead from her nightly ritual of rubbing her stuffed animal around her face. The MC followed the trail her animal would take around her face almost perfectly (most around her mouth). We've since stopped that habit (about 3 months into having MC) and the spreading, thankfully, stopped. That's the background....As far as school...she attends pre-school. For the first 5 months, she went to school with no problem. Her teacher's 2 children had also been exposed to MC earlier on, so her teacher was familiar with the virus and had no problem with our daughter being in class. However, apparently questions and complaints started after 5 months and the Director of the school was forced to document a policy that MC must be covered with bandages, no mater its location on the body. For 2 weeks, I would cut up small bandages for my daughter to wear around her mouth and on the side of her 1 eye. The bandages were Disney princess ones that she thought were fun to wear. But, one morning she told me that she no longer wanted to wear them and I was done. I told her that she had to wear them if she wanted to go to school (I phrased it so that other kids wouldn't accidentally touch her "bumps") or she could stay home and we could lots of fun things at home and go on fun trips. She loved the idea of staying home and said that she wanted to wait for her "bumps" to go away before she goes back to school. So, bottom line, it's only pre-school, for crying out loud, and I'm happy that we can spend some time together before she has to go to full-time "real" school. She won't start Kindergarten for another because of her birth date. We're hoping this MC nuisance is gone by then! We are off and on again with the Aldara. I started applying again to her MC around her mouth in hopes that we'll see a few more in that area go away. Kids will ask her what is around her mouth and because of her age and personality she answers them with no problem and it doesn't phase her but I just cringe and can't wait until they are all gone. But on the other hand, I am extremely thankful that we only have this MC to deal with and that it eventually go away!!! |

My 2 years old son was prescribed Aldara for a kind of virus in the skin, is not exactly MC, so my question is How you apply it to their children? Because the cream has to remain long in each of the "bumps" for take effect, the doctor told me to put plasters on each of the bumps.
Thanks |

Hello. My children all have MC. my daughter has bad case due to her eczema. I have tried aldara, retina A and long process and nothing yet.(april first one)Today we did first treatment of beetle juice. Does anyone have info on this tx? I know this supposedly goes away on own and does "not harm" but socially and cosmetically is very hard to deal with. I feel it will never end.and the scarey part is every 2-3 days there is a new one. I am interested on if anyone else has anxiety over passing it to loved ones. We have small cousins and although it "does not hurt" Breaks my heart if we put another famiy through this. But how do we stay away for 2 years???? I never heard of this before we got it and i feel it is a never ending nightmare. i also am confused on my DR said once you get it your immune but reading up on it you can be reinfected so, if I have three kids with it they will cont pass it back and forth so we will never be without it? I am looking also for some positive stories of people that this did end for them. I fear we will never get rid of it.
