I have just had Aldara prescribed and then purchased from drug store. I am trying to find out how to use it and what to expect as a reaction - if it causes a bloody sore like most wart remedies - how to protect the area after it is applied....

I am a little concerned that none of the other forum inquires have been replied to - especially by someone with experience.

Here's hoping for some more info... Richard

Here is a website for 3M the drug maker. I would ask them these questions. I only have experience with Basal Skin Cancer and Aldara.

I just started using Aldara 3 days ago for Basal Cell Carcinoma. My dr says use it daily for 8 weeks. I've experienced itching & burning already & was wondering if anyone could tell me what else to expect? Also, they didn't tell me how thick to apply it, and if there's anything that I can put on the area after I've washed the cream off that would help alleviate the discomfort.

Caroline, I used Aldara for three weeks (prescribed for six weeks) for sBCC. I applied it as thinly as I could. I experienced itching, burning, then scabby, bloody patches. After three weeks I called the dermo to ask if this was normal and she said "great" that means it is fighting the cancer and said I could stop. That was 2 weeks ago when my scabs were almost 1/2 inch thick. Since then it is all drying up, fast, flaking off, no itching, skin underneath is nice and soft and new although a little pink. It is far better than the adjacent area where the doc excised the sBCC early April. That is still raised, tender, and healing slowly. Hang in there with the Aldara. I hated it but it seems to be better than surgery in the long run.
