Irene,

About a week after my wife began taking Aciphex she experienced marked swelling in her feet (the swelling cycled from minimal to significant from morning to evening). Hard to say of course if the Aciphex was the cause. She stopped taking it several days ago and thinks the swelling has begun to lessen (I'm not sure).

I note two comments re swelling of legs and feet. I have had this problem all my life, but usually controllable with elastic stockings. Since I began Aciphex, the swelling if much more noticeable in my feet and toes, as well as legs, and by midafternoon my elastic stockings are filled so tightly that my legs feel like lead. I am loath to stop Aciphex because it has given such good control of my acid reflux. Nexium gave me a similar reaction.

I am suffering with frequent urination and never feel fully relieved. I had a bladder condition prior to taking AcipHex and it has gotten substantially worse. I'm not sure which I want to deal with: bladder spasms or stomach ulcers. Tough call.

Etta,

Thanks for your reply on this. Your experience sounds similar to that of my wife, who did stop using Aciphex once she found that she could do some things with her meal and food schedule to address her problem. The swelling began to reduce in a day or so after she did so and was no longer present 2 weeks later.

I, too, have the same issues and wonder if there is a correlation between bladder spasms and stomach ulcers? Do you by any chance have IC

I've tried everything for the reflux. Now trying Aciphex and these comments must be why my bladder has been so active since I started it. My question is, since I can only take the aciphex once a day, can I take zantac, too? Has anyone done this and had any problems?

I have neen taking Aciphex for several years and recently have been experincing frequent urination and leg pain. I stop taking for a few days because I thought it was interfering with my antibotic and the pain was not as bad. Since I started again it has gotten worse.

I have been battling acid reflux for over 10 yrs....taken all the leading brands of RX for it....with Aciphex I developed such severe leg pain that it would awaken me at night....I walked with a limp....
earlier this week I stopped aciphex...trying to deal with the reflux naturally....not doing too well ... lots of esophagus pain....but, with the FIRST day off the acipex...no more leg pain! wow....now the tuff call....stop eating to rid the reflux....or leg pain! gee.

I started taking Aciphex in early July 2007 because of a suspected ulcer. After a few weeks, I noticed that my legs and ankles were swelling, but attributed it to our hot humid rainy season here in Tucson. Leg pain was so bad that I had trouble sleeping at night, and, on waking, I had trouble walking.

I always thought that, in stopping the normal acid-producing process, there would be a negative reaction somewhere. I will stop the Aciphex to see if this condition goes away. Tums will take care of the acid.

Thanks for sharing your experiences.

I had taken Aciphex for about a year after a significant Esophageal ulcer. I took it for a year with no side-effects, and it worked perfectly. About three weeks ago, I started to experience extreme stomach pressure and bloating, and pain again at the bottom of my Esophagus and reflux related symptoms. Fought it for about 2 weeks (Back to bland diet, no pop, really watched what I was doing, etc.). Pain persisted, then experienced some dizziness too. MY GI Doc switched me to Prevacid yesterday. I finally had a good nights sleep last night and am starting to feel like things are a little better today. Obviously, it will take a week or two to really see what is going on here, but it appears I developed side effects and loss of efficacy. I hope the Prevacid does the trick....you all know how big an effect GERD can have on your overall well being.

After 2 days stopping Aciphex my leg pain was gone. Swelling down, too, almost right away.
Went to doc and he suggested a systemic approach to inflammation, which may be causing ulcer-like symptoms and also some numbness in my feet. I've started taking tumeric and ginger root supplements.
For stomach acid, milder acid-reducer like Zantac or Pepcid; these are the H2 receptor drugs, not proton pump inhibitors like Aciphex and Prevacid.
