Anyone was able to get off Aciphex successfully?

I'm considering taking Aciphex to heal erosions in my esophagus and stomach. It is supposed to heal them after 4-8 weeks of use. Can I then stop using this medicine, or will I be stuck with it for life ? Everybody seems to be satisfied that it remedies GERD while being used, but can it be stopped when no longer needed, without any problems ?

My experience is that Aciphex (proton pump inhibitor) works best when taken daily. My lay explanation for this is that because my body produces excess acid, I will always need PPI medication. The only ill effect when I discontinued using Aciphex was that the pain and bloating returned after a couple of weeks. Substitutes such as Nexium, Prilosec, Prevacid and Ranitidine(not a PPI) do not work well for me. Unfortunately, Aciphex is very expensive. Good luck.
