Hello,
I am a concerned Father of a 16yr boy that has been on Accutane for about 4 months. I was just informed that he broke into a neighbors garage and vandalized a vehicle. He has had no prior trouble and His mother and myself are not blamming this on his Accutane use. We have doctors helping him including a clinical psychologist and have discontinued his Accutane. Please respond if you have had similar experience of the same. Thanks for your time.

accutane is known to cause behavioral changes...im not surprised..it clearly effects the brain in many ways...however, i think that ur sons vandalism is much deeper than his accutane use. my behavioral changes include lethargy, moodiness, cry spells for no apparent reason...etc. but its not severe and thank god i hve not experienced any MAJOR side effects from tane. ill be done in one month and looks like ur son will be done with tane as well. good luck

Hi people. Once again, let me remind you that accutane has no effect on emotions whatsoever (the drug that is). Its effects on the skin and in the way it changes one's life however, does. I am a student in psychology and am going on accutane soon. I'm not worried about a thing. Sir, I believe your son's problem is in no way linked with accutane so please, do not interpret it as such. I do not know enough on your situation but don't waste your time looking into accutane. I'd start by looking at exterior variables.

To Marc,
Thanks for your reply. Although I am interested in replies that have had similar experience as my son. You mention in your reply though that accutane has no effect on emotions. How did you arrive at that clinical conclusion? According to the manufacturer of Accutane it states in it's product warning; "Accutane may cause depression, psychosis and, rarely , suicidal ideation, suicide attempts, suicide, and aggressive and/or violent behaviors." Both my wife and I read this and thought this "could" be a factor in my son's yet unidentified cause for his behavior. Again, at this point we are not blaming my son's behavior on Accutane. We are only doing research. Thanks again for your note.

Tatiana,

Thanks for your note, we did notice lethargy and moodiness in his behavior prior to my son's vandalism. Luckly my wife is a degreed in Psychology and did mention this to me about a week before. I am also wondering if his High Triglyceride Levels and higher biliribun levels had any effect?????

The reason that warning is on Accutane's package is because a senator's son commited suicide while on the drug a few years ago. The senator attributed his son's suicide to the drug and the manufacturer, not wanting to shut down production of this drug, agreed to have a warning put on the packages. You are right, I, personnally have no clinical proof, I am only theorizing based on personnal experience and on my knowledge of psychology. However, recent (althought not particularly extensive) research shows no proof that accutane modifies the physiology of the brain in such a way to cause depression. The thing about this drug is that all extensive research done on it up to here has been conducted from a medical angle and none of these show definite proof that accutane causes depression. Bilirubin and triglyceride levels have no effect on mood.

Actually, Accutane has been linked with nearly 150 suicides, and is associated with depression and other psychiatric disorders. Accutane is the subject of several lawsuits.

An internet message board is not the best place to get medical information, though. Talk to your doctors.

150 suicides on what...50 million people treated worldwide? And on those 150 suicides how many do you think were actually directly caused by accutane? The fact of the matter is that there is no proof that accutane causes suicide or depression. All we have up to now, is in fact, proof of the contrary. Check your sources. I have.

You both have good points. I agree with Bob on talking with your Dr., but most doctors agree that
Accutane is safe as long as you go by the guidelines. Bloodwork, birthcontrol etc.

Marc, your right about the stats. If I thought it
was unsafe, I wouldn't be on it a second time.
I was depressed with my acne, but the more it clears up, the less depressed I am!

I dont see how you can say it doesn't cause behavioural changes. Even with my acne I wasn't depressed, I was a happy young lad. No behavioural problems, now I am always pissed off with everything, fighting alot with people, moody, quite depressed etc. Before it I would go to the gym religiously, now I have to throw myself out of bed and fight myself to go.... accutane does mess your emotions up from my experience.

It is a hardcore drug :(

Keep going to the gym. Try to stay as active as you can & you will be fine! Just keep thinking that you will be off this medicine real soon. Hang in there!

Thanks to all for their informative replies. But after consulting with all the doctors (Family doctor, Dermatologist, Psychologist and Clinical Psychiatrist) they have determined that Accutane was in fact the cause of my son acting out his impulses. They told us everyone has thoughts of doing bad things but Accutane caused my son to act on them. I saw several posts in this thread and others of people who proclaim to be expert or sound like they are experts with regard to this drug. Please don't believe them. I am not sure why they feel they need to give incorrect advice/information to people. I have received mail from several other parents outside of this forum describing almost the same events that happened to our son/daughter. My son has discontinued Accutane for 2 weeks now and seems to be adjusting (under doctors care of course). Although this is Xmas holiday we will see in the next 60-90 days how he does. To all the parents out there that have experienced this please don't do what we did and blame yourselves first before getting all the facts. I want to thank all the people who did post and did share their "actual" experiences with us.

I've tried both original brand and generic accutane. I prefer generic accutane - There is no difference in effectiveness as far as I can tell between the brand and generic versions. The real difference is price, no comparison. And this suppliers seem honest and reliable. On the site http://g-isotretinoin.info I've just placed my 3rd order.
Thanks for that address. http://g-isotretinoin.info has my pills within a week at my door. They perfectly work! I have found them very good value for money. My special discount coupon 1VQY12ZPi3

I have been on this from http://g-isotretinoin.info for 3 months now and have noticed a massive improvement of my acne. The acne on my back is practically non existent and the amount on my face has dramatically improved. I got lots of comments today saying how face has cleared up since I last saw these people 2 weeks ago. I now have much less acne on my face and it expected to all be gone in 3 more months forever. I am currently on 60mg a day one at morning and 2 at night and I am a 15 year old female. I have had some back pain when I play my weekly sport and dry lips but that is all the side effects I have had.

I started Accutane when I was 17. My skin looked really bad. I had pimples on my face approaching the size of dimes. The acne went over my shoulders, down the front of my chest and down to the bottom of my back. I tried all the creams and fancy products and nothing worked. My doctor finally put me on a round of Accutane from http://g-acne-treatment.info . The first dose I was on for a couple of months didn't do much, so the doctor doubled it. Within six months, my acne was almost all gone and I stopped treatment. Within 18 months I had zero acne and zero scarring - my skin was utterly flawless and still is. I am now basically cured of acne - less than half a dozen pimples in ten years. Miracle.

I fought with acne throughout my teenage years and tried everything to get rid of it (proactiv, neutrogena, retin-a, clean and clear, you name it). I experienced quite an initial breakout soon after I started accutane but was expecting it and told myself my skin would get better. I’m now in the last week of my treatment and my skin is flawless. I haven’t had a single zit in 3 months, and scars from my previous breakouts are fading. If your in doubt that accutane can solve your acne frustrations, don’t be. Survive the first two months or so of accutane and you will be rewarded with the complexion you’ve always wanted.

Before I went on accutane from http://fastacnetreat.info I had tried EVERYTHING... constant Cremes, Benzyol Proxide, 3 different antibiotics, retin A Creme... you name it I used it. None of these things really worked for me; it would only suppress my acne. BTW.. I should inform everyone on here that I never had awful acne, I had moderately severe acne that I was sick of dealing with. I finally decided to go on accutain and I will admit I was really scared. Thr first two months were rough not going to lie; after those two months my face started looking better and better. Now I have NO acne on my face just a couple on my back... it really is AMAZING. Don't let anyone stop you from taking this medication... it works and no one should suffer with acne!!! I have one more month so lets hope I get 100% clear!! I'm at about 88%
