This is my second day on accutane and I woke up this morning with a bad headache. I didnt think anything of it really since I am a huge coffee drinker and figured it was because I needed my daily caffeine fix. But two cups of coffee later and into the afternoon, my headache was still there...is this a serious side effect of the accutane, and only after the 2nd day?? Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated. I sure hope I don't have to go off of accutane since this is my last hope for being acne-free!!!

From what I have read headaches are a potential side effect due to pressure in the brain (from inflamation). If the headaches get too bad you should contact your doctor.

The first week of using Accutane I was getting headaches but I didn't thing anything of it, because I have gotten migraines in the past,Then I realized it was one of the side effects.About the second week my headaches were gone.I spoke to my doctor and he sad that was a normal side effect.

I experienced the same thing, a few bad headaches the first week or so, however, they've seemed to decrease significantly after that.

I have been on and off accutane for 4 years (currently off). I would also wake up with headaches after taking my accutane the night before. I have read that it is because of pressure build up in the brain as a result of the effects of the medication. I seem to get the headaches most frequently when I am just starting a course of treatment.

I've been on generic Accutane (Claravis) for about 2.5 weeks. I take 3 pills (total 60mg) a day, and realized that I always get a headache when I take them all at once. So my doctor advised me to spread the pills out throughout the day, and said if headaches still persist, it could be a more serious problem. Fortunately, spreading it out worked for me.

I've taken Accutane and had headaches, too. Mine started a few weeks after I started taking it and my derm told me to stop taking my multivitamin because it had vitamin A in it. You're not supposed to take any vitamin A while you're on Accutane because both can increase pressure in the brain. There's a multivitamin called ebA Multivitamin that doesn't have vitamin A that you can take while on Accutane. My headaches went away after I stopped taking the multivitamin. If you're headaches don't go away in a day or two, you should be sure to tell your doctor because they can be serious.

My headaches went away after I stopped taking my multivitamin that contains vitamin A. My dermatologist told me not to take any vitamins containing vitamin A since Accutane and vitamin A are related and can have overlapping side effects. There's a website that has good info about all Accutane side effects: www.vitaminA.org .

Yea---the headaches are not fun, but take some tylenol behind it and you should be good to go!

I am 20 i weigh 123 5'5 . I started about 7 days ago 30 mg once a day. I got pressure in my ear and minor headache. I called my doctor just to be safe. He wants me to stop takeing it for a few days. He told me when the headache goes away to start takeing it again but every other day.My skin is already looking better so i just hope i dont have to stop because of a minor headache and pressure in my ear.It feels like my hopes just got crushed.

I have been taking a generic (Amnisteem), and after a couple of weeks I had throbbing headaches with naseau. My doc said that the kind to worry about is accompanied by blurred vision, I had cut my dose down to one a day until the headaches passed, but I am back to two a day again. He said I was wasting my time otherwise. I hope I am able to make it through the six months.

Todd,
I don't think you are wasting your time by cutting your dose. When i was on it before I cut my dose down because the side effects were so painful (burning skin, joint pain, blurred vision, etc.) and I also cut my cycle from 6 to 4 months. I stayed clear for 5 years. You don't want to end up like some of the people on here that have permanent irreversible damage. Sometimes doctors arent too cautious with this stuff, hence the need for this forum.

I was on Accutane a few years ago. Let me tell you if you have headaches you have to STOP immediately. Don't let the doctor tell you it's normal. I continued to take it and now have a chronic condition called Benign Intracranial Hypertension. This was caused by Vitamin A toxicity (Accutane). I've been off Accutane for six years now. NOT FUN. 5 out of seven days per week I have pressure headaches. I feel like my head is going to burst and my eyes are buldging out of my eye sockets. It's terrible and irreversible. I have to have repeated spinal taps to remove some of the excess cerebral spinal fluid. I once had a headache for four weeks straing. I contemplated on suicide as a remedy. Very scary. I now take Diamox daily (probably for the rest of my days). Not to mention the pain relievers I have to take just to subside the pain. If my story can help just one person, I hope it does. Don't make the mistake I made. Stay away. Acne at most will last a few years. Most people can control it w/ benzol peroxide and smooth beam treatments at the dermotologists office. You'd be amazed at what those repeated smooth bean treatments do. But if I could go back in time, I would. Just say NO.

I had no complaints last year when I was taking accutane. This week I started on 20mg a day much more then I took before and I thought I was going to die yesterday from a headache. I laid down and eventually felt better went shopping. I was just walking into the store when my eyes my head everything hurt. I havent taken any today but I still have a slight headache or on the verge of getting one. Im very cautious about what I put im my body and maybe this is the result of the last few days being very very traumatic and crying quite a lot. Nothing to do with depression and accutane, but my life was touched by complete strangers who died this week because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time.
