Isotretinoin. Acne Drugs Linked to Risk of Eye Problems

Reuters have reported that Isotretinoin can double the risk of eye problems in acne patients.

I've tried both original brand and generic accutane. I prefer generic accutane - There is no difference in effectiveness as far as I can tell between the brand and generic versions. Mel, it's a risk, not a 100% for sure going to happen sort of thing. There are risks associated with just about every drug. Some are more severe while others are just a slight inconvenience and usually the side effects are very uncommon.

The article states that every 2 out of 100 people experienced eye problems. For you to be able to say it's not true because you did not experience the problem would mean that the rate would have to be close to 100%. Just because you yourself did not experience any eye trouble while taking this medication does not mean that the potential risk is not there or that this is made up.

Please don't go around telling people not to believe a drug side effect warning unless you yourself are a qualified doctor or pharmacist.

I fought with acne throughout my teenage years and tried everything to get rid of it (proactiv, neutrogena, retin-a, clean and clear, you name it). I experienced quite an initial breakout soon after I started accutane but was expecting it and told myself my skin would get better. I’m now in the last week of my treatment and my skin is flawless.
