Im 16 years old and I am in many sports, and as of resently I have had terrible knee problems in both of my knees. I cannot run or jog, and have problems walking up stairs. It has improved a little but I'm not sure if I should quit tane.

My 14 year old daughter has been on accutane for 6 weeks. She is a runner and a soccer player for her high school. Before she started Accutane she was a totally conditioned athlete with no history of injuries. At about 5-6 weeks into the treatment,she developed severe pain in both her knees and in her right hip. She cannot run due to the pain. She takes 20mg in the morning and 40 mg in the evening. Her derm just told her to cut out the morning dose due to the pain. WEll now she took a week off of accutane and she tested her legs just to find she still is having pain. Nobody seems to connect accutane and muscle pain... I really think its connected and it is accutane causing these syptoms. I just want to make the right decision here...D/c the accutane for good or stick it out for entire course? She is an athlete and not being able to run/play is mentally killing her.

I have been on this from http://g-isotretinoin.info for 3 months now and have noticed a massive improvement of my acne. I experienced knee pain while I was on accutane, but I figured it was a temporary side effect, like the rest of them are likely to be, and I toughed it out. I stopped running because my knees hurt too much. I was on the 'tane for 5 months. It's been about 2 years now since I've been off Accutane (just turned 31) and my knees are getting better, but I still can't run for more than 10 minutes on the treadmill without getting intense knee pain. I've been taking Osteo-BiFlex ever since the knee pain began, while I was on the Accutane, and while it helps it doesn't completely stop the pain. I read on forums like this one that you had to get the kind with the HA - Hyaluronic Acid. It's the fluid that's in your joints, I guess it's what needs to be replenished after the Accutane dries them out. I tried just plain glucosamine and chrondroitin, and found that the Hyaluronic Acid is what helped the most for me. Good luck, and I'd recommend stopping the Accutane, also. I miss being able to run at the gym, and being able to hike outdoors without pain.

I fought with acne throughout my teenage years and tried everything to get rid of it (proactiv, neutrogena, retin-a, clean and clear, you name it). I experienced quite an initial breakout soon after I started accutane but was expecting it and told myself my skin would get better. I’m now in the last week of my treatment and my skin is flawless. I haven’t had a single zit in 3 months, and scars from my previous breakouts are fading. If your in doubt that accutane can solve your acne frustrations, don’t be. Survive the first two months or so of accutane and you will be rewarded with the complexion you’ve always wanted.

None of these things really worked for me; it would only suppress my acne. BTW..
