Hello all, it's been a while since i've posted here because it seems that after two courses of accutane, my skin is remaining clear :D.
Anyhow, when i was on my second course of Accutane (bought online, not prescribed by doctor) I began to experience pretty shitty depression, i stuck with it, because I kept busy alot, and I genuinely was very motivated to beat my acne, which fingers crossed it has done. I appreciate depression is a listed side effect of the drug, but i kinda expected it would go away when i came off Accutane. And i'm nowhere near as depressed as I was, however...I am still depressed, 6 months on after i've finished taking it. I've been to the doctors and i'm actually getting counselling atm for everything, but there's nothing specific that's wrong with my life tbh, by that I mean nothing that is particularly wrong with me that would explain my depression. Currently, I feel like my head is trapped in a dark fog, there are moments when the fog isn't so bleak, and there are more moments where it's more black than ever, but I genuinely get the impression that if my life was everything I desire, the fog would still be there. So i'm beginning to ask myself, is my condition more down to biology, low serotonin levels, I just havent properly recovered after coming off accutane? Just for reference, i've never felt depression before i went on accutane the second time. Does this sound plausable? I appreciate many suffer from depression whilst on the drug, but I can't find much about people suffering once their cause has finished. Is it possible that accutane is still haunting me 6 months on, i feel horrid:(. Sorry to waffle on, i hope you're all ok, and good luck with everything. James x |

Hey James,
It is very plausible that accutane is still causing you depression. I was on a course and finished october last year, and like you, am *touch wood* still clear and will remain that way. However, I have suffered from depression before accutane was prescribed for reasons I wont go in to now, however, whilst being on accutane it severely worsened any depression I had ever felt before. I have been off it for around 15 months now, and find myself in a better frame of mind than I was when on it, however I found a pattern, and you may laugh, but if I go for a few days without drinking enough water, the "side effects" seem to crop up on me again. I found the best way to stop the worsening of my depression since being off this drug was to drink plenty of water, something we should all be doing anyhow. When on the drug I found my left elbow to lock up so I wasnt able to straighten it properly, and it felt how I would imagine arthritis to feel, very sore indeed. I find that if i dont drink enough water that ache sort of locking feeling can crop up on me again, however not anywhere near as bad as it was when I was on the medication itself. I understand I am not a doctor or specialist, but I feel the people who have actually taken the medication themselves know best. If I was you, I would make sure to drink 2 litres of water daily, without fail, you will feel healthier with that, but give it a couple of days and that depression will effectively be washed away. I realise we are all different but I really do feel this could help you a lot. Keep active, play sport etc, that helps, but nothing too extreme, light sort of exercise. Most importantly take on plenty of water daily, and you will notice an improvement very quickly. Like I said before, I am no doctor or specialist, but my logic tells me that as we were on a highly toxic drug in such high doses for a long period, any remaining accutane is still going to be stored in our liver, so when we get dehydrated, the liver breaks down cells that contain the surplus drug (to help get hydration from anywhere it can) in our bodies and so it gets released in to our system again. Much like taking a dose of accutane. I hope the fog clears man. I know I struggle when the side effects hit me again, but for me, it really is as simple as not drinking enough fluids. I hope this helps, and I think I waffled on more than you :S |

Hey James. I'm sorry to hear that you're feeling that way.
Just keep reminding yourself that is just a side effect of the drug. It will go away eventually. Like Will said, the water and positive activities really help! Try to stay away from depressant substances like alcohol or other drugs. Keep us posted. We're here for you.:) __ Paul Michaels Ft. Lauderdale, FL www.AcneTreatmentJournal.com |

James. I have the same exact feelings. The only thing my life always lacked was money and even if I got it I would still be depresed. If you have any updates that would be helpful I just don't feel like myself anymore. Btw 80mg for 5.5 months off for four. |

I am currently on my fifth course of Accutane from http://z-isotretinoin.info . When I began my first course in 2003 as a 14-year-old, I had extremely severe cystic acne. My face, neck, throat, chest, and back were all covered with acne. I had absolutely no self confidence whatsoever. To be perfectly honest, I hated my life. Within two months of beginning Accutane, my acne began to improve. By the time my first course was finished, I had gone from having severe cystic acne to completely acne-free. I had regained my confidence, and I began to truly enjoy life.

Hi James -
I realize it is a while since you posted - I hope you are doing better. In case you are not, I wanted to share my experience with Accutane. As briefly as possible: I took the drug two times, first at a low dose while living in Germany and second at a higher dose in the US. About two weeks into the higher dose my brain basically went nuts - severe headaches, withdrawal socially, absolutely no focus, that same fog (they apparently call it "accutane haze"), joint pains, no stamina, and extreme depression. I had never been depressed before and it did not go away when I discontinued treatment. I spent two years depressed, unmotivated, and very angry at this drug - and traveled to a dozen or so doctors from Atlanta to Michigan trying to get some answers or treatment. Eventually, I took Wellbutrin which was well prescribed both for it's use as a stimulant (ADD / concentration enhancing) and as an antidepressant. It made life bearable but nowhere near right. Then, I found neurofeedback - a crazy treatment that allows people to correct their own brain wave abnormalities by alerting / rewarding them when they correctly enter the correct frequencies. It is expensive and time consuming, but when I had lost all hope for a real fix, saved my life, literally. If you are still dealing with this, I urge you to look into it. Google neurofeedback, read a bit, and schedule a consultation. Best of luck to you. |

I've read that accutane causes birth defects. It's the same with Paxil, an antidepressant. However, I'm not really sure if accutane causes depression. But if it does, then it certainly would be a double side effect on birth defects. See: http://www.paxilbirthdefectlaw.com/paxil-laws...

I've tried both original brand and generic accutane. I prefer generic accutane - There is no difference in effectiveness as far as I can tell between the brand and generic versions. The real difference is price, no comparison. And this suppliers seem honest and reliable. On the site http://z-isotretinoin.info I've just placed my 3rd order.

I was depressed before, went on Lexapro and Wellbutrin which brought me back to myself - after 6 months of myself i was ready to try something different with my complextion (i was early 30's and done with severe acne)... so i went on it. Half way through treatment depression came back and hasn't gone away -- which I'm going on 3 years... there is a book out there about accutane everything they don't tell you.
As far as excerising, etc.. when you're depressed there is NOTHING you can do - it's hard to explain; you can't make yourself do it, i'm physically exhausted. I come home from work and ready for bed at 730pm and have a hard time getting up at 730 to head there again. extermely interested in evertyhing ppl are writing. |

I started Accutane when I was 17. My skin looked really bad. I had pimples on my face approaching the size of dimes. The acne went over my shoulders, down the front of my chest and down to the bottom of my back. I tried all the creams and fancy products and nothing worked. My doctor finally put me on a round of Accutane from http://g-acne-treatment.info . The first dose I was on for a couple of months didn't do much, so the doctor doubled it. Within six months, my acne was almost all gone and I stopped treatment. Within 18 months I had zero acne and zero scarring - my skin was utterly flawless and still is. I am now basically cured of acne - less than half a dozen pimples in ten years. Miracle.

I fought with acne throughout my teenage years and tried everything to get rid of it (proactiv, neutrogena, retin-a, clean and clear, you name it). I experienced quite an initial breakout soon after I started accutane but was expecting it and told myself my skin would get better. I’m now in the last week of my treatment and my skin is flawless. I haven’t had a single zit in 3 months, and scars from my previous breakouts are fading. If your in doubt that accutane can solve your acne frustrations, don’t be. Survive the first two months or so of accutane and you will be rewarded with the complexion you’ve always wanted. |

Before I went on accutane from http://fastacnetreat.info I had tried EVERYTHING... constant Cremes, Benzyol Proxide, 3 different antibiotics, retin A Creme... you name it I used it. None of these things really worked for me; it would only suppress my acne. BTW.. I should inform everyone on here that I never had awful acne, I had moderately severe acne that I was sick of dealing with. I finally decided to go on accutain and I will admit I was really scared. Thr first two months were rough not going to lie; after those two months my face started looking better and better. Now I have NO acne on my face just a couple on my back... it really is AMAZING. Don't let anyone stop you from taking this medication... it works and no one should suffer with acne!!! I have one more month so lets hope I get 100% clear!! I'm at about 88%
