I've been off accutane for two months and my face and hair have become extremely oily. I also had to go get my eyes checked because my contacts seemed to not be strong enough anymore. I am also on depression medicine. So I would definitely rethink accutane if I were you. But I will say my face is completely clear with no blemishes whatsoever.

I was prescribed Accutane over ten years ago. I still have the cysts, the dry lips quickly stopped - but I can't sit in the sun with my family or I end up with an extremely itchy rash all over my upper body. My wife calls me her lizard! TEN YEARS LATER!

I took tane for about 7 months and finished treatment in april. It took me about 2 1/2 months for my face to really clear up. I experienced a breakout about 3 weeks after I started the drug and from then on my face got clearer and clearer. I had no problems getting off the drug until about 2 weeks ago and my face is starting to break out pretty moderately again. Dryness stopped about 3 weeks after I finished my treatment, and the drug definately worked on stubborn bumps, I had a lot of cystic acne beforehand that disappeared.

hey guys..i just wanna fill in my experience with accutance. i took it in 2001 cuz i had persistant acne that wouldn't go away. i tried proactiv, over-the-counter drugs and dermatologist recommended stuff and nothing worked. i did one full course of accutane and ever since my face has been clear. i barely ever get any pimples anymore. only thing is i have dry lips, but i take vitamin e pills and that helps. also, my face was really oily. 6 years after accutane, my face is still NOT oily at all. so, if you can deal with dry lips, maybe it's worth a shot. and i didn't lose any hair..keep your heads up because i honestly thought i would NEVER get rid of my acne. I used to keep a journal about how i hated life because i had to deal with acne..there is hope. i wanted to write this for a while now, because i know the pain you are all feeling. everything will be alright though, just have patience. i wish you all the best.

W Taliaferro wrote: did anyone still use any topicals while on accutane and if so what did you use? Also, how soon did you see results or when does the accutane really kick in? Did everyone experience initial breakouts and when did they occur? Also, how soon will dryness stop after treatment? Does it work against stubborn bumps? I used erythromycin (I think that's what it's called) as a topical on stubborn spots. It's an alcohol-based gel, which is great for deeper cysts because alcohol penetrates very deeply, and hence carries the anti-biotic gel into the cyst chamber. It worked reasonably well I suppose. It is sometimes marketed as 'Eryacne', but I'm sure other generics exist. I've been on for 5 months, might be off tomorrow (I hope). Results started to show in about the 2nd week, but there was a lengthy breakout after that and I only saw improvements at the end of month 3, but they were massive. I'm hoping dryness stops within a few days, which means by next weekend I can go to the beach!

I have used that gel too, it's good for problem spots but very expensive if you need to cover your whole body with it the tube don't last long.

IF YOU USE ROACCUTANE IT IS LIKE PLAYING RUSSIAN ROULETTE you might be one of the lucky ones or you could turn out to be one of the unlucky ones. if you are unlucky than your mentality will change for the rest of your life, you will become a negative person, you will enjoy nothing and it will certainly make you depressed looking back, id rather be depressed about my pimples instead of life itself because life is everything or should i say nothing? the doctor put me on roaccutane at 15 years old, i went from being the class clown, a happy person to being a depressed, confused person, i lost my character and my nature...EVERYONE was telling me i have changed between the age of 15-17 years old but anyway i cbf going on GOOD LUCK!!! p.s. if i ever come across one of the makers of roche, i guaranty id be willing to kill him/her, not because of the damage that this drug did to me but because they wont admit the drug can be unsafe (because they are greedy fucks!!!) AND they keep selling the drug, thus meaning they are willing to ruin more peoples lives to keep making their money. if they are willing to ruin my life and the next persons life than i am willing to even things out

I myself have been on tane for about 10 months and just completed last month, it worked wonders for my face. About a few weeks later my oily skin and acne came back, not as bad. It also made my pores much larger and my face looked rough. I'm now back on it because I want that flawless looking face I had when I was first on tane. Does this mean I have to take tane for the rest of my life? Anyone?

you were on it for 10 months?! my derm will only let me go on it for 6 maximum!:( i'd of thought your poures would of been nearly non-existant after that long. what dosage were you on? i'm jus about to finish and i'm convinced my acne is jus gonna pop straight back up when i stop, since i'm still gettin fresh spots. and no going on accutane permenantly isnt such a good idea!

Once I stop using Accutane (not anytime soon, but this is for future reference), will my normal oil production begin again, or does Accutane have a lasting effect that prevents your pores from producing so much oil? Yes, but not as much, I would suggest when done with treatment and to prevent oils from coming back I would use Akne-Zyme its a vitamin you can buy at any vitamin store, it worked for me and still is.

You must not have really bad acne if your derm only put you on it for 6months, I see a really good Derm Dr. who wants nothing but the best for my face. He suggested that I try an over the counter vitamin called Akne-Zyme after treatment to keep the oils at a minimum. As you read from my last message, my oily skin came back but not as much, but no acne. Now I'm back on it again and I love the power and wonders it provides to my skin. Good luck!

Further to your qestion regarding dosage, I was using 30mg a day. The lower the dosage the longer your on it.

Which on-line site do you buy/order from? I placed an order from a on-line site called "Canadian Pharmacy" but I have yet to receive my order, this was about a month ago. Nevertheless, I'm disputing the charges with my back. Brett wrote: I can only speak for myself, but this is my experience: I've been on two full courses with Accutane, and cleared up 100% while on the drug. About a year (or a little less) after the first course, I started to get some acne on my face again - not at all as bad as before the first round. In my case, the answer is "yes" - your skin WILL start to produce oil again, perhaps not as much as before Accutane. It's logic if you think of it - the side effects (chapped lips, etc) go away after you stop taking Accutane, so you also start to produce oil again. My last full course was in 2003 - this winter I started to get mild acne on my back and chest again, and I'm currtently treating myself with low-dose Accutane purcased online. This time (after two full courses) the acne on my chest and back responded to the Accutane in less than one week.
