I've been off accutane for 2 months now, but I'm still experiencing a little bit of dryness on the outside of my lips. I've been using Vaseline but it doesn't seem to be working too well.
It's not my lips themselves that are dry, there's just very small dry skin on the edge of my lips.
Has this happened to anyone else, and what do you use?

Get used to it. What I find that works really well is Cetaphil lotion (it's in a white bottle with green labels). Try that on your face. If not, carry chapstick with you everywhere you go.

I am experiencing the same thing!! I've had this for about 2 months now, on and off, redness on my lips and it kills and looks gross! Blistex seems to cure it sometimes but then it appears again 2 days later! I think I'm going to see my doctor! I hope it's not an STD!! sarahhhh surri wrote: dude my skin around my lips are frekin red and burn when i eat :'( its sick.....why??? is this a STD or something???????

Try carmex lip balm. Not only does it help with the chapped lips but it is for cold sores so it may help.

I'm currently on accutane and am experiencing the same thing (severe dryness around the lips). Is this temporary?

go to the store and buy yourself some aquaphor. its this gel kinda ointment for cracked and dry skin that works much better than chap stick and you end up using it a lot but its a life saver instead of having chapped lips all of the time. accutane is a bitch but you just gotta get through it. i'm a month in right now.

Yeah, you are going to experience dry skin all over. For example, 2 weeks ago the skin on my forearm, just below my elbow was very dry and flakey. Now it is fine, but my hands are very cracked on the palm side with slight dryness on the interior of both wrists. Nothing lotion did not take care of. Not sure if you guys do this or not, but load up on the chapstick before bed--I use carmex Also, when brushing your teeth, try to avoid the toothpaste from getting onto your lips (at least do not get a lot on them) for it dries the hell out of your lips

yeah, I don't believe it's an STD. One doesn't have to worry about STDs if there is no 'S'! lol

it might be fungal infection. i have had the same symptoms for two weeks now and i found somewhere on the web that anti fungal medicine might help.
i have been using clotrimazole and betamethasone cream i got for another symptom a while ago - prescription needed - all day today and its still red but the area is getting smaller. I tried everyting from vasaline to blistex but only this seems to work a little bit.
I look like i have a white ring around my lips, and with the recent suntan I got, really not too flattering...

I'm pretty sure it is not an STD cause I have that problem..it started like 2 weeks ago and I haven't even kissed anyone in the longest. I'm using lipbalm all over my lips and the dry skin around them. It's kinda helping but not completely

I find that I usually get this when the weather changes. Have no idea what it is and it takes quite some time to go away. =/

I also have a LOT of redness and dryness around my lips and the corners of my mouth. I look like I've been drinking Kool-Aid. I have tried everything and am *thinking* that it is simple dehyrdation. I can't stand drinking water but have been forcing myself to drink a bunch of water everyday and that seems to be helping. I also use Burt's Bees lip balm, but that isn't really helping. I am going to take the advice above and buy aquafor and Carmex. I really want to know the cause of the dryness however. I am 100% certain that it is NOT an STD (at least not for me). Does anyone think this is simply caused by dehydration in general?

As a follow-up to my previous post...I went to the drugstore and found the "Aquafor" (which is a Eucerin product). Right next to it was the CVS brand of the same thing. The main active ingredient is White Petrolatum (41%), which is the same exact thing as Vaseline (brand) petroleum jelly (100%). I bought the CVS brand ointment (called "Advanced Healing Ointment"), and it does seem to help. I also bought the Palmer Cocoa Butter Formula (as recommended above), but it doesn't seem to last as long for protection as the CVS ointment. The only reason I didn't buy straight Vaseline 100% petroleum jelly is because the CVS ointment also has glycerin and mineral oil (and some alcohol)in it. By the way, Chapstick and Carmex have the same EXACT ingredent (white petrolatum), so if you have these things, they should work too. I like the ointment because I can put a ton of it on my lips at once. I also think my theory about "dehyrdration" has some legitimacy. Since I've been drinking more water, the symtptoms have almost gone away. I don't think the CVS ointment actually "healed" them, but it did help them to recover. By the way, coffee (or other caffeine drinks) and alcohol will add to dehydration. I hope this helps!
