I am a 32 y/o female and have been taking Accutane for 3 months. I am still breaking out. I used to get big cyst like pimples and my break out seem to be smaller but just curious when my face will start to clear. Seems like most people have seen results by month 3. Is anyone having the same problem. Please tell me all this hell is worth it in the end. Thanks

Some people don't see dramatic results unitl the end of the treatment so best advice is too wait it out. I've been on accutane for 3 months and 3 weeks and its getting a lot better. My initial breakout was horrible but it looks like its going uphill.

I've been on for about 3 months and feel the same way you do. I still haven't seen great results, and I get big cysts right under my eyes on my cheek which are frustrating.

Some people just take longer. The only thing we can do is just wait...

Thanks guys for all the info. I feel better knowing that I'm not alone. As of right now my face is pretty clear. Some weeks its looks good and then I'll have another breakout. Guess all I can do is finishing out treatment and hope for the best. Good Luck to everyone.

It can take up to the last day of the treatment, which is the bad part. You're on this miracle drug and expect fast results. But just like everyone else said, hang in there cause it'll be well worth it.

Oh man! It's only been 8 weeks for me but I am ready to just go into a cave and HIDE for the next 3 months! It sucks to read about some people clearing up by the first month. I had such high hopes... It's embarrassing because my face was never this bad before. Just enough to suck! People probably wonder why my face all of a sudden looks like a flaky war zone (graphic...sorry). Ah well. Hopefully pretty soon they'll be wondering how it looks so good!

Same story here. I had the worst acne ever in months 2-3, and moderate to little acne in months 4-5. In the sixth month I practically had no more new zits popping up. I used to have pretty bad acne, I mean like 3-5 new zits a day wasn't unusual for someone like me. Since I finished my course on Oct. 1st, my skin is healing pretty rapidly.

More advice, try not to pop acne especially when on accutane!

Ive been on accutane before, and i feel like it worked so much better back in the day. I started to get pimples really bad beginning of my first college semester and I started up on it again the end of december, my face still continues to break out and its annoying because it worked SO good the first time. But it will work eventually, I guess.

I just started month three at 60mg per day. I am still breaking out on cheeks and chin, and when i'm not, I can't get rid of the d*mn red marks. Is this going to get better? HELP! Also, can I spot treat at all on this? I am just impatient and it's hard to not put anything on when i see a pimple coming.

What's weird about my problem is that from day 1, I had no more cysts in the problem areas which are where I shave (throat and back of my neck.)

I've been on it for 4 months and then last week a large cyst on my left throat which rapidly dried up. And then this week, a large cyst on my right throat.

Why would the problem seem to be gone completely from the beginning and then start this crap again?
Anyone have this experience too?

Don't worry about it, it will get better and you will be totally amazed with the performance of your skin. I was on accutane for 6 months and it didn't clear up till the end of the 5th month. It was total hell but trust me it is worth it. Here I am a year later and its starting to come back unfortunately...

That's what I mean, I was indeed amazed from the beginning but to have zero problems for 4 1/2 months and then start to have problems is weird.

Is your problem coming back full blown again? Or just a little? I've read of some people just having an occasional breakout after finishing Accutane but nothing like they had once experienced.
Also, what kind of problem did you have? Cystic?

I had cysts, about one every two weeks on the lower throat and back of neck.

It's dangerous to be on this med without dr's guidance. My son has been on it for 5 weeks and he is being monitored monthly with blood tests. His cholesterol went up 20 points this month and the dr said it might due to Accutane intake. Please see your doctor, it might be expensive, but will prevent futures illnesses.
