Anyone on the forum that is part of the older crowd--I'm over 50 and going on Accutane--I would keep getting recurring small cysts this past year and then one really large one that grew and grew--then derm told me to go on Accutane--been on 3 weeks and my face is on fire and a mess--only on 20mg a day plus now an antibiotic...this stuff clears in one place, moved next door, recurs and then it leaves red marks...now where my face is clear it's really clear but more and more cyst like things are forms...luckily I am a teacher and am off this summer so am hibernating...but I have to go back to school in a month and what would my students say? Any suggestions for the older crowd in all of this?

Have another question for all of you who are so much more knowledgable than I am about this "stuff"--I keep putting ice on my "places" on my face--feels better but does it do anything--I've read about cold therapy speeds healing; anyone know? Thanks!

Hi Nellie,

I am only 21 but I have been on accutane. I am finished the treatment now, but when I first started it was horrible. I broke out constantly! I had huge cystic like acne breaking out....large red spots, pimples, you name it. Don't worry, it will go away. It took about 2-3 months of treatment before mine really started clearing up though, so I can't guarantee you it will be completely gone for September. It's just something you have to live with and deal with. Just keep in mind that it does get better, a lot better. Best of luck!

Thanks Sarah...I and yes I have cystic like places in three spots and it's pretty horrible..some very painful and some just keep crusting over and then coming back...and then it seems to move--is this normal? Thanks for the response--even me, at my age--needs encouragement with this :)

Nellie-

It will get worse before it gets better. That's normal. The first time I used it, I complained to my doctor b/c my face got much, much worse during the first month of treatment. I started seeing improvement in about 6-8 weeks. Hang in there, it will get better. I'm 34 and I know it's difficult this is no matter how old you are.

Thanks Calvin--It HAS to get better--my problem is that I think it's getting better and then when I wake up the next day or even from the morning to the afternoon it shifts dramatically...it just seems when/if one place gets healed up it either breaks out again or a place right next to it...so do you really like the results?

I know what it feels like. I am approaching 50 and going through this totally unexpected midlife crisis hormonal changes. I am also a teacher. I had a severe acne problem in my 20s and the problem continued until late 30s. Although it left bunch of scars, I did not have any breakout until last month. It all stared again this month. That was shortly after I noticed that my chest and neck became excessively oily. I am on accutane and it's been about three weeks. I still have big cysts here or there. As you siad it strated on one side of my face and then moved onto the other side. But I believe it could be worse without accutane. I am currently taking 40mg a day. I hope both you and I get some positive results before back-to-school. I am going to tell my students upfront that I am going through another puberty!

Guys, I bought accutane from http://isotretinoin.co.uk . I've been on accutane for about a month and half now. I also broke out really badly during like the first two weeks. But after that it reduces significantly and it'll be ok. Dryness around the mouth also happenes to me and it's peeling like crazy. Lips, nose also get severely dry, i just use some moisturiser. Drink a lot of water.

Daily Horoscope for December 26

Pisces

Mercury's retro phase in Capricorn will raise questions in your mind about a friend or loved one during the next two weeks. You might wonder what they're playing at and have to ask them to be straight with you, or you could work hard at overcoming the current problems between you so you're able to enter a much more positive phase in your relationship.
