oh my goodness, I had roaccutane 10 years ago and the last 2 years I have had joint pain, but its not arthritis, says the doctor. Thinking that the pain reminded me of the same discomfort I felt when I was on roaccutane, I looked up roaccutane side effects on the computer, and lo and behold, here are all of you with all of my unanswered questions answered even before I ask them. I can only guess that my symptons have returned as a result of menopause. I am so sore everywhere, and sleep is a thing of the past.

Just ran across this conversation, and can't believe it. I am fighting pain a good 15 years post accutane, and am wondering now if accutane is the cause, as doctors can find nothing except degenerative discs, which everyone has, right? Lower back, knees, elbows, wrists, shoulders, neck, feet...I got the whole package of pain! Joint and muscle both. I took calcium during my accutane 6 months to deal with lower back pain, but will look in to ideas given here.

This is scary to read. I've been off for 3 months, and I'm still having joint pain in my hips. It isn't as severe as it was when I was on Accutane, but it's definitely still there. Blah.

Hey Silverado,

If i were to take hylauronic acid supplements to help my joints, would my skin become very oily and acne prone again? or is this a totally different mechanism, i know it keeps skin dry, but it hasnt got anything to do with sebum and oil production does it?

cheers

Will,

No, Has nothing to do with oil. It binds and retains fluid in joints and skin. Accutane shuts off hyalauronic acid production.

Non sodium hyalauronic acid is available from Wellness resources.com . That is the type I prefer to use myself.

More is not better. Drink adequate water as this will bind with the molecule and restore the fluid membrane between joints.

Currently I have no more joint problems. Could also be due to the fact that I avoid heat damaged proteins and also use Wobenzyme, an enzyme that breaks down protiens. I take about 8-10 wobenzyme a day.

Proteins that arent completely broken down because they are deformed by the effects of heating,(Meat, eggs, milk)/(broiling, barbecueing, baking, microwaving), attack joints in an autoimmune reaction as well as cause DNA to malfunction,(cancer).

See ya,

D

My Son also has had to quit his job due to severe back pain so severe I have had to call my husband home to get him out of bed. We are still in the testing stages and it has taken weeks and so far the Doctor's have no answers but from doing my own research I think the acutane may be the reason why. I never thought of looking in this direction until advised by someone else but his Doctor has never mentioned it. My Son always wanted to try acutane but I could never sign for it so when he turned of age he signed for himself but boy how I wish I had talked him out of it. He can't work, he can't go to School he is suffering, I guess this generation of teens are now going to be known as the guinea pigs and they will write about it, how sad!

Hello silverado,
I exactly understand what you are going though 'cause I have been suffering from long term latent side effects for almost 4 years...cannot beliece that it has been that long...I thought I would get much better but that was not the case for me..I am trying to be hopeful but it gets harder when I am so sick that I cannot even do simple normal things like sitting down and work...so depressing... I feel useless, worthless sometimes..I try not to feel like this but I acnnot control these feelings.
My worst problems is insomnia, joint pain especially mu lower back...I never had any joint pain before accutane..I could not understand when some people complain about low back pain or insomnia...I never imagained in a million years that I would suffer from these crippling conditions for years....
I can't believe I was never told of any of these symptoms from my Doctor but my Son has the exact same lower back pain. He can't work, he can't got to School and he is so depressed. Want to know what the good friggin thing is? He has great skin, was it worth it? Not!!!!!!!!!!

to Dan from Switzerland.. I am in a similar situation as you. i took a low dose for a while until I couldn't take it anymore and then i discovered my problem was food allergies. try eating nothing but one food.. like rice, and add in some protein. See if your skin clears. Then try adding in one food at a time, wait 48 hours, then add another food. If you breakout, stop that last food, wait until clear, then keep trying. My guess.. you will be clear until you eat something with one of the following:

-PRESERVATIVES!- 7% of people are allergic to these.. BHA, BHT, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate.. all the sh*t they put in foods.
-Peanut
-Soy
-WHEAT - a lot of ppl are allergic to this
-Milk

Do a search on food allergies. I've had clear skin ever since I figured this out. Hope this helps. It changed my life.

I'm in daily agony with severe chronic widespread joint pain over a year after I stopped tane. It's the worst thing ever and I am suicidal nearly every day. I have tried HA and the usual joint supplments to no avail, I don't know what else to do.....

I have only been on accutane for 6 weeks and my entire body hurts. At first I though it was just from daily physical movements, and then after I saw my Dr. at my first follow up, did I realize that my accutane had taken over my joints. I know that differnt reactions for everyone, but the joint pain seems to be universal. All of this in the pain of adult acne. GGGRRR

We had same problem with our daughter and just found out that she is celiac which can have this as a side effect. We will be going gluten free and hopefully these pains will go away.

I looked on line and saw that many accutane takers are experiencing the same as I am. I was worried that I had something really wrong with me but I can see now that I am just suffering the side effects. My skin is much improved but my feet, joints, back and neck make me feel like an old woman. I hobble around. I am wishing everyone on this drug the best of success. I am still weighing the pros/cons as I feel horrible.
