my spine is sore
my muscles ache
joint pain

esp. when i bend or lay down...it absolutely sucks! HOWEVER, everyone is commenting on my skin and how amazing it looks after just 51 days...so i will mitigate the side effects!:)

I TOOK ACCUTANE ABOUT 8 YEARS AGO. IT IS A VERY DANGEROUS MEDICINE THAT I WOULDN'T GIVE TO MY WORST ENEMY. I WAS AN EXTREMELY HEALTHY ATHLETIC PERSON BEFORE TAKING IT. AFTER TAKING IT I HAVE HAD IRRITABLE BOWL SYNDROM, CHRONIC FATIQUE, VERY PAINFUL JOINT PAIN, HEADACHES, DRY EYES, IMMUNE SYSTEM PROBLEMS, AND I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH FIBROMYALGIA. IT IS SICK TO THINK THE MEDICAL COMMUNITY WOULD SELL SUCH A TOXIC MEDICINE TO YOUNG ADULTS WITH SO MANY RISKS. IT HELPED TO RUIN MY FIRST MARRIAGE BECAUSE I WAS ALWAYS TOO SICK OR TIRED TO DO ANYTHING. PLEASE CONSIDER CAREFULLY BEFORE TAKING IT! I THOUGHT SINCE I WAS SO HEALTHY I WOULDN'T BE THE ONE TO HAVE SUCH AWFUL SIDE EFFECTS.

Our sixteen year old son, involved in sports, started experiencing joint pain;only in the knees. Unfortunately, we did not think of the Accutane until five weeks later, due to the fact that he contracting a virus around the same time he started to complain about the joint pain. His dose was increased and the pain got worse. After spending a morning at two different doctors, running tests and x-rays, we went home clueless. I went on the Internet and discovered the connection. My husband, son and I were shocked. Needless to say he has stopped taking the RX and we hope he will recover 100%.

I was on Accutane in 1999 and since then I am suffering with joint stiffness and achy muscles (especially in the morning). My vision has suffered especially at night. I am tired all of the time. I am wondering if I need to be taking a vitamin A supplement. If any physician would like to comment on that, please do.

I took Accutane in 2001 for about 3 months. Now i have joint issues. Mostly knee and wrists, that is all I have noticed so far. Doing push ups has become harder along with getting up from any kneeling position. I am gonna go to the doctor soon to see if they can find anything... Not gonna hold my breath.

I am 26 and I took Roaccutan (isotretinoin) for about 6 years including breaks. I did about three normal high dose treatments but the acne always came back after 1 month. So I tried a low dose treatment (10mg every second day). This worked almost as good as the high dose treatment but I had less dry skin and eyes. Besides the dryness I didn't have any side effects and I was quite happy about the result. In January 2007 (about 5 years after I took isotretinoin the first time, and after about 2 years of low dose treatment) I had some pain in my wrist-joints when i worked at the computer (i study informatics so I use the computer a lot). The pain appeared only occasionally. Because I didn' pay a lot of attention to it, the pain got worse. In July 2007 I had to quit an internship as a programmer because the pain got so strong and I feel it now from my wrists to the shoulder. Until today (April 12th 2008) it didn't get any better although I took a long break from the computer and tried several anti-inflamatory pills. I finally stopped taking isotretinoine in December 2007 because I thought maybe isotretinoine is the cause for my pain. After reading the posts on this page, I could kick myself for not stopping taking it earlier! Now I am "clean" for about 4 months, but my pain situation didn't improve. I guess it takes longer until my body heals because I took this s*** for such a long time (I am still optimistic to lose the pain!). My skin doesn't look very good because the acne came back (not as bad as before), but now I am old enough to live with it and I hope as time goes by it will get better by itself (I heard isotretinoine can slown down the natural evolution of the skin, so if I took it for about 6 years my skin is still a teenager although I am 26). I have visited at least 4 different doctors including a rheumatologist because of my pain but noone could tell me what I have. I don't have carpal tunnel syndrome. One doctor told me I maybe have fibromyalgie but he's not sure. Well... what do I want to say with this post? I am interested if there is someone who has similar symptoms? And I want to warn everybody of taking isotretinoine. My skindoctors all said that isotretinoine is not that bad. I believed them because I only had dry skin as a side effect... at the beginning.

What I forgot to say: I also did a lot of sport (fencing) before the pain started. Now I am trying to do a lot of sport again to lose the pain. I am tired of just waiting and sitting around.

Ive been on accutane for 4 and 1/2 months now and am taking 40mg twice a day. I have always been very athletic and lift weights everyday. Since the 3rd week or so, everytime I arch my back to stretch my chest I have pain in the middle of my chest. Only other side effects are dry lips, only had one nose bleed, and have expirienced some un-natural mood swings. I have some nodular acne that has improved dramatically, no other treatments worked until accutane.

I have been on Accutane for about one and half months. No problems the first month- except woke up a couple times at the end of the first month with cramping back and sides- had to lie down and stretch a minute. Realized had soreness in thumb in one hand. Thought I had jambed (sp?) my thumb. Then a few days into the next month- moved into forefinger and then a few days later to other hand (thumb and some forefinger). Pain in shoulder joints began and pain in chest too. Woke up one day and could barely breathe due to pain in chest/ribs. That pain subsided hours later, but lingered for a couple days. I was on 40 mg in morning and 20 in eve. I dropped back to 1/day for abour a week then stopped taking it for several days. I'm back taking 20 mg / day and only a bit of soreness in one forefinger is there. Will keep posting.(Skin looks good btw).

Here is what to do.

I too have suffered from accutane. Joint damage and skin that went from acne to a new kind of skin problem.......body wide and MUCH worse.
Nummular lichenoid dermatitis. Trust me acne is nothing compared to this. This was never mentioned in the product brochure.

Google: Bill sardi accutane.(please read this)

Then consider biocell 2.(olympian labs)

It is comprised of:

chondroitin sulfate, biocell 2 chicken collagen and hylauronic acid.

Hylauronic acid is a moisture retention molecule that is in our body and is shut off by accutane which is why the synovial fluid in the joints dry up and cartilage grinds against cartilage. Hylauronic acid also retains water from the inside which keeps the skin from becoming dry.
When you age and become wrinkled this is actually loss of hylauronic acid.

Chondroitin alone is not enough, although important, it is the hylauronic acid that must accompany chondroitin along with raw ingredients to rebuild collagen which also plays a role in the synovial membrane.

Still in daily agony one year on. All joints are painful and stiff and I'm only 25. Been tested for everything, all tests come back negative. I am in so much pain. Tried HA, Glucusomine, Chondrotin supplements, as well as fish oils, accupuncture, chiropractory, everything. Nothing works. The pain is ubearable.

I've been using Accutane for a week now and already have knee pain. I've heard about Glucosamina and chondroitin, can I take that while I'm using Accutane??
