I didn't hear anything about hair loss.
Does it seem like it's only a selected few, or is everyone hit with the horrid hair loss? Also, anyone taking Omega 3's? Cause I heard it was a good idea.

thanks.

I took accutane for over 6 months and started noticing hair loss in my 5th month of taking the medication. It cleared up my skin mostly but left me with scars and now it seems like my skin doesn't heal the same way. Its only been a month after treatment and I'm still noticing lots of hair loss on my pillow and in the shower, even running my hand through my hair. I have lost atleast 40% of my hair. My hair was very very thick before, so its not that noticable now, but I'm worried it might keep getting worse. My skin in getting oily again so I'm hoping the drug is wearing off and my hair will grow back. I'll keep the acne I just want my hair back. But I don't blame accutane because I know that hair loss was a possible side effect, and I took the risk knowing that. so i basically traded one thing in for another. Its like a double edged sword. If anyone wants to talk about this further they can e-mail me at tobiasz_w@Hotmail.com

first of all hair falling out from tane has nothing to do with your scalp drying out( mine didn't even get dry), dr's do not know why the hair falls out after accutane, I have seen 6 dr's long story short they don't know why it hasn't stopped and may never stop, it is 2 years now post accutane and still falls out.

I finished my course of accutane 20 months ago. My hair did fall out and I was horrified. My hair got so thin it was almost hard to put in a pony tail. BUT...good news is that it DID grow back. Almost as soon as I stopped taking accutane I got these little spiky hairs that started popping up all over my scalp. It looked silly for about six months but it is now full length and healthy again. They dryness went away with some major conditioner tretment. Of course my hair is not super thick but it never has been, but my hair definitely did reproduce what was lost. Just some encouragement b/c I know how traumatizing acne can be, ACCUTANE WORKS! I tried EVERYTHING on the market b/c I DID NOT want to get on this medication. I heard horror stories about it. So far, I don't have any long term probelms besides dry lips! I still put on Aquaphor lip treatment every night before bed and apply chap stick several times a day. Dry eyes lasted for about a year, putting in drops just at night before bed but now I don't even have to do that. I dare not complain about dry lips though, b/c I'd much rather have dry lips than an ugly acne face. Be patient and always take the pill on a full stomach because it is more absorbed into the body that way (that's what my doc told me). Also taking it the same time everyday is suppose to help too.
To Brooke: I was wondering if you could tell me how long you experienced shedding post accutane. It has been a month since I stopped accutane and I am seeing some new growth, but my hair is still shedding at an alarming rate daily in my hairbrush, around the house etc. I'd so appreciate to hear more...

Thanks very much!

Can I ask how long you were on accutane for? Also did you do bloodwork to rule out thyroid issues, iron deficiency, hormones etc..? How is the overall thickness of your hair now if you continue to expereince shedding?
Thanks,

hey guys,

I've been on accutane for 8 months 40mg twice a daily, my fuckin bad doc never told me about any of this major side effects and I just got to know this by now and after 8 months of stopping the drug, I've suffered from hair loss but I thought it was temporary I called that fuckin shit and he was like this is only caused by stress and Accutane never cause hair dryness, I believed him and continued the drug now it seems that my hair is never like before hair loss continued and my hair is really dry,, I would have never taken this medicine if I'd have know that it would cause this .. but that's it now..so take certain caution if ur concedring taking the drug.

Accutane hairloss is a form of TELOGEN EFFLUVIUM, not Male Pattern Baldness. It is usually a "difuse" thinning of the entire head. Google Telogen Effluvium to get info.

Hi... I am a 29 year old female. If you have not started accutane yet, do NOT take it!! It is a very dangerous drug. After having taken accutane for 3 months, I developed severe joint, bone, tendon, and muscle pain, so I discontinued the drug. About 1 month after taking the accutane, my hair began to shed. From what I have read, you may begin to loose your hair while on it or shortly after you stop taking it. In some individuals this was not a side affect and some have lost up to 95% of their hair and claim it NEVER came back. As for me... I am a year in healing since I took the darn drug. I am relieved to say that my hair eventually stopped shedding. And I THINK it is coming back but it is hard to tell. I have these short whispy hairs all around my hair line. I think they are new hairs but I am not sure. All I can do is keep my hopes up. However, I am STILL dealing with the musculoskelital pain that accutane left me with. That is another horror story in and of itself. DONT TAKE IT. IT IS NOT SAFE. Just because there are people who have taken it who have done well on it, it does not mean that it will not harm YOU specifically. Everyone is different. I would hate to see another individual harmed the way I have been by accutane. Please don't take it.

We have a friend who took acutane for approx 9 mos.when he was 20yrs old. AT 30 yrs old, his mother discovered he would be happy to live until 40 based on how he feels. Tried detox, cleansing, every possible "alternative" with no measureable improvements. All drugs are poison and manage symptons. Stop putting band aid on problems. Bodies don't have a deficiency of tane. He got on glyconutrients (non toxic patented technology) and has his life back. Keeps it on hand so he doesn't run out. glycostory.com/patmos Be careful of side effects when experimenting with pharmacea (tane). Hope this helps

My daughter was on differin for one month and began noticing hair loss. We thought it might be stress at first-college tests, a recent move away from home, but she has done all this before with no hair loss. She read the information on differin and found no reference to hair loss. She is healthy, 24 years old and plays soccer 2-3 times a week, so we thought it must be an allergic reation to her new shampoo. When I talked to her last night I asked her about her hair, and she said, well it is ok, but still losing hair and her scalp was burning. Then I decided to go to google and type in "differin causes hair loss." Scary--we have decided that differin is the problem. She has stopped using differin as of last night and is going to start using power plus shampoo. We had already had her start taking fish oil, and a multivitamin so we will let you know if hair grows back. Hoping it will!!!

ACCUTANE is a serious drug and it affects everyone DIFFERENTLY. For some people hairloss may be temporary or permanent. It all depends on the PERSON. In the little booklet they give you at the doctor's office in it, it DOES say Accutane MAY cause hair loss/thinning but it does NOT say if it is temporary or permanent, unless your doctor has said so and that's up to you if you believe/trust them or not. If your really suffering from acne and are willing to deal with hairloss, take it. Just make sure you get a good moisturizing shampoo, conditioner, AND deep-conditioner treatment like *NIOXIN* and take some VITAMIN E, and LOOTS of it. Eat healthy, drinks LOTS of water, and when you shower, wash your hair in luke WARM water (to keep the cuticle closed and to prevent further damage) every OTHER day if not longer because your hair will be so dried out. Best of luck. :)

I'm now in my 6th month post accutane and I've lost 70% of my hair and it is still falling. I've had to cut all my hair off and the only thing I can do is put it up as it looks so thin and straggly. It has become very depressing. I had all my bloodwork done and everything was normal. I've been taking iron tablets and eating more protein in my diet. I've also been exercising and drinking loads of water. Still no change not even the shedding has really slowed down. I can only hope that with a bit more time my hair will finally stop falling. It really is such a horrible thing and if I had known I would have never taken the drug.

I would so appreciate anyone's SUCCESS stories of getting their hair back after accutane regardless of how long it took.

Thanks very much and best of luck to everyone.

Well I guess if your ance isn't that bad to begin with then you can stop the accutane treatment. But for people like me and many others who have suffered for years with little to no hope of clear skin thinning of the hair is a small price to pay for a long term ance free face. There are many products to help with hair loss but not that many for ance that seems to give you long term results. Just my opinion....

Daily Horoscope for November 7

Aries

It's a fortunate day for the Ram, but some of you may feel pulled apart by the pressures of home, family and career. It's time to take it easy, if family togetherness has worn you out. On the other hand, the romantic and financial energies are strong, so single Rams who are on the prowl should do very nicely thankyou.
